I don't ever want to let you down. I don't ever want to leave this town.
Characters: Avengers Assemble!
Setting: Our Avengers HQ Firehouse place
Content: Nothing questionable
Summary: Wanda calls an emergency meeting of the Avengers because there are so many feels after this.
Note: So here's a tagging order so no one has to post right after themselves- Wanda, Pietro, Spider-man, Steve, Jess, Jan, Clint
This shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone, not after Nick's calculated downfall and Hammer's public feelings about vigilantism and yet Wanda still felt shocked that it had come to this. Join with S.H.I.E.L.D. or resign from the hero business. It wasn't like the Avengers hadn't been faced with a similar quandary before, but this time felt different. This time it felt outrageous and wrong, at least to the Scarlet Witch. The zombie plague was a catalyst, Fury was a scapegoat, and now everyone else was fodder in some megalomaniacal battle for control. Hammer could be at the root of it or it could just as easily be some secret government organization or the military or any number of anti-super hero interests. There were a lot of them. How and why and who didn't matter so much now that the reckoning was here and hadn't been stopped.
Maybe it was too much to expect the system to work, for there to at least be some kind of due process or at least a vote to change the law that the new regime was misappropriating. No, just S.H.I.E.L.D. with the final word, taking no questions. Could they even do that? That question didn't matter either because they had, whether the super heroes of the country liked it or not, and now the Avengers would have to decide what they were going to do either individually or as a team. Inwardly, Wanda didn't think the team was going to make it through this one intact, not as rocky as things had been lately (and what felt like forever). What it really came down to was who would give in and who would fight.
Almost as soon as the news report was over, Wanda put out the call on the identicards- "Avengers assemble"- and teleported herself and Clint to the Avenger's converted Fire House headquarters in the East Village. She sat down at the round table in the fire house's common room and waited, mulling over what her decision would be. This was going to be hard no matter what any of them chose. The days ahead might be the worst they'd ever had to face.
