*facepalm* They unzipped Catwoman’s suit again.
A new trailer for Batman: Arkham Asylum has come out showing what Harley Quinn will look like. And, uh, apparently Harleen shops at Hot Topic. Who knew?

He's holding his champagne with his tail because he is a classy gent, sirrah.

Oh, sweet merciful Spaghetti Monster. It's even worse hearing Harley's actual voice coming out of that trainwreck of a character render.

And EIDOS, DUDES! QUIT IT WITH THE MOCAP! How does the industry still not understand how jerky and fake and right in the middle of the Uncanny Valley 90% of mocap comes out? Plus, Harley; no physical actor short of maybe Andy Serkis is going to be able to act in a way that works for her - you can see it right here in the preview, the quality and emotion of the voice acting is totally out of sync with the utter lack of wild, bendy, flippy exuberance in the character motion.

Your dead on right about the mocap/voice stuff but what's wrong with the character render? The graphics are pretty damn good if you ask me, no where near train wreck.

The character design is garishly awful, but in the first scene at least the little nuances to her movements evoked Harley to as reasonable degree as you're gonna get in a VG.

Personally, I don't understand how anyone could not look at Harley's original costume and not immediately comprehend how completely perfect it is in every way... including its sex appeal.

Anyone else read "BAMF" as "badass mothafucka" and not the little sound he makes when he teleports?

...Cause badass mothafucka totally works too. :D

I was too suffused with phallic imagery to wonder about acronyms. Because that doll is right in front of his crotch and it's literally a "Lil Nightcrawler".

When I first saw the BAMF page on TVTropes, my immediate thought was, "Well, Kurt's trademark noise is cool, but does it deserve an entire page to itself?"

All of the character designs for Arkham Asylum bother me. It's like they're trying for the shitty realism of Nolan's films (the Joker's face seemingly being scarred, Harley wearing actual clothes rather than a costume), but feeling like they have to include some nods to the books and TV shows, and to me, it just doesn't work.

The game's version of Bane is particularly awful. It's a cross between the Batman and Robin movie version, and an apparently idiotic, never before see thug version of the character, which is nothing like the books.

So I'm not holding out too much hope on this.

I don't mind Harley's design even if it was crazy sexed up. It fits the games style pretty well and video games are the pinnacle "tits sell" form of non-porn media so I'm not surprised that they went with that.

I'm disappointed at Bane's treatment though. 'Batman and Robin' should be 'the don't do this bible' for Batman adaptations.

Still dying to play this though. The collectors edition comes with a life size metal Batarang replica. That's just sweet.

I don't mind it. I'd prefer something a bit closer to her original uniform, but hey, it fits into the whole psychotic, Silent Hill visual treatment that is going on. In fact, she's working off of the paradigm of the Silent Hill nurse - a stereotypical sexy outfit on a rather disturbing image. Silent Hill nurses always fuck with me - they're using sexy bodies with decapitated/fucked up bodies? Weird signals all over the board.

Also, there's nothing wrong with going with a Nolan-ish design. It makes sense. What has been a major blockbuster? Nolan films. Why NOT introduce that kind of gritty design philosophy? In that way you are appealing to an audience beyond the gamers/comics fan audience. Perfectly reasonable from a design and marketing point of view.

I didn't realise until I saw Harley, but I had been hating basically every character design made so far. Bane is scrawny until he Venom pumps and then has what appears to be a jet pack and with wide tubes coming from it. Gordon looks like he belongs in wrestling. Batman has gauntlets ridiculously thick. Joker has got a half scarred face. And now this. This....abomination of what is meant to be Harley Quinn. Seriously, the game developer was bragging about how they developed new "jiggle physics" just for her in the game for goodness sake.

It all seems like a poorly executed attempt to meet in the middle between the comics and Nolan's awfully bland character designs. And the end result so far is not pretty.

Oh well, atleast Paul Dini is writing the script, so the story will probably be good.

I would seriously play this game with my eyes shut, just so I can focus on his voice.

Her stats say she's 5'7" and 140 lbs. Yay for a semi-reasonable weight! (Although at that height she probably wasn't winning any gymnastic scholarships.)

They tried to create a "realistic" looking character...with comic book proportions...

Seriously, the corset is in the wrong place to be creating that effect with her waist.

Obviously no one in scans_daily has ever heard of Gothic Lolita. The comment thread is funny though. Seeing people who adore unrealistic painted on spandex suits with disfunctional capes talk about fashion and costume design.

See this isn't Nolan-ish to me at all. Because it's fake, 'look at me I'm ~edgy~, goffick and gory and did I say EDGY!' 'realism'.

Psssshh. Woe! D: Conroy, you deserve better.

Eidos seems to be missing the point that Harley's costume-identity is derived from Italian comedia del'arte. Her standard outfit and her name are tied together.

As it is, she looks more like a badly-done goth take on Columbine.

Not to mention that her usual duds are -- to put it mildly -- a lot more suitable to her acrobatic/gymnastic talents than a corset and skirt.
