Mighty #30
From this week's MIGHTY AVENGERS, the further adventures of Pym Beyond the Macroverse.

As we saw in the preview, Pym gets really really really big. So big he runs into Eternity.

And what does Eternity do with Pym?

Dang, talk about mixed messages.

Anyway, I know what you're thinking about this development. So, apparently, does Slott.

And, because we all need our regular dose of FUCKING CREEPY, once Pym gets back:

Dammit, STOP THAT SHIT. STOP THAT RIGHT NOW.

Scientist Supreme? I...I just don't know what to think about this.

So instead I'll focus on Speed over there expressing my views on Hank's current love life.

I am slightly narked that the apparent three greatest scientists in the Marvel Universe, four if we count Doom, are from Earth.

No alien scientists make the cut? I can imagine Thanos being a little cheesed at this assertion.

He takes science to the point of magic?
Well, considering he was a biochemist who someone discovered a serum/pills that allowed you to change size---later rationalized to Pym particles that are the obvious purview of a physicist, not a biochemist...I'd have to agree with that. Especially since those pills/particles allow you to violate the laws of conservation of matter and the cube-square law.
Yep. Either "Scientist Supreme" or "Scientist Ridiculous" come to mind.

My personal canon is that there isn't an actual Scientist Supreme title, but rather that Eternity feels pity for Hank Pym and is lying to make him feel better.

Well in my opinion, the gist is he "chooses" Pym as "the Scientist Supreme" and overcomes Pym's own objections by claiming that Reed is "the explorer" and Stark is "the engineer" (when he isn't lobotomizing himself in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN), but Pym is apparently "the mage" of science, bringing it closer to magic than the others. I suppose that means that while Reed might be smarter, and Stark better at building things, Pym is the one with the artistic imagination (and as many artists are, has some emotional "quirks" to himself; I mean look at Van Gough). Considering many comic book scientists overlap and do whatever the plot desires, I thought this was a good way to single Pym out as distinct without stepping on the toes of the other two. It also ties into past issues of the run, especially the first few when Pym feels lowly compared to Iron Man as well as uses his science against the magic of Chthon.

Also to add to me, Reed embraces science to explore and experience all that the universe has to offer, Tony embraces science to build tangible products for the betterment of his peers, and Hank embraces science simply for the joy of science itself. He's the most purely "scientific" of them, since science isn't just a means to an end for him, even though he may not be as smart as Reed or Tony (although I personally think he's totally smarter than Tony). Yeah, I'm not gonna say that Tony might not have a greater capacity for learning or a higher IQ, but he's stuck to his field while Hank has branched out into all kinds of different sciences and had major breakthroughs in biology (Pym Particles) and robotics (Ultron, a fully sentient artificial intelligence) and now spatial physics (Pym Pockets). Hank's got more scientific knowledge rattling around in his brain than Tony, at least.

Four and a third, because I'm a rulebreaking rebel.

Damn kids! *shakes fist*

I think Slott is overdoing the talking-Hank-up stuff; making him a more respected figure might have been accomplished better by just depicting him as a competent hero. Stories focusing on a characters' flaws to try and move them past them can work, but often they don't, and with Hank it's been tried repeatedly in the past to no lasting effect.

So Hank Pym is in essence the MU equivalent of Doctor Venture. Colour me shocked.

Now all we have to do is dye Herc's hair blonde, get Amadeus to rename his coyote "Hitler", rename Jocasta H.E.L.P.E.R., and find some sort of equivalent of Hank Venture.

I'm going to be one of the few who thinks this is great. I honestly feel it is about time Pym gets some tangible start up instead of being the Moral compass of the MU (As in if he points one way you go the other)

I do like what they're doing with Hank and I'm hoping it will redeem him somewhat. Yes he hit his wife, but many of our Heroes have hit their Sig Others. Hank is the only one completely villainized for it.
