Gorshin-inspired Riddler's been a joke, but in the best cases with the self-awareness to make him funny... For all your badmouthing Dini, he's one of the first to give the Riddler style, wearing a business suit and being a charming loser-type, and most of his characterization was balanced on that. ...Of course there was ...Winnick's? take on the Riddler as a murderous metrosexual... but I don't think anyone likes that. His entire gig was 'He leaves clues behind to his crimes, Batman figures them out with often times minimal effort, Riddler get caught and goes to Arkham' That's. It. That was his role for pretty much his entire career, I mean, he even managed to skip over the grim and grittying of the rest of Batman's rogues to the point that he didn't even kill people! At least as a detective, Riddler had a new direction in like the 40 years he's been created. ...Seriously, tell me like three interesting things this Riddler could do that wouldn't be the same old tired schtick he's been doing, with minimal change, since the Silver Age.
