OPEN THANKSGIVING THREAD
WHO: OPEN TO ALL
WHAT: Thanksgiving, 2018
WHERE: Everywhere.
WHEN: Thanksgiving, 2018! ;)
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Open to all!

HOW THIS WORKS: This post is completely open. Do you want your character to celebrate Thanksgiving; or did you maybe want them to organize a small Thanksgiving celebration at their current safehouse? Did you just want them to reminisce about Thanksgivings past with a family member or friend? That's what this post is for!

If your post is for specific characters only, mark it in the subject. For example, if Lucy and I were to post with Allie and Ollie, we would put Allie and Ollie in the subject. But if we wanted to leave it open for others? We would say Allie, Ollie and OPEN.

Go crazy! And Happy Thanksgiving, folks! ♥

Bennett remembered Lucy having a Thanksgiving or two with her family. He'd been invited once, hadn't he? He didn't remember going-- something about taking the opportunity to fly back home and visit family in England. He liked her family, though. It still made him incredibly sick to think about what Lucretia had had to do. He felt very sad for her sometimes. He knew she loved her family very much. She still did and always would. He just wished that, for her sake, she still had them. He didn't like seeing her sad.

They could still go up on the roof and see if it had actually begun to snow or not.. He looked forward to it. But he wanted to make sure she had dinner first.

Bennett smiled, "We are. We will. But I thought you could use a fancy Holiday-worthy dinner." He shrugged, "your guess is as good as mine. i may or may not have given some bullets away for those, so you'd better enjoy them," he teased, moving to pull his Swiss Army knife from his pocket to open the cans with.

"I would love nothing more than to join you, Lucy," He offered another smile up at her before dropping his gaze back down to the can as he worked at opening it. Thank God for the Swiss, right? The knife could do just about anything. It wasn't as time efficient as electric can openers, etc, but it got the job done. "Because I," he got the lid off of the green beans and held the can over to her, "am very thankful to still have you."

Those Thanksgivings had been really nice, actually. She loved having Bennett over for those holidays. It made him feel part of her family and she liked that he was. Now that he was all the family that she had, she looked forward to holidays with him. Even if the holidays weren't exactly what either one of them were expecting. She'd do her very best not to be sad during this time.

"That's definitely something, thank you," and then she leaned over and kissed his cheek sweetly. Honestly she had no idea how she could ever get through all of this without him. "Giving bullets away just for dinner? Well then I'll eat all of it."

Grinning back at him, Lucretia took the can of green beans and took up her fork. "I am very thankful to still have you too. More than anything else. Really. You're the only good thing I have." Giving his hand a squeeze, she started to eat her green beans. They weren't bad, though she wished they were cooked or warm. Ah well. She had to be thankful for what she had.

Bennett was appreciative of all the times that Lucretia and her family had invited him to spend a holiday, or just a random evening with them. The Lewises were like his second family.

Bennett couldn't exactly help the sheepish smile that he always got when Lucretia leaned in to give him that kiss on the cheek. She always had a way of making him blush. Her kisses were sweet and affectionate, and it was definitely a feeling that he held onto. He nodded gently, "we have to have a decent meal sometimes. Tonight seemed like a good night to do it, and if it took trading some valuables to get you something other than another granola bar to eat, then so be it." Because really. Bennett was tired of Pop-Tarts.

His smile softened when she gave his hand the squeeze, "that's not true. You have your gun. And a nice coat, now. You have some nice things-- but i'm glad i'm included in that bunch," he leaned into her, playfully nudging her with his shoulder, "you're the only good thing I have too. That's why you need to eat and stay healthy, and don't worry about where or how I get dinner," he teased.

It was nice just to be appreciative of anything at all. They were still alive, and not a mindless zombie. That was the best thing.

That sheepish smile was one of the many reasons that she did it, actually. She liked seeing him blush. For someone who was so ruthless at times, and a partner who could take down a man with several hits to the face, or a gun shot, he did have a way of blushing. All it did was make her grin with delight and want to do it again. "Once in a while. Thanksgiving is a very good reason to have a decent meal." Ugh no more granola, or canned rations. Pop-tarts were awful and so very american. One more thing she missed about being back home.

"All right, I'm thankful for all of those things, but you're by far the best. And the only one I truly care about." She nudged him back and grinned. "Oh yes sir," she gave a salute with her fingers. "I promise to eat all of my vegetables. You're as bad as my ex-husband," she grumbled playfully.

