Since Ian had been shot in his arms, Victor had sat in stunned silence. He hardly noticed the hours dragging on. His mind was too mired in guilt and horror. He kept his arms wrapped around Tabitha who refused to leave his side, and he waited.
The moment he heard commotion outside the door, however, he snapped out of it. He was exhausted and hungry, but he was still a police officer and he stood to put himself between the door and the rest of the hostages. "Get up," he hissed to them, waving them forward. Someone was running down the hall outside the door and voices were yelling and he could hear commands being shouted. Victor was pretty sure that meant someone was coming for them. One of the voices he could hear sounded distinctly like his partner. "Come stand up here, on this side of the door. I think we're about to get out of here."
His fellow hostages complied, and he placed them behind him, lined up against the wall. Victor hoped when the door opened he could grab whomever entered and tackle them to the ground while the others ran for it. Which was, as it happened, exactly what he did. The moment the door opened, Victor jumped, putting all his weight into the effort. He pushed the armed man to the floor and yelled at his fellow hostages to get out.
It was his hope that his fellow officers would be outside as well and they could see the hostages to safety.
Michael had been running up the stairs in search of his partner when he caught sight of the small group of people leaving the room. Immediately he rushed over to them and flashed his badge. "This way!" he called, waving them towards a stairway. He could find Victor later.
Victor struggled with the armed man, and he managed to shove the gun away from him before punching the guy in the face. He beat a hasty retreat into the hallway, darting through it quickly. He made a effort to open every door as he did so, to make sure no hostages were left behind. He knew his group hadn't been the only ones, though he wasn't aware they had been kept in different buildings and already rescued.
He ran around a corner and before he even noticed the other gunman, he was caught in the gut by a bullet. A moment later Michael, who had charged up the stairs again to go back to Victor, crested the stairs just in time to see it all. He raised his gun and fired at the gang member, dropping him before the man could shoot again. Then Michael moved to Victor's side.
Victor had felt a sharp pain and then he realised he was on the ground and he couldn't feel anything any more except a distinct wetness on his belly. Then Michael was above him and Victor looked up at his partner and smiled. "Michael-" he groaned, but he wasn't able to get any more words out. It was with peaceful acceptance that he knew he was dying. The others were safe as far as he knew. It was going to be okay.
Michael chewed on his lip for a moment and then Victor felt the man's hands on his side. "Victor, I promise I will explain everything later-"
It felt warm and relaxing and Victor stared up at his partner and he was absolutely sure he could see a glow around Michael, growing brighter and brighter. And did he see the dim outline of wings? The pain in his belly subsided almost instantly and he blinked up at Michael.
"I cant fix it all," Michael lamented. "But you're going to be okay."
Victor grunted something at the other man, and then his vision faded and he lost consciousness.

He woke up, his head fuzzy from the pain medication and anaesthesia. There was a blonde woman standing above him and when she noticed he was looking at her, she smiled in an incredibly fake way and started explaining what had happened in very large words he didn't quite catch all of. He understood a few things. He had been brought in in the early hours of the morning with a gunshot wound. He had had emergency surgery and it was a miracle he was alive. A miracle the doctor didn't understand, though Victor had an idea it had something to do with whatever the hell Michael had done to him. It was now three in the afternoon and Victor was about to be moved to a room to recover.
She was shocked when he requested to be put in a room with someone else instead of having a private one all to himself, but because he was a cop who had gotten injured on the job, they did what he asked, and wheeled him into the room with Miranda Lowsley.
Victor waved at her as soon as he was wheeled in and when he had been transferred over and they were alone, he turned to her. "Okay?" he asked, his voice weak and scratchy.
