Title: For Want of an Earring
Word Count: 224
Rating: PG-13
Challenge: Resurrection Drabble – word Ankh
Characters: Remus/Severus
Warning: Unbeta’d.
“How long do you imagine they’ll keep us?”
Severus sipped his tea as looked at Remus over the rim, and rolled his eyes.
“That long, huh?” Remus fingered his small ankh earring, it looked silver but his was platinum. They bought them together in 1977. Severus had insisted they be silver colored because gold didn’t go well with his sallow skin. The platinum had been in deference to Remus’ Lycanthropy; Severus had paid the difference out of his Quidditch pool winnings.
“Your pardon came through from the Ministry yesterday. How many more times do you think they’ll question us?”
“Until we give them an answer they like or until Potter annoys them enough, I imagine.”
“I loved when you told them we were Rosicrucian. The looks on their faces were worth a couple of more days here.”
Severus smirked. “Not everyone believes you can open the gates of death with an earring.”
Remus laughed.
“You laugh, but I’d like to sleep in my own bed.”
“I’d like to sleep in your bed, too.”
Remus had almost gotten a chuckle out of Severus.
“Honestly, why can’t they just accept the Ancient Egyptians knew more about life and amazing feats of engineering than we do? We were obviously saved by our ankh earrings.”
“It probably didn’t hurt that we are wizards.”
“True, it probably didn’t hurt.”
