Hmm, they actually interrogate the villains. Nice bit of intelligence that's rare in comics these days.

I also note they are doing it without messing with their sinuses.

I believe he's referring to the "breaking the crook's nose" interrogation technique :)

No, he's talking about Ray Palmer in Cry for Justice.

Heh, Palmer left footprints on the brain. The irony there is staggering.

No, the artist is just really emphasizing the metal shinyness.

I know he's really conservative, but I don't see how that's reflected here...?

No, all of the Hyenas are dead...

The guy at the top is Anubis, a villain created by Sturges in his Blue Beetle run - he was introduced in a 'title match' over the name Hellhound. He and the other guy (now going by Devil Dog) are a team, now. (Though they can't agree on the name - Anubis keeps suggesting long pretentious names, Devil Dog prefers The Dog Pound.)

I have no idea who the guy at the bottom is.

Anubis doing the "puppy dog eyes" look is entirely too precious!

Hyenas are like vampires. You can't get rid of them without an assload of magic and a few specalist hunters.

We have one. Soranik Natu, the Korugarian (Sinestro's homeplanet) Lantern is also a surgeon. She is awesome.

The second scan, the middle panels.... Jackalman and a throw-out from Dogs of War?

And why is Major Force talking instead of blasting someone's head off, let alone trying to stuff someone in a fridge?

So I haven't been impressed so far with Willingham/Sturges, at least according to the scans here, but..

Damn.

They really pulled up their A-game for the Mid-nite surgery. I could FEEL the frustration and obvious love just pouring from the page. At no point does Mid-Nite ever go DRAMATASTIC but it's all there - the almost monomaniacal use of single words, and that line: : "No, the inferior vena cava -- unless your plan is kill him now and save us the trouble.." Just READ it. It's a confident, collected surgeon losing his cool, watching his friend die on the table before him. And then following up his rant with "We're going to do this. suction. Sponge." Like he knows he needs to bring all his best now. He's not saying "WE are going to do this," he's saying "I am going to do this". That going into the routine of saying "Suction. Sponge" is enough to get him into the zone.

Bravo, gentlemen.

So Major Force is an assassin now - huh. That's a bit of a comedown for him. Last I saw of him, he was a government hitman. It's a shame, really - I kinda liked him as the ultimate Scary Guv'mint Sp00k. With shiny metal skin.

He shows up in the Captain Atom backup story in Action this week...as a government hit man, afaict. So editorial's asleep at the wheel, here.
