Jon tossed Stephen the packaged fortune cookie, taking a long drink of his half-fat mocha cappuccino.
"Open it, let's see what it says," he offered, slightly amused. Stephen took it with a raised brow, before finally nodding and freeing the simple cookie from its plastic bag.
"Alright, Jon, but I don't have to accept the fortune if I don't eat the cookie," he warned, and Jon blinked back, slightly incredulous.
"What are you talking about? Cookie or no cookie, you're stuck with your fortune, Stephen."
The brunette looked back at his colleague with a well-placed smirk. "Oh, that's where you're wrong, Jon. Consumption of the cookie seals the deal. If I don't eat the cookie I can't guarantee the fortune applies to me."
Jon rolled his eyes.
"That's ridiculous. Let's just see what the fortune says, alright?"
Quickly breaking open the cookie, Stephen pulled out the paper slip fortune and took only a moment to scan it before his face pulled into a nearly malicious smirk. His big brown eyes moved towards Jon's face, dancing with delight. Jon, taken aback, watched with surprise.
"What is it?" he asked in confusion, tilting his head a bit. Stephen seemed to enjoy this knowledge immensely, stretching out in his chair and tossing the strip across the table. It landed in Jon's plate of rice and sweet and sour chicken, and Jon carefully picked it up in his fingertips, avoiding the sticky red sauce.
Looking down at the paper, Jon cleared his throat before reading aloud.
"You'll get more secure and confident in your relationships with co-workers," he read perfectly in his usual anchorman voice. Throwing down the paper slip, he looked up at Stephen with only further confusion. "What's with the face, Stephen? That sounds like a nice fortune to me."
"It is a nice fortune, Jon," Stephen replied, deadpanned. "Why don't you read it again?"
Jon almost let out a laugh before catching himself. "You'll, ah, get more secure and blah, blah, blah, in your relationships with co-workers." He looked up at Stephen again, fixing him with his questioning gaze. It clearly read "and?".
Stephen's smirk only widened as he leaned forward. "In bed, Jon."
Jon's fork clattered to his plate, something he quickly tried to cover up. Clearing his throat again, he quickly looked to Stephen, then his plate, then Stephen again.
"Well, ah, those things don't really mean anything," he answered, trying to brush it off.
"Don't they, Jon?" Stephen questioned teasingly, and Jon quickly shoved his mouth full with rice. Stephen only smirked, standing from the table. Jon watched him go, quickly swallowing the large amount of rice.
"You're going to eat that cookie, right?"
Stephen glanced back, raising a brow in amusement before turning back and grabbing the pieces of cookie, beginning to snack on them as he coolly walked out, feeling Jon's cool eyes on him (and hopefully his ass) until he was out of sight.