They were still alive, and that was a very good thing, indeed. But that also left open the fear and question of whether or not they were immune. As far as he knew, neither himself or Lucretia had ever been bitten. He'd like to keep it that way. But he'd keep right on worrying about what would happen if... He shouldn't do that. It always left him tossing and turning at night. Just worrying. He was a bit of a worrier.

Bennett couldn't help his sheepish smiles and his silly blushing. He was glad that Lucretia didn't seem to mind. She never made fun of him for it either. He appreciated that. He liked to believe that he was the tough guy, James Bond type. They didn't show emotion! --did they? He tried. But he failed every time. It just wasn't who he was. He was the guy that would fight to the death and do just about anything to keep his partner, and the woman he cared about the most, alive.

He smiled, "even if you're as English as they come? And Thanksgiving is a horribly American holiday?" He nodded, "I'm glad you agree," that Thanksgiving, however American it may be, was a great time for even them to enjoy a nicer meal than usual.

Chuckling, Bennett shook his head, "alright... i'll give you that," his smile brightened when she nudged him back. But his smile faltered a bit when she compared him to her ex-husband. Not because she compared him-- but because he always felt bad about what Lucretia had gone through with her ex. Both before, during, and after the outbreak.

Nodding gently, his smile was still present, but just a much more tame one as he glanced downward, thinking quietly.

Worry was definitely something that they were both bad at. Though her worry was mostly for him and not herself. Maybe one day they would stop being able to worry so much. Lucretia thought that it happened to everyone though, that everyone worried just as much as they did. How could they not? Unless they had shut that part of themselves off. That though she could understand.

No, of course she didn't mind. When they were always out on the job, it was always amazing how very James Bond-y that he could be. Always very tough demeanor, not letting anything through. But when it was just them, she liked that he was so very.. lovable. And she did love him, though she wasn't quite sure what that meant, except that he was the only person that she really gave a damn about anymore. So when he acted like that, she couldn't help but gush a little.

"Yes, even if I'm as English as they come and that Thanksgiving is a horrible gluttonous holiday," she agreed with a small smirk. If this was what they got in a nice meal, then so be it. Maybe one day they'd be able to have things like pasta or something. She didn't think they'd ever really have meat again all that much.

Oops, she hadn't meant to do that. Lucy frowned slightly, "I didn't mean it.. I mean I like it much better when you look after me than I ever did with him. You're nothing like him. At all." And she really hoped that he knew that. There was nothing that could compare with the two of them. And she'd never ever think of Bennett in the way that she thought about her ex.

"You're perfect, just the way you are. Honest. I want you to look after me." She put her hand on top of his.

Bennett smiled, letting his eyes search Lucy's expression, "You're terribly English, you know," he teased. He was one to talk. He hoped someday that they could have better foods-- real foods too. He missed having a nice, hot meal. He missed pretty much everything about the real world, except being stabbed by the Russian mafia. He didn't miss that.

He shook his head, "No.. No, it isn't that. I just--" It made him sad for her when she brought up things that hurt her, or that obviously brought out that sad look in her eyes. He sighed, glancing down at the can of cranberries, and reaching for it, "I know I'm not like him. When you talk about your family--" His heart hurt for her. He made a bit of a pouty face, bringing his hand up to set over his heart, as he looked over at her. He didn't know how else to explain it.

"Things that make you sad make me sad..."

He did smile, though, when she told him that he was perfect just the way he was. He shook his head with amusement, "don't be ridiculous. And I'd be happy to look after you. I always do anyway." His eyes fell back to her hand, over his own, and yeah, he could feel his heart flutter a bit, but he wasn't going to do anything about it. Not now, anyway. They were talking about her ex-husband, of all things. It wasn't exactly a kiss-worthy moment or anything.

He moved to turn his hand over to take hold of hers, lacing his fingers with her own as he reached over to set his other on top of hers, sandwiching it between both of his.

Lucretia promptly stuck her tongue out at him and nudged him lightly with her foot. "I don't care how long I'm in America, I can't imagine being that American." Not that it was a bad place. She really loved America actually, but deep down, she was always going to be British. No, she didn't really miss getting chased by the mafia and having to go undercover and all of that bad stuff. The rest though, yes definitely.

It seemed to be a relief to her that he didn't think that she was thinking he was like her ex. "Good, I'm glad you don't think like that. And when I talk about my family, I only want to think of my daughter. I don't want to think about him at all." She shook her head a little, and sighed. "I don't want you to be sad, because you being sad because that makes me sad, just makes me sadder." Not that that made any sense.

