Wonderland Event!
In an effort to continue the rehabilitation and self-discovery that the mandatory therapy sessions are bringing to the table, the Engineers, by way of the Wardens, have decided to give the inmates a little nudge on the way in the form of a… tea party! Perfectly innocent, right? They provide free food and drink every single day, surely there's nothing different about this?
Only, there is. Of course there is.
Come the morning of Day 244 (November 4th), the inmates will find that picnics have been set up at many locations in the dome. The food carts in Sector 0, here and there in the parks, even at the beach! The robot-run food establishments also have a lavish table set up with fine china and a wide-variety of dainty nibbles — anything you could find at an afternoon tea party from cakes to sandwiches and cookies, with a side of tea, juice or lemonade. These nibbles have been laced with various, odorless, tasteless and colorless chemicals designed to bring forth different, specific effects. They want you to explore all those dark crevasses of your souls, after all. How can you know who you are if you never give in to the rarer urges?
Of course, few things go according to plan. These chemicals can reach the desired effect, but there's also the chance that they'll bring forth less intentional results. Individual differences in biological setup, chemical reactions with the coffee you had for breakfast, perhaps you had the sun in your eyes when you tasted it. Whatever it is, in some cases things may go a little further than what might be considered totally necessary or helpful to your rehabilitation. At least it won't be boring?
What if I want to eat/drink more than one thing?
Stacking the effects is perfectly okay! Naturally, some things work better together than others but it's up to you how you want to mix and match the options.
How long does it last?
The chemicals will be completely cleared out of their systems by Day 245. Other than that you're free to have them last as long or short as you please — perhaps all day, or perhaps a few hours if you want them unaffected for part of the day or want them to try a different effect entirely.
Can my character notice something is wrong?
They most certainly can! Some effects will even be hard to miss! In some instances (like the mood-altering effects) there may not be a clear causal connection between the weirdness and the tea party, so if you want them to remain blissfully ignorant about what's going on that is still very much possible. Please no open network posts specifically warning people to avoid the picnics until a couple of days (IC hours) have passed though!
Can my character notice a theme?
If it's IC of them to know Alice in Wonderland and to put the various clues together, it's totally okay. One of your engineers has taken an interest in human literature after all.
My character is special and would taste/smell/notice the chemical/not be affected!
Doesn't stop the Wardens from figuring out a way around their specialness! The chemical is completely undetectable and made to suit every individual inmates' biological (or mechanical) setup. Being special does not mean you can't participate in the event should you want to!
Opt out?
Just don't have your character eat or drink anything from any of the tea parties! None of the other food, drink or air is affected in any way by the chemical.
The Effects!
The White Rabbit.
Life is so short and time runs out so quickly. Those who have a taste of the White Rabbit tea will soon notice that their thoughts are drawn towards time — maybe this takes shape in a need to do all the things they never got around to doing, or perhaps they're crippled by the thought that time is running out. For some, unfortunate souls, this might have a physical component. Heard of restless legs? Ants in your pants? Whether it's annoying your fellow inmates by impatiently drumming on every available surface or by simply being overcome with the pressing urge to blow off some excess energy, there sure is a lot of restlessness going on here!
The Cheshire Cat
What defines existence? How do we even know any of us are here? Perhaps the world simply disappears as soon as we're not looking at it? There hasn't been a better day for waxing philosophical than today, and you feel an overwhelming urge to share your findings with your fellow inmates, whether they want to hear it or not. If you eat too much, or the chemistry is just a little off, you might find that your own existence comes into question, meaning you aren't always visible. Maybe you're just a voice or a floating smile. Maybe concentrating can bring you back into focus for awhile.
The Caterpillar
Anxious? Worried? Feeling wound up? No more! A bite of this brownie and you'll soon realize that things aren't so bad. Relax, take it easy, put your feet up. Tomorrow can wait — you're sure not worried about the future one bit! If things go a bit too far you just might feel yourself relaxed right into lowered reaction times which can cause all sorts of clumsy accidents, so be careful!
The March Hare
Whoops! Your mind really is all over the place today! Whether your thoughts jump from place to place or you just can't seem to remember what you just said, it's bound to end in hilarity! Just be happy if that's all it is. Some people might not be able to keep track of their limbs. Whether you've turned into a regular butterfingers who drops whatever you're holding or if your legs have gained a life of their own, it's bound to end in disaster!
The Hatter
Who said a piece of cake can't put you in a good mood? Nothing seems impossible after a bite of this strawberry cream cake, unless you believe it to be impossible of course. Don't be surprised if you find yourself cheerfully spouting philosophical remarks or impossible riddles! Quip is the word of the day! You may even feel compelled to make prison less dull. Someone should cheer it up with a party and who better to do it than you? Maybe it's something as simple as bringing a piece of cake to someone you know, or maybe you'll go all out and throw a full-blown impromptu un-birthday party while you're at it? The dome is the limit!
The Dormouse
The world seems dreamlike. Like you can say or do whatever you want and it won't matter, because it's all just a dream. Confess that you love that person you've been admiring from afar? No big deal! Run naked through the streets? Who will ever know? Keep in mind that you'll still know right from wrong and all crimes are punishable! Of course if you have too much or with just the wrong thing you might not have to worry about it because you'll fall asleep. A lot. Anywhere. Everywhere. Surprise! Narcolepsy.
The Queen of Hearts
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Or maybe you haven't had your coffee yet? Whichever it is your fuse is short short short!! Even the most mild-mannered of inmates will feel their temper flare up at the slightest annoyance, often resulting in hilariously over-the-top reactions. So much pent up aggression! This also has the somewhat unwanted possibility of making everyone seem to lose their heads today. Literally. The effects of the cake will make you believe that there's been a mass-beheading — minus the gore, of course. Maybe you've even lost your own head? Gastly! (No heads will actually be lost.)
The Jabberwocky
No matter how eloquent you think you are, everything that comes out of your mouth sounds like gibberish today. Words sneaking in where they don't belong, sentences mixed and mangled beyond recognition… perhaps you're not even making words anymore so much as a stream of ineligible noises? You might even have trouble understanding what others are saying. Did they think up a new set of prison slang while you were asleep?
I have more questions!

Mingle? Plotting?
We'll post a mingle on Monday and you can use this post to plot to your heart's content!
