Sensor: My Favorite Legionnaire




I'm annoyed at Geoff Johns. Because I want to enjoy Legion of Three Worlds, and I'm trying, but every time I turn a page I'm worried I'll see a character I like getting killed. Because this is a story in which there are a lot of characters that I suspect he sees as redundant canon fodder, because they're alternate reality versions of characters HE likes, and Geoff's got a habit of killing off characters he doesn't think are important so that we know the story is serious business. So I can't enjoy Legion of Three Worlds. Because I'm terrified he's going to kill my favorite Legion character.

Running into this page while googling made me decide to repost my Sensor stuff to the new site


Here's the horrific and wrongheaded redesign she got, that just seems to scream "canon fodder" to me. It's exactly the sort of design Johns would consider proof of an expendable character, I just know it. Especially since there are two alternate reality versions of the character that look like normal humans, and the original Silver Age version of the character looks like a normal human, and Johns will always show preference for the Silver Age characters...



But no matter what I guess there's the good old days.

how 'bout if he just kills her stupid name? Which was made up originally to be vague and generic, when she was incognito. "Projectra" is just fine.

Not really, as I've always said, if your power is to create insubstantial illusions, the LAST thing you ever do is tell people that's what your power is. Sensor implies a different set of powers (eg enhanced sense etc) but isn't TOO misleading once you know the facts.

Also keeping my fingers crossed that Her Apeshit Crazy Royal Highness Princess Wilimena Morgana Daergina Annaxandra Projectra Velorya Vauxhall stays alive as well. They never did resolve her story arc before ending the Threeboot LSH.

True. There was a time when you may have suspected the writers were doing these things to make you scream, and they very well may have been, but what difference did it used to make? A hate letter here, some anthrax there, but nothing a writer couldn't dodge. But now? They can hear you scream. They can print it out, and look at it for hours. To them, it's like chocolate cake.

But then, comics writers are lizards. Well, DC ones. Marvel ones are actually baboons.

She was likely doomed already. Legion of Three Worlds is just another Geoff Johns EVERYTHING MUST BE AS IT WAS WHERE I WAS TWELVE project, which means that all the reboot and threeboot characters are doomed. If they are *very* lucky some might survive to get locked into some other part of the multiverse, but they will be gone from the regular DC universe as long as Johns has anything to say about it.

Adorable. She is adorable! The redesign is not adorable at all, but the old version IS.

..Are those pages from a trade? Several trades? If I were to be looking to pick them up..?

I'm hoping this "Legion of Three Worlds" thing will make DC rectify that situation. I'm missing quite a few bits and pieces of this run myself.

I want you to know that I never gave a crap about Legion in my life - thought the whole thing was dumb and overcomplex and too damn full of dozens of completely interchangeable shmucks - until you made the original version of this post on the old S_D, and now I am in love with the post-ZH reboot, and it is all your fault.

(Well, and Jeka's. And those little raccoons. As if snake people needed to be any more awesome.)

You just know the secondary purpose of those raccoon-people is as an emergency food source.

Hey, what if they aren't true raccoons, but tanuki? Maybe one of them can join the LSH as "Hardballs." Or, if you wanna use classic Legion nomenclature, "Testicular Lad."

I pretty much liked XS already, from her brief sojourns through IMPULSE. The characters I didn't expect to like so much who I ended up loving were Lyle, Chuck, Tenzil and Gates. (And while I didn't particularly attach to Karate Kid, I didn't *hate* him either, which... I know it's not fair to judge a character by COUNTDOWN, but let's just say I was not expecting that.)

Well, at least Lyle's probably safe. -.-

Sensor was one of the constant delights of the ZH Legion, little things like her remembering to add footstep sounds in her human disguise. The lunch with Cham, her entire outlook on life... Just enormous fun.

Non-humanoid Legionnaires being a matter of course was long overdue (Tellus and Quislet aside, the old Legion was very bad for that). Sensor and Gates were always enjoyable.

And a special "Squee!" for Lyle's reaction to her true form being, not revulsion or shock, but "Wow! You're GORGEOUS!"

I have never once warmed to what DNA did to the Legion (and have whined at some length in the past), but what they did to Sensor was a lowpoint, even for them.

Sensor is awesome. I liked this a lot about Legion, they would occasionally explore weird relations (Erin Shvaugn and Element Lad anyone?)

I have to ask, who is the Ice Man looking character?

Jan Arrah, Alchemist, formerly known as Element Lad. Thanks to Mordru reflecting his transmutation powers back on him, Jan's body transmuted too, but he remained alive. From then on he spent a lot of time altering the composition of his body in order to find out what different states of being were like. Another great character, crapped on from an enormous height by DNA in "Legion Lost"

Oh my god, that is gorgeous! I love snakes! I always felt wierd whenever they get associated with bad guys.
