* The Society is a secret society dedicated to monitoring and maintaining the balance between humanity and the divine. They exist to protect mankind after a centuries long, hard fought battle for independence from the whims and caprices of the gods.
* Why is it called “The Society”? Simply put, it was a working title that stuck. The anonymity of it rather suits the behind the scenes workings of the group as a whole.
* The Society’s complex is located in Arizona and there are facilities for any and all members who wish to live there, though most choose to come and go as they please and have homes all over the world. Telecommuting is a glorious thing. However, the complex is warded against divine intrusion and heavily guarded.
* The Society membership is primarily human, though some are more “gifted” than others, and it does count among its members several demigods, though they are in the minority.
* Throughout history, The Society has been supervised by a triumvirate, known only as One, Two and Three. Those positions are held by direct descendants of the men and women who first set out to defeat the gods and set man above the divine. For generations, the power has passed from parent to son or daughter or to one chosen as a surrogate child, each groomed to hold the secrets and take their place in The Society. The Three hold equal power, with none set over the others. The number was set from the beginning and for the simplest of reasons - there can be no tie vote with three.
* Overall, members are brought into the fold in one of two ways - through familial connections or they are head-hunted and brought in by a current member, each initiated after an exhaustive series of tests and background checks.
* Within The Society, there are several different castes - i.e. warriors, healers, investigators, researchers, watchers.
* The Society is very well funded, so money is not an issue. Feel free to outfit your characters with the latest in tech and weaponry, though we do ask that you stay within some limits. Everything has to actually exist in the real world - no super sonic shrink rays or glasses that let you see someone’s panties. (I totally ordered those from the back of a comic book and still feel gypped. Lying rat bastards. Don’t even get me started on the sea monkeys.)
* The “war” is fought mostly on the intellectual front at the time the game is beginning. Spies and watchers are at the forefront, doing their jobs and keeping their eyes peeled for any signs that the gods are making a move to regain their perceived places as the rulers of men.
* While The Society believes they have the right to “remove” any god, demigod, minor god or even the occasional human who betrays or threatens their mission, having the power to do so is another thing all together.
