Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Landon (NPC Hunter) and OPEN
When: Late Friday Night
Where: Hyde Park Area

Go here, bloody Spaniard says. 'Evil' is waiting. Bugger all, I don' see no evil. All I see is a few bums and a goddamned bunch of kids who shouldn't be wanderin' around this late at night. Likes to get their necks bit if they stay out. Landon grumbled inwardly, keeping his focus for the most part to the streets and the damp grass of the park. He'd been hired freelance by a group of crazy hunters, some brethren or other who fancied themselves the next Crusade or Inquisition.

So he got paid to off a few vampires, chase a few demons. No skin off of his hide, right? And hell's bells, better pay if there was skin off his hide. He'd been hunting for his fair share of years, ever since his mum'd come home with a gaping wound in her neck from some crazed lunatic who'd had the gall to snatch her purse too. Hadn't killed her, just driven her round the bend, and the only thing that made her feel better was to hear from Landon himself that he'd killed another sucker just for her. So what if the rest of the family thought it a lie.

Turning the corner, Landon froze, lifting his narrow chin. The noise he'd heard had startled him, but not so much as the figure coming out of the trees. Crouching down, he waited, gaging his prey. If it moves like a vamp and it looks like a vamp...

Julian is on the scent. The cool night air carries the tantalizing scent of blood to him and he follows it, his mouth watering. He barely spares a glance toward the thin young man with the shaggy brown hair. Just another punter out for a pint.

Julian's gaze drifts toward a couple walking along one of the park's winding paths. The boy isn't much to speak of, but the girl is pleasantly plump, round in all the right places. He smiles, his eyes almost seeming to glow in the moonlight.

Now there's a meal...

His stomach growls and he begins moving toward them, his boots soundless on the grass.

Landon perked up, his eyes fastening on a dark figure moving at a dedicated clip towards a couple. Narrowing his gaze, he reached beneath his jacket and withdrew a long silver knife, hiding it in his sleeve.

Mugger or bleeder, this bloke's in for it, Landon stopped next to a tree and waited, a fever rising in his blood as his adrenaline spiked. Easy...control it, or he'll smell it and flee...

A more experienced vampire would have smelled it, would have caught that metallic tang in the air that only comes from fear...or excitement.

But Julian doesn't notice it. He's fixated on his hunger, on her.

So close now...

The breeze stirs her hair. She turns to look at her boyfriend, laughing softly at something he said. Julian's eyes focus on the side of her neck, the strong pulse pounding, rich blood just beneath the skin.

He's within inches of them now, coming up fast behind them. The couple strolls on, hand in hand, oblivious to the danger literally at their heels.

Has to be a new one. Else he wouldn't be so blatant about it...or he's a junkie. Landon had made mistakes before, going after human criminals instead of vampires, but he'd figured it was all for the greater good.

The dark shape got closer and Landon's fingers tightened on the pommel of the thin knife, drawing it back for a throw. Lord, let my aim be true... Landon sent the knife flying towards the dark shape, aimed at a nonlethal area, hoping he could bring down the man silently before he reached his would-be prey.

Julian reaches for her companion, intending to snap his neck and toss him aside. Just then, the knife finds its mark, burying itself in Julian's thigh almost to the hilt. Julian howls, clutching his leg and crumpling to the ground. The couple gasp and turn around, but in the darkness, they cannot see the knife or the blood. They merely see a young man on his knees, moaning and clutching at the grass.

"Bloody drunks," the boy mutters, grabbing his girlfriend's hand. "Come on, Mfanwy. Let's get out of here."

Julian can only curse, watching helplessly as his quarry makes her escape. He grasps the hilt of the knife, his hands slick with blood. With difficulty, he manages to pull it out, screaming as the steel grates against bone. He lies there for a moment, panting, his hair hanging in his face. Then he growls, eyes flashing as he searches the darkness for the one who hurt him.

Landon held his breath, watching the knife soar. So close. Too bloody close. He gave a grin of grim satisfaction, the action pulling at his lips even as he tried to keep them stern. Gotcha. Slipping his hand into his coat, he pulled out a short thin blade, perfectly designed to take off the head of one undead.

Making sure that the couple was out of distance, Landon stepped from the shadows. "Vile thing." He palmed the hilt of the sword and tilted it, the blade catching in the moonlight. "Still want that dinner?"

Julian gets to his feet, snarling in pain. Blood soaks one leg of his trousers, trickling down into his boot.

"Hunter" he hisses, his fangs bared. The moonlight catches his eyes, making him look quite insane as he takes a step closer. "I'll have my dinner yet..."

Landon laughed, a hoarse sound, as he lifted his chin. "Over your corpse, deathwalker." He had been right. Vampire. His instincts weren't so bad after all. Perhaps he had been the right man for the Spaniard's job.

