What makes brave little blanks afraid, I wonder? Endings? Beginnings? Or maybe...secrets?

[At the words, the mist begins to move, drifting out slowly from the place where it had clustered about the statue to blanket the arena floor- and then, with steady purpose, to rise until it obscures everything from view. In this curtain of white, it is difficult to breathe, and with each breath, you feel your eyelids grow heavier, your mind less alert. Or perhaps it is less a physical effect and more a trick of the mind- for even those of you who do not need to breathe feel consciousness slipping away like water. And like water it leaves a coldness, though it is hardly noticeable as sleep overtakes all.]
