Panic spread throughout the realm. The Elders had already put all the whitelighters on lockdown after they'd learned of the release of the Titans - news that sent shivers down the spines of even the newest and lowest of Whitelighters - which meant that unless absolutely necessary no-one was to orb to the mortal realm, for fear that the Titans might use them in some way.
But just minutes ago the death of some whitelighters who'd gone against the Elders and broken the lockdown rocked through them all. They all knew it could only mean one thing; the Titans had aquired their abilities and were now able to orb up here. Every whitelighter in existence was in danger and they all knew it! Especially when the Titans have just done so. The Elders had, of course, already orbed down to Earth, seeking protection from any powerful witches they could find including the Charmed Ones, the most powerful witches to be born, leaving the rest of the whitelighters to stand against the Titans. Which didn't surprise any of them. The Elders were renowned for their wisdom and leadership, but hardly ever got their hands dirty.
Of course, not all the whitelighters stayed to fight. Many orbed out as fast as they could, some out of fear, others out of the instinct to survive, to preserve the future of the Whitelighter order so that if the Titans were defeated, there would still be whitelighters to guide and protect the witches they cared for and any potential whitelighters who, without their help, might never gain Whitelighter status. Several of Annabeth's own current charges were such people, so though she'd stayed to fight alongside her remaining comrades she felt she owed it to those people, those defenseless mortals, to stay alive. Which is why she was elbowing her way through the hordes of fighting, fleeing Whitelighters, trying to get clear of her attackers long enough to orb out without interruption. Unfortunately one of them had spotted her running away and given chase, so she took the only course of action she had left. she orbed as she ran, relaxing slightly as she felt the enery building, felt her body breaking down into the familiar blue-white lights that gave this power and her kind its name. As the sounds of battle begin to fade away there's a flash of brilliant light - the Titan who'd followed her had attacked in desperation, realising it's quarry was escaping - before everything went dark.
When Annabeth came to, she found herself in an unfamiliar setting, surrounded by sand with the sound of lapping waves reaching her ears. It took her a few seconds to realise the water was lapping at her feet. she jumped up quickly - grimacing painfully as the bruises she'd gained from the attack and presumably from her landing flared up - and backed as far away from the waves of the ocean as she could. she'd been deathly afraid of wild waters ever since she'd drowned to death while stowed away on a boat several lifetimes ago, though she'd learned over the years to...master that fear if her whitelightet duties took me out to sea, the ocean, a river or canal.
Once she'd calmed down, the first thought she had was 'Am I dead?' But no, she couldn't be. she'd been a Whitelighter long enough to know that spirits don't get bruised or feel pain, at least not in the same way as mortals or , indeed, Whitelighters. No, she was still alive, or as alive as any Whitelighter is. she could only conclude that the blast from the Titan's attacked had redirected her orb to some God-forsaken - sorry Boss - unknown island in the middle of nowhere. she tried orbing away, but she'd only got a few hundred feet in the air before something sent her hurtling back down to the island with a very painful bump.
She climbed stiffly back to her feet, grimacing again as the new bruises quickly healed - one of the perks of being an angel - and brushed off the sand that had clung to her clothes. Clearly she wasn't getting out of here anytime soon, at least not under her own power. "Well, since it looks like I'll be here for a while I'd better see if there's any kind of civilisation here" she muttered with a shrug. Looking around, she spotted what looked like a small haven in the distance. "Seems as safe a bet as anything." With a hefty sigh, she set off in the direction of the haven.
