Siren Clam Event Info
Start Date
The Siren Clam Event will be starting on Day 276 (June 16) with an open post from M'gann M'orzz hello_mgann. This event begins gradually. There is NO effect just taking over the moment the daypost hits. Effects should unfurl naturally.

The Pearls and their Effects
M'gann will be distributing beautiful pearls she found in Sector Six. They come in a variety of colors and while anyone near them will feel an instant draw to them, there is nothing overtly suspicious about the pearls.

Each color coaxes a different type of emotion and behavior from the possessor, amplifying it gradually over time if you stay in physical contact with the pearl(s).

Red — Aggression
Orange — Impulsiveness
Yellow — Fear and paranoia
Green — Envy and greed
Blue — Sadness
Purple — Pride
Pink — Happiness
White — Generosity
Black — Emptiness

More than one — This can combine effects, cause confusion, or have unexpected effects.

The Siren Clams
The pearls came from the inmates known as siren clams who can be found along the banks of Aurora Lake in Sector Six. This criminal will look very much like a beautiful, crystalline clam. They hum with a melodic frequency meant to draw others toward them. They want to spread the pearls they create, so everything about them becomes enticing. It just feels better to be near them and difficult to resist taking the pearls within. The clams retain a connection to their pearls using them to feed off the emotional energy in their prey. Emotions: What to Expect: Pacing
Once you are close enough to a pearl to feel the draw you will want one for your very own and you will feel compelled to keep it close. This feeling is strong, but can be resisted. Staying near enough to be in its thrall (about 20 feet) will strengthen this desire.

The effects are very individual, but we do ask that emotions aren't immediately made over-the-top. After all, you have to have room for escalation. If your character is already aggressive and they have a red pearl the clam may well be happy feeding off the normal output for a little while before taking things up a notch.

The extra amplification should be easy enough to live and work with for a couple of days even if it is making itself known. However, if contact goes on for a week or more (and we can't say it will or won't just yet) there could be more unhealthy signs of addiction and emotions flaring beyond coping mechanisms. (See also Gollum from the Lord of the Rings.) PLEASE REMEMBER that day = RL week and week = 7 RL weeks here.

Can I make it into Jewelry?
Absolutely! It will be extremely resilient to any attempts at drilling a hole through it, but there are jewelry pieces available in the stores which can attach to the pearls.

Kill it with Fire?
If your character gets to a point where they want to destroy the pearls they are welcome to do so. They will find them extremely hard to cut, crush, or burn, but not impossible. We will leave methods open ended, but please don't have a regular, non-powered character smashing one with their boot.

Want to go after the clams to prevent the spread of future pearls? You must ask mod permission before killing Sector Six inmates.

Can we get MORE?
M'gann harvested a lot of what was available when she was there, but the clams are already working on replacements. You might find one or two she missed now or check back in about a week for a few. They will keep growing new ones as long as the inmates are in the dome (unless otherwise specified at a later date.)

Crime and Punishment
Your character might start doing things they normally would not. If those things break the IC Rules then they MUST sign up for a punishment! No freebies due to this event.

Opt Out?
Don't get too close to one. This is easier said than done if you're around someone who has one. It will have some second-hand effects on you as well, but they will be weaker. Maybe by the time your character really wants one they'll all be taken.

Can I opt out just because I'm a vampire, demon, robot fish monger, or whatever else might make me immune? No. If you do it for that reason then you could be deciding for someone else in the same situation. Oh, but what if you are the only one in that situation? Still no, because this may well run through an app period. Don't worry, the clams have evolved over time to be able to affect a wide assortment of intelligent life.

Sector Six Inmates
This will also be affecting inmates there. Some of them may already have pearls. For those of you venturing into the sector you can expect some of them acting strangely too.

End Date
Party til' ??? No, really. There is not currently an assigned end date. This is NOT going away when you wake up the next day. We want to see how the characters will solve this problem. Some effects of this may overlap future events. It will be a work in progress and it's just as new for us as it is for you. There will almost certainly be future updates on this, but we will start by asking people to plot on this post and go from there. We will say there are fail safe options and we will not allow pearl-driven OOC behavior indefinitely, but for now we want to see where it goes!

	Yes. It doesn't really matter what species you are or what your current condition is. The bleeding effect may further alter how he behaves under this effect, but it doesn't negate the pearl's effect. (Reply to this) (Parent)

I am going to start with having Artemis and Euphie get pearls because one lives with M'gann so she'd feel the pull right away and the other would be interested in such an offer. And I'll have them both just go with their favorite colors which I think will be fun matches for them. Artemis : Green/Envy/Greed
Euphemia : Orange/Impulsiveness

I'm open to others getting affected as the event goes on though. I think that would be interesting to see the urge incubate.

And eventually I'm sure I'll have one or two who want to work on stopping it. Probably Kitty and Sam, but really it would be interesting to have Yuuri step up more too. Keeping that stuff loose since it isn't known right away. So, more plotting to come down the road I'm sure.

	I'm going to consult with Rica since Reid will be second-hand affected the most before I decide, but I'll let you know which color. Do you think he'd give it to her "today" Day 276? Handwaved? Garcia is never one to say no to colorful things that can be made into funky jewelry! She would likely be drawn to the brighter colors, like red (aggressiveness) which could be interesting! It could be fun if someone wants to plot her doing a simple hack on their communicator out of angry spite several dayweeks down the line, or something like that?

Lacus I will probably leave out of firsthand effects since she's gotten the short end of the stick in events past. If anyone wants to play with secondary effects I am very open to that.

Someone please for the love of god give Clay a pink pearl.

But for real: it's very unlikely that Clay will get his hands on one without the aid of someone else. He'll be most drawn to red all the way through to blue, but will be very likely to just drop the pearl some where and walk away. This isn't his first rodeo with magical spheres that alter perception and emotions.

He's 100000% in helping destroy them, probably one of the few team activities he'd subject himself to.

	I think I want to leave Tieria alone to start. He's been through a lot recently. Second-hand effects can happen, but I want to avoid him getting the full effects for a little while, yet. As for Kitty, Piper, and Duo, they're wide open. I haven't decided, yet, which colors to give them. But, if someone wants to do something specific, I'm willing to make the colors fit the plot. :D (Reply to this)

Oh God I'm giving Phanan blue because I'm terrible but also I feel like it works well with stuff I've been having him do lately. He'll probably hang onto it for awhile because I like the idea of gradual long term effects messing with him.

Ianto probably will not get one (although he's totally open to being hit by secondary effects of people around him) but he will be all in for research and helpful problem solving!
