When Matt met Luke: Marvel Knights #11 So, last time I was here I posted some pages from the 2000 series Marvel Knights, a fun little exercise into street level team-building, featuring Daredevil assembling a team to take down the Punisher and for about fifteen issues, taking on various threats of a superpowered kind. The team was originally just Daredevil, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Dagger (from Cloak and Dagger), but the group got an expansion in issue #5 with the inclusion of Moon Knight. The latter thought the team needed some organising (y'know, some actual being a team) and in issue #11, he brought in Luke Cage for some reinforcements.
This is a response to starwolf oakley's recent post, featuring Cage's interaction with DD in the pages of Bendis' Daredevil.
Scans not mine. Written by Chuck Dixon, drawn by Ed Barreto. 7/22.

I don't think this is their first meeting... they had a crossover involving two Russian ex-spies called Boris & Ninotchka
Yeah, I looked it up. All the way back in 1972. Doesn't seem like they interacted much before Bendis brought them together.
I'm thinking of a different story, from the 80's. Still a while back, though.
Not bad at all. This ever get collected or do you have to track down back issues?
Back issues only, I'm pretty sure.
Huh. Doesn't Dagger have some kind of codependency thing with Cloak? I didn't know they could be apart. Yeah, it's good for them, I'm just curious.
Looks interesting.
Their powers got messed with in this series. Dagger got a little Cloak in her.

Heh.
"Little"?
(bonus geek points for the d_ser that catches the reference
Oh Luke :) this is why you rock
I kinda dug the Marvel Knights series. It was fun to see all these street level heroes interacting together. Shame it never really caught on.
putting them in a highrise seems like a mistake to me. They need a place to meet, give them an office. They have a plane, put it at an airfield. Things like that.
This. Though I could do with a little less of Matt's rampant jerkery.

I was just thinking, that's some of the deepest butt-cleavage I've seen on a fully clothed character in comics, period.
That's half her thing.
The other, of course, being nice tits.
Wow, this is really interesting. This is one of the few times I've seen Moon Knight on a team and NOT get sidelined. I like how he's using his fortune to benefit the team. Didn't realize that he and Daredevil didn't get along.
I'm also surprised he's not more pissed off at Daredevil for using his "other" identity - Marc tend to be REALLY picky about that. Not to mention his cavalier attitude to the mercenary past he detests. I wonder what state of mind he was in at this time?
Moon Knight wasn't Charlie Huston's brand of crazy at this point. He was just a superhero and seemed to have resolved his multiple personality problems. As I also recall, he wasn't powered by Khonshu in these days, so he was generally a more happy fellow.
I'll post soon how he joined the team.
Dagger is very glam-rock looking in this. I approve.
Dixon's Daredevil needs a big, steaming mug of STFU here.
Did this group eventually become 'Heroes for Hire', or am I thinking of something else? This is an interesting conflict - is a hero any less of a hero because he takes money for being a hero? Daredevil says 'yes', Cage says 'no'. I say it's debatable.

The Avengers frequently drew salaries, didn't they? Of course, that's slightly different from being paid by the job.
Yeah, you're thinking of a different team, the most recent probably. There was Heroes for Hire series that ran before this, also not a big seller, but there's no connection.
