I ain't afraid of your mess no more, babe-
Characters: Nick Fury, Jessica Drew
Setting: Eugene's Bar in Brooklyn, mid-afternoon
Content: Nothing Questionable
Summary: Jessica Drew has some hard questions for Fury.
Eugene's in Brooklyn was mostly deserted on a Thursday afternoon, although Nick recognized a few regulars at the bar and at a few of the tables. Still, it was empty enough that he should've been able to spot Drew right away, and it wasn't like her to be late. He sidled over to where the dive's namesake stood behind the bar pouring a drink. He pushed the glass of amber liquid wordlessly to Nick and the pair exchanged nods of greeting.
"Have you seen-" Nick began, but Eugene interrupted him with a jerk of his head towards a doorway at the far end of the bar. "Your girl's in the back," the bartender informed him. "Empty back there this time of day. Here. Been waiting a bit. She might need a fresh one." He poured another drink, bourbon, and passed it to Nick. Fury nodded, slapped a bill on the bar for the drinks, and headed back into the little room of tables that served as overflow for those nights that Eugene's did get busy, filled with the working class from the neighborhood cutting loose after a long day.
Fury came here a lot, and had been coming here for years. Nobody bothered anybody, Eugene carried good Scotch, and it was close to Nick's apartment. This was also the first place he'd met her, Jessica Drew, the pale dark haired woman tucked into a back booth. Nick put her new bourbon down in front of her and slid into the seat across the table, smile curious and one eyebrow raised. "What's going on, Drew?" He doubted she was just here to catch up; for one, it was the middle of the afternoon and he'd never taken her for that kind of drinker, and for another he didn't think she would call him up to meet her during work hours unless it was important. Which meant they were probably here for the seclusion it provided at this time of day during the week. Something was going on.
