Here there be monsters... [Aug. 7th, 2015|05:29 pm]

The ocean winds from behind whipped Calder's hair whilst the air from the high sailing speed buffeted his body and face, sea spray whirling all around. He was gaining much pleasure from being aboard his friend's ship from the simple things like the sea air and no hustle and bustle of the great city. He felt energized out here, invigorated even, and though it made no true bearing he felt his element soothing him with its presence in every direction except up. There wasn't much water in that particular direction and Calder loathed it more than anything.

His frien--acquaintance Zephyr who so loved the skies was ship-bound whilst his dragon went on the hunt for food and Calder also had a little perverse enjoyment from seeing his sea-legs failing. It was a little more than that actually, Zephyr was beyond nearly all help whilst aboard upon the ocean's movements and Calder hadn't thought it humanly possible to empty one's guts over the side so many times before now.

His muscles twitched as he felt the urge to play with all this water that was around him but his sensible side kept him in control. It wouldn't be practical and he may need his energy for other things.

Another wretching sound from the deck behind him made him grin again and he called over his shoulder, not hiding his positive demeanour.

"Perhaps you should lean into the dips and lean back during the climbs. There's only hundreds of miles to go"

The only response Zephyr could muster behind him was a lot of coughing and maybe a little more stomach contents over the side of the ship. At least he had the sense to do that much. Vomit on deck was a no-no.

After a great experience of making a wonderful discovery, Rykas felt the need to share some information. He spent a leisurely stroll surveying the things around him, all the way through the city, the palace grounds, right up to the point he climbed the steps of one of the highest towers and entered the large room. It was filled with, seemingly, junk and a lot was covered in cobwebs and years of dust. Needless to say this wasn't a very visited spot and with it being so high up there was no official guard patrols to climb this high.

Rykas weaved the obstacles in his path to get to a large, ornate mirror, covered in an aging grey cloth previously before he pulled it off and stood looking at the pristine glass. He nicked his finger with the small dagger on his belt and drew a dark symbol upon the surface.

"Aperi oculos tuos tenebrarum penetrum", he spoke deeply, the Ancient language working with magics so as to resonate almost in the room.

The symbol 'bled' across the looking glass, filling it with crimson which slowly darkened to different shades before reaching black upon black. The very light of the room seemed drawn into the void but Rykas stood unphased and waited patiently until a deep voice called through.

"What does the Prince of the kingdoms, summon my attention for?"

"Abaddon...I thought an update was in order", Rykas started and made a general statement of things happening around the city, up to the point of their recent visitor on the beach, "...and he seemed unusual with those qualities, enough to consider a usefulness"

"Indeed. And what of the heir to the throne?"

Rykas scoffed but shrugged with great gesture, "it's still too hard to tell at this point. We shouldn't push any plans until I can be sure they'll bear fruit. Until then I'll continue working my own way...little nudges here and a push there"

"Do not become careless or lax, nor should you waste the power that has been given to you. More attacks will come, to keep the city on edge and on guard. The infiltrators will play along until the right time. You may go"

The mirror reverted to normal and Rykas stood there a moment, expressionless but then grinned to himself. An entity of few words that one. He turned to leave and spotted a guard in shock, bearing witness. That wouldn't do at all.

"I-I-I followed your higness to deliver a message but...y-y-you're consorting with...with THEM"

The guard made a break for it but Rykas deftly put water from roof-leaks to good use, ramming it into the door to close it before freezing it instantly. An impassable barrier. A sword was drawn, the man was ready to turn on him that quick from seeing a little dark deeds. Pity, it meant there was only one option for him.

The guard moved to take a swing but suddenly found his body unable to move. Rykas made few gestures but he was doing something. The man's body had a will of its own and he took steps back as Rykas moved forward. His own hand moved and prised the opposite fingers open until the blade fell, before grabbing them and yanking down to break all of them. He cried out but then his jaw locked tight.

