April 16th, Takato and OTA
Who?: Takato and OTA
What?: Snowball fight!
When?: Afternoon
Where?: Outside
Rating?: G
Status? In progress

“Ahhh!” exclaimed Takato as a snowball slammed into his face, right between his goggle-covered eyes.

“Got you, Takatomon!” yelled Guilmon happily.

How does he make and throw these anyway!? thought Takato. His hands are just claws!

It was actually rather amazing that that was Takato’s main concern at the moment. The past few days had been weird. Even weirder than normal. Several days ago, the mansion had, for some reason, thought it was Valentine’s Day. Rather, Valentine’s Days. There had been two. Guilmon had actually been hit, and oddly enough, had become totally infatuated with a TV. Takato guessed that because Guilmon was made of data, electronics counted as something (someone, maybe?) to fall in love with. Go figure.

It was good, too, because it distracted Takato from thinking of his own crush. He remembered Kazu once calling Valentine’s “Singles Awareness Day.” For Takato, that ended up leading to not only thoughts of Jeri, but all his other friends that weren’t there. He had noticed lots of people that appeared to know each other showing up, even if, from what he had heard, some of them wanted to kill each other. That had got him hoping that another Tamer would show, but so far there was no one.

However, to the gogglehead’s horror, Jeri hadn’t been the only girl on his mind. Another girl, or rather, another woman, went through his head occasionally too. Ever since his little “mistake” with the rooms, Takato hadn’t been able to face his neighbor, Fred. After all… how do you talk to someone after running into their room, jumping into their bed (with them IN IT), screaming, and running out? It was all very confusing.

After that, it had oddly become Christmas. Guilmon had been very excited to find snow around the copy of his shed in Takato’s room. Takato, on the other hand, just thought it was cold. It had been quite a relief to find that his closet had suddenly provided him with clothes for the situation. Once he was changed, the pair had gone outside in the snow and made snowmen (Guilmon insisted they were, in fact, snowmon) and had several snowball fights.

And so far, today was the about the same. For that, Takato was grateful. It was a nice distraction from all his worries, out here having fun with Guilmon.

Even if he cheats by digging under the snow AND the ground all the time… thought the boy as went to throw a snowball, only to find Guilmon had done just that. Takato stood ready to strike, surveying his surroundings carefully, when, suddenly…

“GOT YOU, TAKATOMON!”

A crimson colored dinosaur burst from the snow to his right, tackling him to the ground. Takato let out a yelp in surprise before they both fell to the ground, laughing. It had been a while since they had had this much fun. But suddenly, Guilmon stopped laughing, and looked up from where he was laying on top of his Tamer with an inquisitive look.

“Takatomon, someone’s here,” said Guilmon.

Takato tried to look, but because Guilmon was still on top of him, he ended up tilting his head in a way that would have been looking to the sky, had he been standing. As it were, everything just looked upside down instead.

“Um…hey there.”

Dr. Grimm had woken up with quite a chill that morning, thankfully though it was just her face and not the rest of her body since the mansion had provided her with extra blankets to sleep under. She’d showered, dressed, and eyed Lucy as her hands were wrapped around a hot cup of steaming coffee.

There wasn’t anything here that she could do, and that just made the doctor sigh with frustration. She couldn’t figure out how to get back home. This should’ve been quite easy, but apparently the gods were just going to lead her on a wild goose chase. That was, if there were any gods. But Dr. Grimm’s views were slowly changing on the matter, and she…well she was starting to believe that forces beyond their control were in fact controlling the mansion.

She drank down her coffee, slipped on her jacket, gloves and wrapped a scarf around her neck. She couldn’t catch at cold, or at least she didn’t really want to. She wanted to go outside, just to see if maybe something had changed out there since yesterday.

Carefully she made her way down the stairs, pausing for a moment to look over the frozen fountain. Everything still looked the same inside as it had yesterday, or at least that’s what she thought. Shaking her head, she trudged through the snow inside, and with a grunt pushed open the door.

Once outside she glanced around, raising a brow as she heard laughter and talking. A smile spread across her face at the voices, so she decided to go towards them. She was expecting to see two kids, there though was a boy and a…dinosaur? Her brows rose even further in surprise and she stopped a short distance away from the pair.

She was studying Guilmon intently, and then when the boy spoke she turned her attention to him. She smiled, “Hi.” She greeted, stealing another glance at the dinosaur for a moment. “I’m Dr. Samantha Grimm. Most people call me Sam or Dr. Grimm. Whichever one you want to call me is fine.” She took another small step forward, still studying Guilmon. “Wow…” She finally managed, eying the small red creature with curiosity.

