Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one.
Characters: Billy Kaplan, Nick Fury, Tony Stark, Clint Barton, Teddy Altman (phone)
Setting: NYC Subway system
Content: Frightening Situations, and Mature Language. Viewer Discretion is Advised.
Summary: The subway will no longer be a viable means of transport
Billy coughed, wincing and holding a hand to his throat. The subway car was packed, and he was jostled on either side as they sped through the underground. Everyone was on edge. More then half the people seemed to have loaded themselves down with as much food as they could carry, taking up seats with bags.
There was a sudden yell from the back of the car, then more, people pushing and screaming, and at his end of the car he couldn't tell what had caused it, was simply caught up in the sudden influx of people rushing to get away. People were skiddish. It was a lot like a herd of deer, all taking off at the first sight of danger.
He tried to fight against the tide of people, falling to the floor and feeling people stepping on and tripping over him. The cause of all this panic finally came into view, a crazed man with a sandwich board around his neck, and a bloody knife in his hand which he was swinging at anyone unfortunate enough to be in reach.
"They're going to kill you all! I am the Angel of Death! The Angel of Mercy! I will save you!!" he was screaming, "This is a far kinder fate. Do not run from me."
Kicking out at the person who had fallen on top of him, Billy crawled forwards, flailing to catch hold of the man's pant leg, electricity crackling and sending the man falling. Panting, he had just managed to push himself shakily to his feet, kicking the knife from the man's hand when the train skidded to a halt, and he fell back, hitting his head.
It was a short while before he regained consciousness, blinking groggily, and looking about in confusion. The car was mostly empty, save himself and a few bodies, some moaning in pain, others still. Swearing, and coughing, he ran to the nearest woman, trying to put himself to use and heal her. He didn't get far into his chanting before his voice was little more then a rasp, and he was forced to push himself to his feet again. He ran for the doors, left open and ran out into the platform, looking for someone, anyone, to help. It was deserted.
He gave a frustrated groan, finding the nearest pay phone, his cell getting no bars. "911, what is your emergency?" the voice said on the other line, "I need help. I’m at…um…145 Street Saint Nicholas Avenue. The subway- there was an-" he started, but he could hear a commotion on the other end of the line. "What the hell is that!?" the operator said, the line going dead seconds later.
Billy stared at the phone in disbelief before dialing Teddy's number. Please answer. Please.
