Logan got the feeling that he was going to be spending a lot of time sparring. Not that it was a bad thing. He had to do something to keep the boredom at bay. As much as Atlantis had to offer in terms of entertainment it paled in comparison to the thrill of a fight. And without a Danger Room to keep him occupied Logan had to rely on others taking him up on his offer to “train”. It was a nice way of letting people beat on one another without anyone getting really hurt in the process.
Though if Logan were honest he sometimes missed bloodshed. It was the killer instinct in him, and it would never go away. He was an animal, and not even a thoroughly domesticated one at that.
He turned when he heard footsteps approaching, and when the woman appeared he gave her a nod in hello.
“You Rose?” Logan couldn’t help but glance at her from head-to-toe. It wasn’t meant to be disrespectful, but any warrior worth their salt always gauged their enemy before battle. And here was a woman, five-seven in height, maybe one-hundred-thirty pounds, coming toward him. This was going to be interesting.
Spending a lot of time in training was part of the field agent job. As agents, they spent several hours a day in training, but even on that kind of schedule, Rose tended to like to spend a lot of her free time in the gym when she could find a willing partner. That was something that definitely wasn’t in short supply here, with over 20 full teams of combat trained field agents. There always seemed to be someone looking for a good fight.
She started sizing up Logan just as she knew he was sizing up her. He was bigger than she was, possibly stronger, but that part was hard to really tell just by looking, but Rose smirked confidently back at him as she nodded her head. She’d taken on bigger and badder, she was pretty sure.
“You must be Logan,” she said amiably. He was a new arrival to Atlantis, which meant he probably hadn’t learned not to underestimate her yet. Rose was not above using that to her advantage.
He was new to Atlantis, but not new to the rules of combat. While she was smaller than he was there was a fire in her eyes and confidence in her smile that was undeniable. That kind of fire didn’t exist in those that didn’t know what they were doing. And without much more of an introduction Logan and Rose began their sparring session. It was intense, and just as invigorating as Logan had hoped it would be. Rose was able to keep up with him, and she landed a few good punches and he returned them in time. There was banter, too — there always seemed to be in these things — but it made it better. More fun. In the end they were standing at opposite corners of the area, and Logan smiled over at the girl.
“That was fun,” he said as he grabbed two bottles of water, tossing the extra one he grabbed over to Rose. “I think now, though, we should go eat.”
Rose grinned back as him as she caught the water bottle easily. Atlantis had a nice supply of people who could keep up with her in the gym, but it was always nice to meet a new sparring partner, especially one who actually presented a challenge. If he could keep up with her appetite, even better.
“That might just be the second best idea you’ve had today,” she said, agreeing easily. No one who knew Rose would be surprised that she was hungry. Rose was almost always hungry and there was nothing like a good fight to amp her appetite up to eleven. “You like pizza?” she asked him. In her mind, it was a pretty stupid question, because didn’t everyone like pizza, but she had to ask anyway. It was one of her favorite foods, which made Stone one of her go to spots for food.
“Is there anyone that doesn’t like pizza?” he asked with a chuckle. Logan guzzled down the water, and then poured some of it over his head. He shook away the water like an animal, and then wiped his face with a towel.
“I’m still getting my bearings around a place like this. There’s a lot I still gotta learn, like the best place for pizza. But I’m guessin’ you probably got an answer for that.”
Logan moved over toward his bag and pulled out a cigar. “Don’t mind if I smoke while we walk, do ya?”
Rose made a face at the cigar but shrugged. “It’s your funeral,” she said. She’d never really understood the allure of smoking. Gross. It was one bad habit she’d never been tempted to even try. Grabbing her back, she started walking, expecting him to follow. Damn right, she new a good place for pizza and she was happy to lead the way.