That's why she didn't talk about it, because she didn't want to be sad. She didn't want him to be sad either. "No more talking about that, okay? Even though it's thanksgiving, I don't want to mope."

Really, how did she ever exist without him? She didn't have any idea. "You do, I'm grateful for that. So very grateful. And I'll always look after you, too. I don't want you to ever think it's one sided." That was the last thing that she wanted. When he put her hand in between both of his, she gave his hand a squeeze and smiled just a bit brighter at him.

"Now let's eat so we can go up on the roof, shall we?"

He chuckled, "You've a long way to go to ever be considered American, Luce. So there's no problem, there. You're good." And no, America was not a bad place at all, and neither was being American or in their army. But Bennett was a true Englishman, and he always would be.

Bennett didn't miss being chased either. Or stabbed. He never wanted to be reminded of that near-fatal incident again. Though, he had the scars to do that. But if it weren't for that, he might not have still been around, today? He had been in the hospital, in a mini coma, when the outbreak happened. He didn't remember a damn thing.

He nodded, "but I know when you talk about your daughter, you get upset. I'd much rather see you happy." He bit at his lip, watching her. What she said had made sense to him. But then.. he understood her better than anyone, really. And Vice versa.

"Right," his smile returning, he gave Lucretia another nod, "Deal. No more talking about it. We'll just enjoy the holiday, and our cranberries." He nodded, letting the pad of his thumb brush along the backs of her knuckles, "I still don't know what you want to go up to the roof for. It's quite cold, up there."

"Oh thank god for that," she mumbled over dramatically, wiping her forehead with her hand from fake sweat and making a whew kind of sound. No, America wasn't all that bad, but still she liked to tease. Though she probably wouldn't do this in front of actual Americans.

Even though they were running from something other than whack jobs with guns, still she didn't miss it. She would make sure that nothing like that ever happened to either one of them ever again. She'd been so scared when he was in his mini coma. One of the more scarier times in her life.

When he actually brought up her daughter, she glanced away and let out a breath. "I'm not.. upset. I mean I'd much rather be happy too. I'm mean, thinking of her makes me happy. It's just hard to show." Asking her to smile and laugh was going to take more time. She needed more time to grieve, and she didn't know if it would ever happen.

With her hand still in his, she got up to her feet and held onto the cranberries. Then she started up towards the roof, dragging him along behind her. "Wait, you mean this was my idea and not yours? I thought this was your idea," she teased.

Bennett smirked, watching Lucretia get all over dramatic, "indeed." She was a little bit silly sometimes, but that was one of the things that he liked about her. She was fun. And funny. She always knew how and when to make him smile.

And Bennett didn't blame her at all for the incident. It wasn't something that could be helped. It wasn't expected. A complete surprise attack on their end. Like an ambush that neither of them had expected. There was no way Lucretia could have kept it from happening, and Bennett knew that. He was just glad nothing bad had happened to her in Russia. He would have never forgiven himself for that.

When Lucretia glanced away, he worried his lip with his teeth and reached over to gently set his hand on her back, letting his thumb lightly pet against her, in hopes to calm her a bit, "Luce, I'm sorry," he hadn't meant to make her feel awkward or upset. "You don't have to show anything.. I just want you to be happy. I don't like seeing you upset."

Bennett watched Lucretia and moved to get up to his feet, once she got up to start up toward the roof. He didn't object, and followed along with her, letting her pull him toward the stairs. "My idea?" He chuckled, "why would it be my idea to go to the roof, other than to be alone with you?" Oh, woops. Did he say that out loud? Of course he did!

Everyone could be a bit silly. But she liked being a bit silly. If they couldn't be silly, then what else could they do? Lucretia liked making him smile, and making him smile always made her smile in return.

As long as he was okay, that was what had mattered in the end. She had been so surprised when that had happened, and she'd been so worried. They'd gotten through it of course, but she was just glad that he had come through it all.

It did help to calm her a bit. And she was always grateful for him, no matter what. "Oh don't be sorry, Bennett. It's fine." She gave him a small smile. "I know, and you make me happy. I don't want to be upset either. It's fine." Really, as long as she had him, she would be happy. That was all there was to it.

"Yes it was your idea! You said it yourself. You just want to be alone with me." She turned her head and winked at him. She didn't know if he was being serious or not, but she didn't mind flirting with him. And if he really did want to be alone with her, so much the better. Once up on the roof, she made sure the door didn't lock behind them and glanced around. "It's lovely up here."

Bennett never minded it one bit. She could be silly all she'd like. The great thing about Lucretia was that she knew when to be serious too. Although, that was what came with being a member of British Intelligence, right? You had to know when to put your game face on, and when you could goof off. Lucretia was a master at that.

