That is why it is a target for foreign armies to attack: there are the Krommathen tribes to the north who follow the old ways, but raid for food, supplies and more farm land. There are Aeqineians to the south who have a weak truce to hold back war. There are the king's bastards, who look for ways to take what they think they are owed. For how advanced Staseris is, there are still vast tracks of forest or ranges of mountains where magic, dragons and other magical creatures reign.
