You Are Cordially Invited (To See Robin In A Wedding Dress)
Reposting this from the old S_D

2 scans from Batman #46

Robin and Batman...

Undercover as a Bride and Groom.

That is a pretty doity trick.

(By far my favorite comment on this from the old comm came from shadowvalkyrie who said:

Seriously, this amuses me to no end. I can't believe they didn't do that on purpose. There was a round table in some dingy 1940s office room where a bunch of cracked up guys went, "Marriage!" "Gay marriage!" "White goo splattering everywhere!" )

I approve of this post.

Now Robin don't pretend you don't like the dress. We know you spent days deciding on the right one and having Alfred help you witht the fitting until he was ready to stab you with the pins. Except Alfred wouldn't do that because he's a gentleman.

Amidst the general lunacy, I somehow focus on Batman wearing a mask only large enough to cover the half face covered by the cowl, it's logical, but looks... weird... and compared to the surrounding story, that's really saying something.

True! Although at another glance, it kinda looks like Batman swinging a severed head wearing a surgical mask, which is a... bonus?

I never even noticed that. (I guess the hair covered his ears?) I guess Robin's wearing a mask that covers his domino? A shame, Dick would look so pretty made-up.

What threw me is that to me it looked like he had ripped off someone's head and was just hanging onto it.

I thought it was a head, too!

Shades of Raising Arizona and that one guy talking to H.I. at his job.

*chants: "it's only subtext when it's subtle, it's only subtext--"*

Yay for Dick working out his frustration anger out on innocent criminals!

Jimmy must be rich, with Bruce renting all his women clothes from him and poor dick with batman always teasing him.

That's not bad poetry, actually - I mean, it's far from GREAT poetry, but there are some nice rhymes in there. Rhyming 'typhoons reckless' with 'necklace' is pretty inspired.
While the Joker did get terribly overused during his early years, the sheer amount of stories that he was in means that even in the ones that have nothing whatsoever to do with his modus operandi, he still came up with some pretty cool tricks. Fake bells full of soap chips that expand into a foam of bubbles with the squir of a seltzer bottle? That's friggin' ingenious.