Bennett was definitely okay now. It had been a good couple of years since the incident had happened, and he'd been in the hospital--or just out of it when the outbreak occurred. All was well, now, though.

He listened carefully to her words and nodded, eventually letting his hand fall away from her back again. Lucretia was really the only one that knew him best. They'd spent a lot of time together, they were partners, and he trusted her with his life. She may not have known everything about him, but she knew him better than anyone else.

He smiled gently at her wink, and tucked his hands into his coat pockets, before giving a look around once they were to the roof. Bennett adored Lucretia, and so what if he did want to be alone with her on the roof? It was peaceful up here. And the snow. "Well, yes, now that you have a proper coat," he teased her.

Smiling, he started over toward the edge of the building to glance over the side with curiosity, "I've always liked the snow," he began. "how awful, though, that something so beautiful has to fall on a world that has become so ugly." He paused with thought, and then glanced back to her, still thinking a moment.

"Do you suppose the infected could freeze? I mean," he turned back to her, "what's something that could wipe them out? They're already dead, I understand that.. but.. at what point do they cease to keep going? What is the lifespan of a bloody zombie?"

At least she wasn't one of those people who didn't take anything seriously. She honestly didn't get how people like that survived in a world like this. However there were some. But she knew when to joke and when not to. She almost always had her game face on, but it was nice to be able to joke.

It was definitely natural, how close the two of them had become. How couldn't they when they were together through this horrible thing. It was just the two of them now, and that was kind of the way she liked it. No offense to anyone else, but she felt safer when it was just the two of them. Because she trusted him.

Lucretia definitely didn't mind being alone with him and the snow. "Oh hush. I would have come up here without a proper coat and you know it," she said with a teasing huff of her own.

She followed him over to the edge and gazed down. "I know.." she sighed a little and then looked over at him. "I don't know. I mean other things don't seem to slow them down. They don't get tired. But if their bodies are literally frozen.. maybe they can't move?" It was something to consider.

"Not if I could have helped it, you wouldn't've," he gave a look over at her, and tucked his hands into his coat pockets. "But at least you've got yourself a nice coat, now, and none of that matters." He eyed her, "but I know you would have attempted to come out here, coat or not." Because she was just as stubborn as he was.

"Hm," he glanced back out toward the streets below, thinking quietly as he watched the snow fall on the rooftops and well, zombies, and whatnot. He nodded, listening carefully to her, "so if you had a frozen zombie-- what would happen when it thawed out? Would it still be able to function?" Also something to think about.

He smiled back over at her, "do you suppose it will get that cold, this year?" It was pretty chilly, out, then. He wouldn't be surprised if they could stumble across a frozen zombie or two. But then what?

Lucretia looked pretty in the snow. She always had. Russia was nice because of the snow, and she looked just as lovely now as she did then. Studying her a good moment, Bennett eventually turned his gaze back out over the city.

"I've been meaning to tell you something, Luce... I've just not found the correct time or place to do it." But tonight seemed like as good a night as any. "You mean a whole lot to me, and-- I know that under the circumstances in which we're together, and you're not-- you know," he looked back to her, "with your family is...well, difficult, and not the easiest thing for you... And you don't have to say anything, but--- I love you, Luce. A-and I'd do anything for you, you know that. I just..." He nodded, keeping his focus on her, "I love you."

Many ways. All ways. She was his partner, his friend, and anything else she wanted to be. But he was loyal to her, and there really wasn't any other woman that he was interested in in any sort of way. Just Lucretia. She knew him and understood him better than anyone.

Giving a dramatic little sigh and shook her head in amusement. "I know, I know. I'd be in very big trouble. Then you would have had to spank me." Not that she wouldn't have enjoyed that. Clearly. "But I do have my coat on so you have to ask before you spank me if you want to." Then she smirked at him.

Maybe this wasn't the best thing to be thinking about when they were trying to be nice and cute up here on the roof. "I suppose so. I mean I guess it's just like if the cold froze the infection, or just the body parts." She shrugged some. Then again, she wasn't a doctor.

Though she noticed that he was looking at her, she tried not to blush and kept looking out at the city instead.

When Bennett brought up a serious subject, she finally turned to him, eyebrows raised and waited for him to finish. There wouldn't be any interruptions until he was done. He loved her. He actually loved her. Not that she really doubted it before exactly. It was just really the first time that he had said it.

