warning: this is a twilight post
So, I wrote a Twilight blurb once, revolving around the idea of, "what if Edward had a Jacob of his own?" I would really be interested in playing it out with an Edward down for writing against an OFC character. I have a lot of details thought out, but I don't have things completely thought through. I'd be happy to do that with you.
Abilene, two years Edward's senior, had been his best friend while human. They had grown up together in Chicago, their families close friends, and despite her sometimes frivolous teenage nature, they were very close themselves. Their families had had hopes that they would, someday, latch on to that connection, begin a courtship and wed, but when Abilene suddenly disappeared in the winter of 1916, all hopes were lost. She was never found, and it was believed that she had been attacked by some low-life and left to the snow. She was only 17.
Abilene did die, and would have received some retribution for her human ways, but because she had been killed in such an unsavory way, she was made into a Vila. And she would have to live through eternity as a fairy-like woodland spirit.
Vila are fairy-like spirits, who live mostly in woodland areas. They tend to be a bit nomadic, traveling solo, but will join up with their sisters from time to time in Vila colonies around the world. They can be found around meadows, ponds and trees. They can appear as swans, falcons, horses or a beautiful version of their human form. While in human form, they usually wear long white dresses with flowing hair, and they tend to shimmer. The voices of the Vila are as beautiful as the rest of them, almost sing-song, and male humans who hear them lose all thoughts of food, drink or sleep, sometimes for days (women are merely discomforted). Despite their feminine charms, the Vila are fierce warriors. The earth is said to shake when they do battle. They have healing and prophetic powers and are sometimes willing to help human beings. The Vila tend to have very fickle moods. At some times they lure young men to dance with them, which according to their mood can be a very good or very bad thing for the lad. They will kill any man who defies them or breaks his word. Fairy rings of deep thick grass are left where they have danced which should never be trod upon (bad luck). Love for them is doomed: the Vila are cursed never to find their true love. If they do, that love will die a terrible death.
She spent much of her early Vila years learning how to cope with her new existence. She checked in on her family from time to time, but they all died quickly during the Spanish Flu, including Edward; and besides, had she appeared in human form in front of them, they would not have recognized her. She would never be recognized by the humans she once knew again. When she received a prophesy that her dear Edward had transitioned into a vampire, Abilene was nervous and reluctant — from the stories she knew, vampires were not ones to tangle with. She feared she had lost her friend to the darkness forever, but she kept a close watch on him, following his early travels and making sure he was always protected, even though she never revealed herself to him. She finally did, once she was in danger of being attacked by a hunting Edward. It took some time for their friendship to return, for that close bond to re-strengthen, and it was especially difficult — despite the fact that Vila are neutral to beings such as vampires and werewolves, they are still disgusted with their "crude" ways, and have a tendency to be aloof about it. But strengthen it did, and they spent many years after that visiting with one another. She would travel with him when he separated from his adoptive family, and always remain in the area whenever he stayed.
We can gloss over Bella, or I wouldn't mind writing her out completely. I think it would be interesting to explore the assumption that the Vila are doomed to never find love. I would prefer threading for this line, but can do AIM if need be. I wouldn't mind a new Edward writer, either. This is the first time I've written in the Twilight-verse.
