Harley Quinn vs. Batman
Continuing posts in anticipation for Gotham City Sirens. Here's a scene from Harley Quinn #12 which climaxes Kesel's first arc.
Kenny Two-Bear had henched for just about all the main colorful freaks in Gotham. His brother, Nixon, was a veteran of Intergang, but was new in town. They both started working for Harley, but Nix just never quite got how things worked in that city. Kenny was always warning him that things are different, there, that there are things you can do other places, but that you just don't do in Gotham if you want to survive.
Nix didn't listen, and decided to break one of those rules, namely betraying his colorful psychotic boss. Kenny doesn't like the idea, knowing the consequences, but goes along because Nix is his brother.
Meanwhile, Batman, who's been investigating for several issues (And he's especially mad about the destruction of Wayne Manor in an earlier issue, though that totally wasn't really Harley's fault) is closing in...
Need proof that Nix wasn't the master criminal he thought he was? Really, when Harley Quinn has disarmed you, done something to your gun, then tossed it back to you...
The "galoot with no sense of humor" goes in and attacks the gang, figuring Nix's death will work in his favor when it comes to his brother, Kenny. As always, where Harley's concerned, it doesn't work out like he's planned.
Like her boys will be boys attitude towards the fighting. :) The DCU Harley is a slight metahuman, a little enhanced in strength, speed, reactions, and agility, mainly just enough to where she can fight Batman, if you're wondering how she's able to throw him around, like that.
And, Bruce really should have watched his tone of voice around her. I like it when her psych skills are used, and Kesel had her use them in a variety of ways. One little slip of the tongue from Tim gave Harley Batgirl's name, and she used that knowledge to throw Cass off her game just long enough... Simply observing Bruce Wayne at a party, earlier, the intensity he was hiding under his society cover, had already gotten her comparing Bruce Wayne to Batman. A scene during Lieberman's run said, without saying it flat out, that she'd connected the dots, by having her refer to things about Batman that she shouldn't, in theory, know.
Really, by this point, how many of his main adversaries don't know Bruce is Batman?
Anyway, Oracle sends Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl in, but Harley gets away, thanks to a pre-planned escape (She'd already figured the Bat Family would close in, that night) with Ivy, after she did what she mainly wanted to do, that night, play matchmaker for a couple of the detectives investigating her.
One of the things that makes her a great opponent for Batman is all that careful prep that's his calling card doesn't really work completely with her. Being the Trickster she is, she throws monkey wrenches into the best laid plans. If it's at all possible for her to turn a situation to her advantage, she can, and will, improvise. Batman also has a disadvantage in figuring out what she's after at any given time. She's genuinely unpredictable.