“Oh, well hey! Nice to meet you,” said Takato, still seeing Dr. Grimm upside down because Guilmon had yet to move. Instead, the crimson dino just tilted his head as he looked at the doctor curiously. He seemed unaware that Takato was trying to stand.

“Uh…Guilmon?” said the boy, making a move to stand.

“Yeah, Takatomon?”

“Could you, um… move?”

“Oh! Sorry Takatomon!”

Once Guilmon had removed himself from his Tamer, Takato stood up and removed the goggles from his eyes, letting them rest above his eyes like normal. Now that he was standing, and could see properly, he could introduce himself.

“I’m Takato,” he said, “Takato Matsuki.” Then, noticing her gaze on the the bread-snarfing doofus next to him, he added, “This is my partner, Guilmon.”

“Hi!” said the dino cheerfully, taking a few steps forward. “Are you a new friend?”

Takato grinned at his partner’s words before taking a few steps forward himself, knowing what question was likely to come. People obviously weren’t aware of Digimon here.

“He’s a Digimon,” said Takato. “Short for Digital Monster, but he’s not a monster at all. Well, aside from appearance of course.”

The goggle-wearing Tamer put a hand on his friend’s head, scratching him behind the ears, waiting to see what the doctor’s reaction would be. She seemed rather interested in Guilmon. Takato only hoped she wasn’t the type of doctor that would try to dissect him or something.

Dr. Grimm gave Takato a bright smile, “Same to you.” She laughed softly as the apparent talking dinosaur moved off of him. She tilted her head to the side, and raised a brow over at Guilmon. “Nice to meet you too.”

She laughed once again, “I guess I am. I haven’t met too many people that I couldn’t be unfriendly with.” She gave a matter-of-fact nod and listened intently to Takato’s explanation as to what Guilmon was exactly.

“Digital?” Her brows furrowed and she looked back over at the red mini-dino. “I’ve never, in all my life seen something like you before, Guilmon.” Well except in like museums or such. She thought but did not voice this out loud. “So are these…Digimon every where in your world, or wherever you’re from Takato?” She was very curious now, and so the good doctor squatted and picked up a small amount of snow in her hands.

How long had it been since she’d last seen snow? It’d been several years, not since she’d been in college. At least that was if her memory was serving her correctly. Dusting her hands off, she looked back up at the pair, watching Takato as he petted Guilmon. “You two really are close huh?” Never in a million years would Dr. Grimm do something like dissecting Guilmon. She just wasn’t that way. Now, if he’d been dead on the other hand that would be a whole different story.

Takato smiled; she seemed to be a nice person. Of course, Erika had been… nice, too, but Dr. Grimm seemed more interested in Guilmon. That, Takato figured, proved that she was a normal person.

“Yeah, Digital,” said Takato. “Yamaki, our, um… friend in the government explains it best, though I still don’t quite get it. Something about how when Digimon come to the real world, the data that makes up their body in the Digital World rearranges molecules or something to make… what did he call them?” Takato paused a moment in thought. “Oh yeah, something like ‘false proteins,’ that make up their bodies in the real world. Although, having been to the Digital World, they sure don’t seem to be made of anything different there… meh, whatever, all that matters to me is that he’s here, really.”

Takato wasn’t quite sure how to answer the next question… Digimon weren’t exactly all over the place, but they still showed up pretty often. They just tended not to stick around because they would start causing havoc and the Tamers would, unfortunately, have to stop them.

“Well, they’re not exactly common,” said Takato, voicing his thoughts, “but they show up every once in a while. Unfortunately, they tend to be kind of… disoriented from their arrival and start causing havoc. That usually leads to us Tamers having to stop them when they can’t be reasoned with… which is almost always. Some Digimon, though, live perfectly with us, like Guilmon here. Some of my other friends have partners too, and over the past few years, more and more kids have been forming bonds and becoming Tamers all around the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future, everyone had a partner, but for now it just falls to the few Tamers there are to keep the peace.”

Continuing to pet Guilmon as Dr. Grimm dusted her hands and asked her question, Takato just smiled a little bit and looked to his partner. Were they close? Why, according to Gallantmon, they were one and the same.

“…yeah, we’re close. More than I think I could ever put in words. Guilmon’s been my best friend since we met five years ago, and after everything we’ve been through together…” Takato stopped, not really sure what to say. Then, with a laugh, he added, “heh, told you, I, um, can’t quite put it in words.”

“We fit together almost as well as bread and peanut butter!” said Guilmon enthusiastically. Takato just looked at his partner and grinned.

“Well there you have it,” he said, “like bread and peanut butter.”
