WHO: Thomas, Jamie, Emma and Lena
WHAT: Waking up
When the swelling in Thomas' brain stubbornly refused to go down, a hole was drilled in his head to relieve the pressure. Finally, on Thursday morning, the pressure had dissipated to the point where he could be awoken and the situation could be explained to him.
His family had gathered to be there for him, not that Thomas knew what was happening. To Thomas, all he knew he had been on a plane. When consciousness returned to him slowly, his eyes fluttered open. His head felt huge and sore, and he couldn't really feel the rest of his body yet. He didn't recognise where he was, but it wasn't hard to realise when he looked at the stark walls that he was in a hospital room.
Oh god. The plane had crashed. He was paralysed.
"Jamie?" he slurred and immediately Thomas tried to sit up in the bed.
"Mr Kemp, we need you to lie back down," a nurse told him.
"My son! Where's my son?!" Thomas called out, getting quite agitated. "JAMIE!? Is he okay?! Where's Jamie?!"
Emma Kemp, who had been waiting in the room with him, didn't bother to try to calm her son. She knew the only thing that would calm Thomas down was seeing Jamie. She leaned out into the hallway and beckoned her grandson forward. "Jamie, love, he needs to see you."