"Very sorry to do this but we can't have you messing things up now, can we. If you're wondering in these final moments just what's happening, I'll shed some light to ease your confusion", Rykas spoke calmly, the man climbed up into a window ledge with no glass in its pane, staring down at water and rocks below, "I'm controlling your blood and the water content in your body. Simple but effective. Something I wouldn't be able to do without a little help but completely worth it I'd say. I don't have time to mess around doing others things with you so it's short and sweet unfortunately"

One step back and Rykas released his hold but it was too late for the poor man as gravity took its hold and he plummeted down to oblivion. Rykas rubbed his temples in frustration. It would be annoying if this were to keep happening. The ice melted and he walked out the door, back down to ground level. Maybe he needed to waste some time after all.

Ares was on his way back to the royal port, he wasn't sure where exactly but along the way he'd picked up a stowaway. She'd gone unnoticed for quite sometime, masking herself as a male. But Ares had uncovered her a couple of days ago fairly easily. From that point he'd had her continue to work, needing the extra crew, but once they were ashore things would change. It wasn't often he even encountered a Terran, but the girl had proven useful. When he saw the docks come into view he smiled, the dragons were swirling above the castle. That was certainly different, it only meant Silas was preparing for battle.

From what he'd been messaged about he was to help aid Calder to the fairy territory. It was quicker to travel by dragon, however thanks to Asa thinking on his feet as always it had been deemed that the dragons may just set the fae on edge. He was sure he could get them there in a matter of days, regardless how strong the waters were, not to mention with Calder aboard he really didn't worry about the currant.

While he was lost in thought the fairy landed on the deck, getting an immediate response from the males aboard the ship. He nodded to her as she made her way up to the stern. "Laila, a pleasure to see you as always my dear." Ares could throw the charm out on a whim, and had yet to fail. And by that slight blush to hr cheeks and smile he knew he still hadn't.

"Ares, I am sure Calder will be thrilled to see you. I'm not sure how many of us are going, that is still being discussed."

Ares chuckled and shook his head as he steered his ship. "I expect no less from the royal family. But of course having you aboard will be a treat. I'll see to it a cabin is prepared as best we can to his liking, which will be nowhere near grand enough for his taste." He gave her a wink and shouted out orders to his crew as they brought the ship to dock and tied it off. "But then again, I assume you know that."

Releasing the wheel he stepped toward her and gave her a warm hug before tucking her arm into his, escorting her up the dock. "You are looking well." He did enjoy that hint of color that lit her face up, undoubtedly Calder wouldn't be pleased with his shameless flirting and flattering of the enchanting fairy. As he stepped off the ship he raised a brow as the stowaway started behind him. Tilting his head he stopped her with a strong hand and looked down at her. "I don't think so Rowan, you'll be staying here until I return and decide what to do with you."

The look she gave him could of melted an entire glacier. Ares gave a nod to his first mate who took her back aboard. Then he returned his attention to Laila, who had a very questioning gaze directed at him. "Stowaway. Pirate law, she's mine to deal with. I have yet to decide her fate. And just so you know she's a pain in the ass. Never really did get along too well with Terrans."

They walked into the castle and headed straight for the war room, which seemed to be where they frequently gathered at these days, Laila still on his arm.

There was no helping it. Calder was going to throw up anytime soon. Riding on the back of a dragon was definitely his least favourite form of transport if not his least favourite thing ever. He hardly had spoken much since leaving the city which had probably suited Zephyr fine since he was at liberty to talk...something he did best...to Laila.

With as much strength he could muster, Calder fought the urge to vomit and tried to ignore exactly how small everything looked from way up where they were. In fact, he tried to ignore everything below his current eye-level and watched clouds and birds. As a prince he felt this was not a worthy format of travel and as a Fluentan he felt lost without much water surrounding him. It was all below in seas, lakes and rivers. Up here he had very little moisture and not even any rainclouds just yet.

There were birds in the distance and he wondered if there were any rainclouds over there, such were the simple thoughts he had right now. He did also consider a moment the return of his brother shortly before his own converse departure, weighing up some of the things he'd said in conversation and trying to remember something a bit off about him but couldn't quite put his finger on it. Nothing obvious. Of course, it had been a while since he'd spent any good time with Rykas so it was only natural he'd grown and changed a bit.

"We need to land soon or I am going to spoil your dragon's scales, Zephyr"

There was a deep grumble of mild concern at that prospect, reverberating underneath him.

