What would an internet-wide webcomic crossover event look like?

From Least I Could Do.

Love the line at the bottom: "If you read ONE webcomic this year, I have a bicycle!" (Although technically that looks like a tricycle, but whatever. =) )

It took me a second to figure out what the floating sphere to the left was, then I realized it was the head of the stick-figure from xkcd.

I suspect strongly that this was done out of extreme insanity at NEWW last weekend.

Nope. All of that was done by the guy who does LICD. His style is apparent in all of 'em.

Yeah, I'd be more interested in this if I recognized more of these characters.

The only two guys from webcomics I read regularly are Richard from LFG and THAC0 from Goblins.

I mean wheres the representation from Sluggy Freelance or Order of the Stick or Gunnerkrigg court? Hell, I'd do with some Dominic Deegan or Dresden Codak.

Pete doesn't read other webcomics, which is why it's extremely rare to see his involvement with anything, and Gunnerkrigg is being published by Dark Horse (and in England, so I don't think they were at the event) so they're not going to really want to put that in their daily comic. Dresden is on semi-hiatus as he works on his TV pilot. And Dominic Deegan's too involved with the Gary Stu to share the limelight with someone else...

Actually, I'm surprised they got PVP and Penny Arcade to chip into this.

I used to absolutely adore SP way back when, but I feel like it lost most of it's razor sharp wit about 3 or 4 years back.
That, or I'm just getting old and grumpy.
Either way, R.K. Milholland's current stuff does nothing for me.

Surely I can't be the only one thinking/hoping that Faye would give Ryan's lecherous asshole author-avatar the kick in the crotch he deserves many times over.

(And then Aubrey and PeeJee would come along while he's doubled over, and the next few panels are blacked out.)

I'd settle for a crossover between Penny Arcade and Looking for Group, simply because I'd love to see Richard and Tycho and Gabe interacting.

Really, if you only read one webcomic let it be Vampirates.

Canadian.
Vampire.
Pirates.

I really, really liked Vamirates but then.. it got needlessly yaoi-ish? It's getting better again now that it's going closer to plot driven stuff. XD

But no, seriously, I just don't think of Hassan as angsty. I'm a tad behind on it, but Hassan? Angsty?

[info]parsimonia

I don't know, I don't know who Hassan is or what he's like.

But really, I was just kind of voicing my surprise at people's reactions to this post in general. I'm not a big fan of Least I Could Do, and the only webcomic references I got from it was XKCD and Something Positive (in fact, I only found it because I follow Randy Milholland on Twitter and he linked to it).

But I saw it, and thought it was a funny/weird way of making fun of Marvel/DC crossover events, the peeing dude aside. So the fact that it is so divisive was surprising and kind of fun.

Whew! For a moment there I thought that was a promo spot for an actual crossover. But it's just a gag.

Webcomic crossovers are like those general "website awards" everyone used to give each other twelve years ago. That is, they were all the rage once but crossovers quickly played themselves out and pretty much no webcartoonists do them anymore. At most one might see the odd background cameo of someone else's character(s) in a single strip, but even those are getting less frequent. Particularly for those webcomics that have moved from gag-a-day to ongoing storylines with a large cast and backstory, having characters from other webcomics pop in, even in the background, just doesn't seem plausible.

Response:
2 parts "ew!"
1 part "I stopped reading most of these due to lack of funny some time back"
1 part "Shouldn't Scott Kurtz be huffing or something about this by now?"