Lucretia smiled at him brightly and then moved quite a bit closer to him. "Oh Bennett.." she leaned in and pressed her lips against the corner of his mouth, near his cheek. She kissed him there and let her lips linger for quite a while. "I love you too. I really do. You're my family now. You are my family and even if we weren't going through all of this bad stuff, you would still be my family. I don't ever want to lose you." It would kill her.

Though she wasn't quite sure if he was saying he was in love with her, she knew that in a way it didn't quite matter. They loved each other and that was that. She wasn't interested in anyone else either. It was just the two of them as far as she was concerned.

Bennett smirked and shook his head, "Lucretia, no," he began rather matter-of-factly, turning to give her a look as he reached up to adjust his glasses, "because you'd enjoy it more that way," he teased, his smile softened as he studied her.

Maybe not the best thing, but it was part of every day life now. It belonged in the conversation as much as anything else did, right? These days, anyhow. Bennett nodded, "so why haven't they froze? Especially the floaters in the water? The ones that bloke keeps briefing us on, over near Liberty Island. They're dead. And I understand that temperature isn't necessarily going to affect them, but physically, there comes a point when something is frozen, end of story. I can't really understand it."

And of course he loved her. Did she ever have any doubts? But yes, it was the first time that he'd said it, because he wasn't sure she'd understand. He still wasn't entirely certain she'd take it very well, but it seemed to be so far so good.

He let his eyes fall shut, when Lucretia leaned in to press that gentle kiss against the corner of his mouth. It made his heart flutter in his chest, and he opened his eyes back to her once she pulled back again to tell him that she loved him too.

He smiled softly, moving to bring his hand up to lightly set against her cheek, his thumb petting over her warm cheek, "You're not going to lose me. No matter how hard you could possibly try," he grinned, "you're stuck with me. There's no getting rid of me at this point."

In return, she batted her eyes at him and gave him the most innocent look that she could possibly muster. "Enjoy it more? What ever could you be talking about? I wouldn't enjoy spanking. That's a bad bad thing. I couldn't possible," she said dramatically, and tried really hard not to laugh.

Perhaps that was just their relationship. They could have this odd thing where they talked about zombies one minute, and love the next minute. It was fine with her. "Hmm. Well I guess that's the wrench in my theory, isn't it? I mean besides that the water in the ocean doesn't actually freeze except once in a great while on top. Salt water's really hard to freeze. But maybe they don't. Maybe the virus prevents it." Or whatever it was.

No, Lucretia never had any doubts about him loving her. It was just a little odd to hear him say it. Really nice, but odd. How could she not take it well? She'd have to be heartless to be angry at him saying that. And she didn't think she was all that heartless.

Eventually she had to move back, for fear of moving her lips any closer to his. Her cheek nuzzled into his hand and she sighed. "That's good to know, because you're never getting rid of me either. We're stuck to each other. Like glue." Slowly she slid her arms around his waist and hugged him as tightly as she could possibly manage. Her head rested against his chest, and Lucy sighed again.

Bennett eyed his partner, "You're an awful liar, you know that, don't you? Thank God you were never taken hostage or prisoner and interrogated and tortured. You wouldn't make it," he teased, of course. But really. Silly Lucretia.

Well, that was life, these days, wasn't it? Talking about zombies one minute, and something else the next. It was part of every day conversation, now. Nothing new. Bennett listened carefully to what Lucretia was saying, and shrugged, "no earthly idea. Whatever the reason for them not dying off is getting on my last nerve."

And no, Lucretia was not heartless at all. Bennett knew better. He'd seen her little moments of kindness and care. She couldn't hide those from him.

When her arms went around him, Bennett brought his own around her to return the warm hug, holding her close. The warmth was a nice contrast with the cold night air. "Like glue," he repeated in agreement, moving to lean down and brush a kiss against her brow.

Though for a moment longer, Lucretia tried to look as innocent as possible, finally she gave up and started to laugh. "Oh can you imagine? I'd be laughing the whole time and then they'd have the secrets out of me in no time." She grinned a bit. Oh she liked it when he teased her like that.

Very true. If this conversation had taken place before everything, well then someone would think they were crazy. Now it was just conversation. "Me too," she agreed with a nod.

Really she didn't want to hide those things from him. Not at all.

Hugging was nice. She didn't do nearly enough of it anymore, especially with him. Perhaps that would be her New Years resolution, if she had one. To hug him more. Giving him another tight squeeze, she didn't seem intent on letting go any time soon. She just smiled up at him. "Merry Christmas. Too bad there's no mistletoe, or I'd kiss you properly."
