Owls from Yvon Malfoy, sent very early morning, 14 September 1942...
Warded and sealed appropriately, considering the sensitivity of the information and skill of the recipients:
To Miss Helena Baddock:
Dear Miss Baddock,
My mother was kind enough to inform me that you wrote me a very cryptic letter during my illness and that she responded upon my behalf. I write to you now only to tell you two things.
I don’t want you to write to me any more. Alessio is going to get married, but not to Miss Benedetto, and we have resolved to be faithful to one another. You have not met everyone yet; you have not even met everyone who shares our interests. There must be someone out there who not only enjoys giving you everything but you want, but can also enjoy being or becoming the kind of man who will do those things for his partner. I hope you find him very soon.
The second and most important is that I know you and Portia have made peace. I have not forgotten, though, how you manipulated the situation when she and I quarrelled before. If you betray her again, over another man or anything else, for that matter, I will make sure you regret it. She’s been through enough, and I won’t hesitate to make sure that Verity Umbridge and Eleanor Chang hear the full details of your involvement in that situation if it even looks like you are thinking about playing that kind of trick on her again.
I wish you a long, happy life with some other poor bastard.
Sincerely yours,
Yvon Malfoy