Rushing forward, he swiped the sword downwards, aiming for the vampire, his boots squelching in the damp grass.

Julian leaps aside, barely avoiding the razor-sharp blade. He brings the knife down in a smooth arc, plunging it deep into the hunter's shoulder. Ignoring the agony in his injured leg, he then leaps on the man, taking them both down to the ground. Snarling, his fangs bared, Julian hisses again, his hands wrapped around the hunter's throat. He finds the carotid artery, the pulse beating hard against his blood-sticky palm. Julian smiles.

"Good night, hunter."

He whips his head down, intending to bury his fangs deep in the hunter's throat.

Shite. Landon grunted in pain as the knife he'd thrown earlier buried itself to the hilt in his flesh. He hadn't quite expected the retaliation. Most of the time, they went down easily, the young ones. They didn't understand or know their own strength.

Landon felt the first thrill of fear run through his blood as he marked the feel of fangs against his neck. God in Heaven, no!

Fumbling into his pocket as he felt fangs pierce his skin, he slipped another dagger from his belt and made to plunge it deep into the vampire's stomach.

Julian is just about to bury his fangs in the hunter's neck when the man buries the dagger in Julian's belly. White-hot agony explodes deep inside Julian and he lets out a blood-curdling scream. He rolls off the man and collapses on the grass, curling into a ball with his hands pressed against his wounded stomach.

The blood that gushes over his fingers is cold, useless, not so much sustaining life as a memory of it. But the pain, the pain is excruciating, so much worse than the boy vampire could ever have imagined.

"Ai..." he whimpers, pressing his face into the cool grass. "Ai, Leo, help me. Leo, please..."

Landon let out a rush of breath as he felt the vampire let go of him, shaking himself for a moment before he glanced down at the creature. "And now, you die, like all the rest before you...don't even think to pray to God."

But the word the boy was saying wasn't God. The Spaniard, who always wanted to know everything, didn't like to hear that the creatures who he had slain had prayed in their final moments.

Reaching beneath his coat, he pulled yet another weapon out and knelt down next to the vampire. A sudden light on his face made him blink and he looked up, his eyes narrowing in the brightness.

"Sir, is someone injured?"

Great. The effin' coppers.

"Nah, s'just me mate here. We're smashed...terribly sorry officers...won't be a bother no more. We're almost home." He took a couple of steps towards the cops after he'd sheathed his weapon and smiled a wide guileless smile.

There are other voices and a light. It moves over Julian disinterestedly, then focuses on his would-be killer. The others are policemen, Julian can tell that much. He hears the hunter speaking to them, spinning a tale of two mates on a night out, too much to drink, and the short, merry walk home. He clutches at his belly, every movement sending sickening waves of agony through him. He tries to raise his head, tries to speak, to beg for help. Perhaps he can convince the policemen that he is a human boy, a helpless young victim in need of protection. He's done it before. Perhaps they can help him - or at least hold the murderous hunter back - long enough for Julian to regain his strength and make his escape.

"Please...help me. Please don't let him kill me."

The words come out in a faint whisper. He swallows, tries again, but he's too weak. He lies there, panting, the grass cool against his cheek. Tears sting his eyes and he wishes again for Leo. Leo would keep the hunter from hurting him again. Leo would make it all right.

But Leo's not here. All Julian can do is lie there and wait to die.

"Your mate alright there?" One policeman asked, flashing his light over towards Julian.

Landon pretended to stumble into the light, shaking his head. "Yeah, yeah, he's fine...just a bit dizzy is all." He grinned at the cop, reaching his hand back into his hair. "He'll be right, just as soon as we get home. Don't want to take up any more of your time, constables..."

The policemen looked at each other and one shrugged. The other flashed his light over Landon's shoulder and raised an eyebrow. "You sure he's alright? Looks like he's in some sorts there..."

Julian listens to the conversation, his mind racing as he tries to decide what to do. The wound in his belly is healing, albeit slowly. He is strong enough to move now, but not yet strong enough to fight. When the police officer's light shines on him a second time, he decides playing the victim is the best strategy. They are armed, it is true, but their guns cannot kill him. The vampire hunter, however, is all too human. Perhaps he can get the police to turn on him while Julian makes his escape.

Slowly, Julian gets to his feet. He turns toward them, staggering into the wide beams of their flashlights. To them, he looks like a terrified young boy, the victim of a horrific assault. Julian knows this, and plays the part to the hilt.

"Help me," he begs, holding his bloody hands out toward them. The glut of dark blood soaked into his shirt and trousers shines black in the light. "Please help me. Please don't let him hurt me again."
