[ "Meet me at the hospital." ranks extremely low on the list of things you want to hear late at night, and needless to say Reid doesn't waste any time in getting over there. Luckily he got enough information out of Kitty to know that she's okay, and the rest is easily puzzled together from paying attention to the network. The memorial garden. Tyki. Cross.

Shots fired.

It's not difficult at all to guess why she's there, and on the brisk walk to Sector 1 Reid had more than enough time to think and try to prepare for what's ahead. This, so close to Allen's disappearence..? It doesn't take a profiler to figure out the kind of stress that puts on a person. Enough for him to worry.]

[She squeezes it back.] Tell me if you change your mind. [She takes a few steps back toward her closet and reaches for a flashlight which she flips on and hands to his free hand.]

Going down. [And with that they are literally sinking into the floor. With the exception of the Shelter there aren't really basements in Marina. In fact the ground isn't as deep as you might expect. She would know. She's explored everything, even underground. But it was deep enough for this.

They move through a lot of solid matter. More than passing through a wall or a tree. It might be a strange experience for Reid, but Kitty is used to it. And she knows exactly when they'll find an opening again which is just about...now.

She touches them down in a small, roughly defined room. It's not tiny. More like a bathroom or walk-in closet. There was room for her, Allen, and Link to all be down here among her stuff for a few hours when Allen was on the run. The walls are packed dirt and the ceiling is the same way except she's added some beams above her. It's not exactly a miracle of architecture, but she'd made it stable. There were flat planks she'd managed to get together and put down on the floor. She had sheets on top of them and on top of that where electronics covered by more sheets. Some things were in plastic tubs depending on their size. One of the tubs has packaged foods and drinks. There's a medical kit. More flashlights. Some of the things are hard to see.

The room was entirely dark except for Reid's flashlight though a moment later she flips on a lamp which is also battery-powered.]

Reid, welcome to my safe house.

[Although he's more or less used to the phasing by now there is a moment of cold, pulse-quickening panic — before it's been short bursts of solid matter, walls or trees or ceilings. This is so much more than that, more than he can hold his breath for and although the mechanics behind it are exactly the same, the length makes it difficult to remember that he's perfectly safe in this impenetrable darkness.

The grip on her hand might've tightened during their decent. He may be letting out a breath of relief once they come out into the small, self-contained room.

There isn't much room for freak-outs though, and now that the flashlight actually has some space to illuminate his focus is very easily drawn away from the lingering panic. Brows furrowed in concentration he lets the light slowly wash over the room, taking in the preparations she's made. He tips his head back some to take in the construction of the ceiling they just came down through, assessing the structural safety of this hole in the ground. She's right, it won't make it into any engineering journals anytime soon, but in a place like this...]

You made this..? [Clearly impressed.]

I've been here since day 24. I like to keep busy. [It wasn't all sexy times with Tyki or patrols. There was a lot of scavenging and digging and creating.]

It took a long time just to get the room ready. [She'd still been holding on to his hand, giving him time to adjust, but she releases it now to move back one of the sheets, revealing a partially disassembled mistletoe bot among other pieces of equipment.] I'm not an inventor really, but I know electronics and I can fix or modify just about anything where I'm from. I figured I could probably reconstruct things I've worked with before with the right parts. And maybe edit other things.

I wanted to figure out the shielding from these, but this bot makes...no sense. [Because it's partially magic-based.]

[He nods, easily letting her slip out of his hand. The initial surprise has faded away in the minute or so that's gone by since they came down here, and by now he's wondering why he ever thought this was surprising at all. It's something she would do, she's a survivor and damn smart to boot.

He takes a step or two towards her, careful not to crowd her too much while still getting a better look at the robot parts. Electronics is not his strong suit and he has a feeling that not even Garcia would be able to make much out of this, if Kitty isn't able to. ]

[Considering everything else he's seen in the last 26 days, this isn't too shocking. In fact, if he was in her position he probably would've done something similar — kind of did, if you count his semi-hidden stash of research. Not the same but similar enough. She's been here much longer. There's no questioning her reasons behind this hide-out.]

It might be too late for that. [A soft smile and then he breaks eye contact. That might've been too much of a confession.] Have you had use for this place yet?

[That fluttering feeling from before? It's back and it brought some friends. In fact she misses a beat or two when her timing is normally very dead on.]

Mm... I come down here to work on things regularly. I only used it as a hiding place once. Not for me, but for Allen. Something had happened with the dimensional stabilizer and the dome was flooded with people. Some of them were from his world and they were looking for him. I let Link come too. Him I blindfolded.

So you're the only one here who knows about it besides me. And maybe Itachi if he's figured it out.

[It is saying a lot, and he knows it. He wouldn't have pressed the issue if she didn't want to say anything, but now that she has... well. He appreciates it more than he can really say right now. They're private people, they play their cards close to the chest and letting someone in like this willingly rather than accidentally speaks volumes.

He shifts in a little closer, lifts his free hand to brush over her neck.]

[They're probably going to be okay. Although this is a lot more isolated and as such easier to separate from the real world, it's also not much more than a hole in the ground and that at least makes him less keen on getting down and dirty.

Pun intended.

Even so the tight embrace is very welcome and he reciprocates it easily, wrapping his free arm around her back and hugging her close. A little bit longer should be okay, right? Just a bit.]