For weeks she'd been in the royal city, and it had been a bit of a lesson to learn she didn't have to fear being herself there. She had lost track of how many times Calder had told her she didn't need to hide behind her cloak, until he'd finally snatched it off of her and was still holding it hostage. One thing she knew about the prince was he didn't give a damn what others thought of him. So far their friendship had really hit it off, she felt protective of him and well he seemed to enjoy teasing her, but she'd caught a few glares he'd given others who tried the same. But it was fine, having a friend was something she hadn't allowed before, but was quickly finding she enjoyed it.

Not given much of a choice, with her cloak taken she always had her wings and markings on display. It was obvious there were some that had a distaste for it, but she tried to not let it bother her. It was beautiful outside that morning so she'd decided it was a good time to stretch her wings, it had been ages since she'd flown, not wanting to chance her wings not being completely healed after the battle.

She'd sprung off from her balcony and though she was a bit jerky at first she managed just fine and was soon soaring. When in the air she felt free and untouchable. Hovering among the clouds she looked down at the royal city, it almost looked as if it glowed from above, it was truly a spectacular sight.

A whisper of a noise caught her attention and she glanced in the direction it came. Being that she was the only flying being around there she knew it had to be Asa or Zephyr, out for a ride on their dragons. Venturing closer she smiled when she saw the younger of the two. "It is a beautiful morning. How are you two getting along?"

Home sweet...rubble [Feb. 13th, 2014|11:00 pm]

Rykas sat on a low wall just within city boundaries. In one hand he had a moon fruit which he raised and took a bite of, tilting his head to one side curiously as he chewed and watched the slow reconstruction of the city wall. Fascinating, all that damage with just so little an attack force but then, judging from one of the nasty beasties trapped in an ice tree, if they were that large in some cases it wasn't a wonder at all.

When he finished his fruit he made a bee line for the castle, noting the presence of dragons on the roof. No doubt they wouldn't be there long this morning before their riders were sent on errands by the King after meeting in the war room. Rykas knew the routine well, despite it not being a very used one. His travelling cloak wrapped round him shrouded him from the general public noticing who he was which left his journey through the streets calm and uneventful. He didn't really want a big commotion on returning back after only a few weeks away.

He did have to pull his hood back when he got to the main entry, else the guards would have denied him access. He sighed in contentment, wondering what Mother was doing and what Father was planning. Better yet, who Calder was sharing his bed with this morning; man, woman or both. He had a laugh to himself as he strode towards the throne room. He entered but there were only servants cleaning. Father must have been busy all night and was either in the war room still or was taking some much needed rest in bed. Stepping along idly he ran his fingertips over the metal of the throne and grinned playfully, sitting in it and looking out at the imaginary crowd before him.

Imagination was all he'd get unfortunately.

To the triumphant, the spoils! [Dec. 18th, 2013|12:27 am]

[Current Mood |drunk]

Calder had returned home to the great city once more. He had seen how the other factions and races lived their lives and had experienced life as a seemingly common person, which he had to say had sucked immensely. Instead of taking too much of the good aspects of his journey, Calder had once again opted to focus on the bad and had decided that the trip had been a tremendous waste of his time and talents. Although, he had got to ride on a dragon.

SO. Instead of returning straight home to the palace he found himself drawn elsewhere and was now situated in one of his favourite bars......that just also happened to be a less-than-respectable place that a Prince should not really be seen in.

He stood naked in a rented room, staring out of the window in a half-drunken daze, pondering the usual stuff and a mix of what exactly he could impress his family with about his travels. A similarly naked woman sidled up to his left with a drink of wine in hand and tipped it gently to his lips as he drank and once finished he held her face with one hand and kissed her with passion. Another hand appeared from his right, turning his face to that of a young man who also plied him with wine in a similar fashion and Calder repeated his actions. He found enjoyment from both the sexes and wasn't ashamed of it.

His companions led him to the bed and shortly thereafter, once he had fulfilled his desires he retreated to the main seating of the bar area downstairs (fully dressed) and ordered more drink which, when it arrived, looked like two flagons rather than the one, albeit one was a bit fuzzier than the other. When he finally reasoned he could not pick up the fuzzy one (after a drunken attempt) he finally latched onto the real one and turned in his seat to view the small folk.

Now this. This was the life. Who needed to travel about and bore themselves to death when enjoying yourself was more...well...fun. His father had been right though, in a roundabout way, the peasantry were good for something.
