The 148th Day
Good morning, inmates. It is the 148th day of the third generation. More inmates will be integrated into the facility today, so please be aware of this disruption as you go about your day.

The unexpected snow event has been completely dealt with and, as some of you may have noticed, the shelter has been unsealed.
[You may notice that the ground is still wet, and there will be bots here and there using small devices to dry the ground.] Inmates should now feel free to return to their normal places of residence.

Inmate Setsuna Seiei, the item you requested is available for pick up at the entrance to the shelter in Sector 0.

I assume this is in reference to Princess Estellise.

Yes. It's true that Princess Estellise has committed crimes, objectively speaking. But she never did anything, voluntarily, without the absolute best of intentions. Arresting her means taking a good person out of the world! A good person who has the authority and the will to fix things.

Many terrible crimes have been committed with the best of intentions, inmate Flynn Scifo. This does not change the fact that they are terrible crimes.

Princess Estellise's replacement will do good without also feeling the need to break the law.

Any crimes that she's responsible for [which were not terrible, he doesn't hold her accountable for what the Commandant used her power to do] were done to help people, and she wouldn't have ever voluntarily chosen to break the law. Would you replace an effective leader with someone who can't commit to an action because of its potential costs?

Involuntary crimes are still crimes.

This system would and has replaced 'effective' leaders with those who do not feel the need to commit crimes.

That distinction is arbitrary! I used to think that way, but I now understand that the legal action or the course of least trouble is not always the right action. You have to take circumstances and reasoning and intent into account.

Yes, you have adjusted your point of view to allow for 'some' crimes to not be crimes. You have allowed bias to color your perception. This system remains unbiased.

Maybe the bias is a good thing. It leaves room for things like mercy and reason!

This system is very reasonable. Reason is one of its primary functions. What it does not do is allow crimes to be excused by rationalization.
