Letter from Mindred Farryll to Cyneheard Lord Farryll, early morning 14 September 1942 [09.06.08|08:31]

[scripsit]
[Mood |pleased in spite of herself]

Delivered by charm to a parchment on Lord Farryll's writing desk, written with one of Estrid's feathers. As close to non-interceptable and non-detectable as the Farryll blood magic can make it.

Dear great-grandfather,

The parchment wards will have woken you, but in a few hours Estrid would have woken you in any case; she is flying home and there is a good wind tonight, or so I think, she did not say. Nothing is less well than it was before except that something of yellow kindred was here for some of the others, and Estrid has dreamed, she will not yet speak of what.

One of our cousins of whom we have spoken with you is with me, and Estrid will send for her with me. Professor Goyle here, a knight of Lady Malfoy's court, recommends the Forest, if Aegenwulf can come that way still, or perhaps Lady Malfoy can make safe passage for us, if we are on such terms. The other is not coming, I hope he is just not ready, but Estrid thinks not and his sister fears for him, we should speak of this with her.

With honour and love,

Mindred

School owl from Dolores Umbridge to Mario Vincenti, early morning of 14 September 1942... [09.06.08|13:19]

[Mood |irritated]

Securely warded and sealed:

Dear Mr Zabini:

Didn't you get my other note?

I need to know what you are going to do about this thing with Wood. It's so gauche for seconds to actually duel. And besides, Malfoy isn't here.

Talk to me at breakfast or something, this can’t go on.

Sincerely yours,

Dolores Jane Umbridge

Owl from Yvon Malfoy to Amadeo Luna y Salvatierra, dated 14 September 1942... [09.06.08|15:09]

[yvon]
[Mood |hopeful]

In Latin, strongly warded and sealed:

Beloved Father,

I’m well, although I wonder what you must have heard, and it is true that I was ill this weekend, gravely so. But our Father in heaven works miracles even for me sometimes. Alessio has come home to me—he did not marry that girl after all—which is the greatest miracle of all, so far as I am concerned, although I know that Mother Church (who has been blind, deaf and dumb in recent years, and your excommunication can certainly serve as Exhibit A in this case) would not see it that way. We are done being foolish about each other and will no doubt find other things to be foolish about, but hopefully we have learnt enough from this to be less destructive about it.

I’m coming into the hospital today and I hope I will see you there. They are going to try again to heal Alessio, who is again having pain where his leg used to be. I am not well enough to work properly, and at any rate I probably should not; it is not as though I can hope to be objective about him. But I do pray the miracles will keep coming, whether or not we deserve them.

Miss Parkinson, Mrs Zabini in name, my old and dear friend, is also quite ill. I entreat you to remember her as well in prayer, because her mother has proven to be worse than I ever imagined, and you have heard all of my worst imaginings.

Yours in Christ,
Yvon

Owl from Maddie Proctor to Arcadia Peverell, 14 Sept 1942... [09.06.08|17:23]

[maddie_proctor]
[Mood |bemused]

Strongly warded, in reply to her owl:

Dear Arcadia,

Are you quite certain he doesn't know? If you haven't been able to talk freely, he may just be talking around the subject in much the same way you are.

If he really doesn't know, well - I know you can't tell me where you met him but I can make a good guess, and such situations are likely to prompt spontaneous magick even in adults. In the Americas we generally don't do much in those cases beyond solve the problem that caused the initial manifestation; it tends to go away once the person is back to their normal life. People have a remarkable ability to convince themselves that unusual events really didn't happen the way they first thought.

In those rare cases where we've had to explain magick to someone previously unaware of it, we really didn't have any standard way to handle the situation. It all depended on the circumstances and the likelihood that the patient would be able to accept the existence of magick.

If it does turn out that you need his help with your other job, you may have no choice but to wait until you have the opportunity to talk freely and simply tell him. If he already thinks there's something special about his family he shouldn't have too much trouble accepting it.

I'm sorry I couldn't be much more help. Good luck, and remember to be careful out there.

Sincerely, Madeline Proctor
