(un)Mystery Game Event
Day 185 (next week) is the "Mystery Game Event."

The wardens have been working on something in Sector 6. It's taken a lot of resources which, unfortunately caused the occasional glitch here and there with the environmental systems and inmate processing systems. It was all to get things ready you see. They needed it to be perfect. If it wasn't perfect then accidents could happen. That's also why they needed to test the bars and shielding protocols.

Of course even the best of protection fails sometimes...

The Day 185 will begin normally with Conscienti's welcome message. Later in the dayweek, probably Wednesday or Thursday, a creature will escape from the barrier in Sector 6, followed closely by a swarm of other creatures. This will be signaled by an emergency warning message from one of the wardens telling people where they can get to safety and cautioning them not to harm the creatures. There will also be a mingle where we will play the Mammoth Pillbug with people (and likely break space time as we do it.) People will be welcome to do what they like with the swarm! You can also feel free to make your own posts. One way or another all the creatures will be safely tucked back into Sector 6 by the end of the dayweek.

Mammoth Pillbug
[IMAGE I] [IMAGE II]
• He is naturally armored and possessing extreme invulnerability and durability.
• He can roll at high speeds and smash through solid rock or metal.
• He has long, tusks used for spearing at close range.
• While he is easily frightened and agitated, he is not inherently aggressive.
• When relaxed he will uncoil and there is a softer, furry belly.

Hyena Wasps
[IMAGE I]
• They make a panting sound that resembles (creepy) laughing.
• They are playful and mischievous.
• They enjoy chewing things and tend to leave a mess behind them, but they are harmless until provoked.
• When threatened they will sting, possibly multiple times. Their venom has varying effects depending on dosage and the victim's physiology that may last anywhere from an hour to a day. A victim may experience one or any combination of the following.
— Giggling
— Sweating
— Euphoria
— Relaxation and tired feeling
— Heightened senses: This could include any or all of scent, sight, touch, taste, and/or hearing. It may also slightly increase psychic senses in those who already possess them.
— Hallucinations: This will range from a trick of the light to something very vivid and convincing. These will vary based on the victim's mental state and disposition.

Important facts and stuff
The creatures are inmates! These are sentient creatures whose thought processes and communication patterns are too different for the devices to translate. Telepaths will also be unable to read their minds, though they may pick up on emotions.

You are welcome to injure or be injured! Please make sure you fill out the punishment form if you do.

The wardens' message will announce stiffer penalties for murder during this event. However, if you want your character to do this during the event you may attempt to get mod-permission for it. Please wait until the event posts are up and you see all the information before asking.

The hole made by the Mammoth Pillbug's departure will make a small, jungle-like portion of Sector 6 visible. There is a forcefield and Sentinels will be guarding it. You will NOT be able to pass.

This is not the full reveal. This is only the event reveal. More information about Sector 6 will be coming.

We regret to inform you legal adoption of the Mammoth Pillbug is not currently available. You may, however, pet the fuzzy belly if Pilly lets you.

what sort of emotions would telepathic characters be able to pick up on from the creatures?

Mostly amused and excited from the Hyena Wasps unless they feel threatened. The Pillbug is going to be scared and upset when he comes rolling through that wall, but that doesn't mean he'll stay that way. If someone soothes him he might have feelings of contentment and or confusion since he's out of his environment and you people are weird. ^^

Hello! So, if I wanted Hei to shock a pillbug, would that be enough to get it to unfurl and show it's underbelly or would it's armor be enough to protect them from that?

The armor would protect it to some degree, so while you could technically shock the pillbug to the point of unfurling it wouldn't be easy!

Also please note that there's only one rolling around!

Yep! I did gather that, but I mostly just wanted to know just in case I decide to do something with the pillbug or not. Thanks!

so corpse desecration and assault are obvious No-Nos, but does being stung count as a punishable offense-- like, would it wear off and not require a trip to the hospital, or is it a special case?

Corpse desecration is the sort of thing that would be added to a crime list, but it would not be punished.

Only the crimes listed under IC Rules are punishable. We'll make announcements if this ever changes or is different for an event. The only difference in this event is that if you commit a punishable crime involving a Sector 6 creature there will also be a severe hit to your character's rehabilitation points.

Assault is only valid if the creature requires medical attention of the hospital. You may assume this with the Hyena Wasps if you like. You'll need to check with us for Pilly since there is only one of him.

Being stung once or twice does not require a trip to the hospital, thus not resulting in "injury". If you'd like to have your character stung multiple times (within reason. Make sure you read the facts over and know why your character would agitate them to that degree or that it was the wrong place at the wrong time) then you can assume hospitalization was necessary. Or perhaps the effects of the sting caused additional injury. Like your character hallucinated and walked into a wall and broke their nose or something.

Awwwww, you mean bruce doesn't get to spin the wheel for dissecting hyena wasps? :c Alas, I suppose I will just have to find a different reason in the future for him to spin the wheel.

Although, with regards to injury, would it be a punishable offense if Bruce injured one somehow but didn't kill it? Not that I think he will, but JUST IN CASE.....

Yes. You can assume it was bad enough hospitalization was necessary for the hyena wasp.

and then i was back, oops..............

Not a super important question but! But for the purposes of SCIENCE, once a hyena wasp is dead, I assume there's no way for it to sting someone, either by way of residual nerve conduction that is so not the right phrase or something else? Also, regarding the venom, is it still effective after wasp death should someone accidentally poke him/herself? Or would there not be enough venom injected for that to happen?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]marinanova_mod
2012-09-20 07:37 pm UTC (link)
The process of injecting the venom does require the wasp to be alive, so once it's dead there's no risk of accidentally poisoning yourself on the stinger. There may be some residue left but that wouldn't be enough for any noticable effects.

However, unless the wasp stung someone many many times prior to death there should still be some venom left that would hold the same effects should it be extracted and digested/injected by other means.

Wow I'm super late, but is it cool if Data scans these delightful creatures with his tricorder?

It would show some basic data - their vitals, genetic makeup of the species, the basis of their biology, brain activity, that kind of thing. Of course, seeing as they're not any species that Starfleet has encountered, the tricorder won't have some information and some of these readings could be totally inconclusive.

The tricorder also has a universal translator, which he would also try to utilize, but... that will obviously fail. :D

Sure! Here are the insides of the Hyena Wasp if this helps. We don't have anything like this for the pillbug, but you can kind of put together a pillbug and a mammoth.

Yeah, I figure the translator in the devices is similar to the Star Trek translator. And just like that one sometimes they ran into beings it didn't work for well.

Darmok and Jalad in Tanagra.

Probably should ask this before filling out a punishment form oops.

HOLY SHEET WHERE'S THE BUG SPRAY??

I mean.

I'll be merciful and not get Sasha into the hospital again, but I would like for her to encounter a wasp.

Kohran and Reki will most likely be running for their lives though I haven't decided if I'd like for any or both of them to be injured in the process :|a ...

Oh boy!

Cain is definitely getting stung at some point. He's been holed up for days, not interacting with anyone.

Luke will probably have the wrong instinct to try to fight them if he sees them with no real notice.
