MARCH BONDING: OBSTACLE COURSE

OBSTACLE COURSE

If anyone came out early to watch, the would have spotted Mr. Thorn lugging out four large trunks, each color coded to match the four houses of Gooseberry. They may seem unusually small, but with some impressive magic, they create an unbelievably complex obstacle course right before the eyes of the student sneaking a peek at what their afternoon holds.

There are four sections, modeled after Coppertale, Ribbonfin, Ebonhide and Azurcrest.

Coppertale: The area named for Coppertale is a straight run across ground obstacles, testing your initial agility and strength. There are tires to run through, jumps to make, and logs to climb. It’s in an area that’s flat and open, like the fields surrounding Coppertale.

Ribbonfin: Then, the course leads the students to the stream, where there are two crossings they must make. Once across woven ropes, and the other jumping from one floating wooden platform to the next. Be careful, or you’ll fall in the water!

Ebonhide: The obstacles begin to rise into the trees, where students must cross bridges and climb ladders to progress. The heavily forested area continues to provide an exciting challenge for athletic students.

Azurcrest: Now the heights are truly dizzying as the obstacle course reaches high into the treetops! There’s a charm in place that catches any students who lose their footing, letting them fall quickly for ten feet, before lowering them softly to the ground. It does sometimes get quirky, and drop students roughly for the last foot or two.

Zipline: When it’s time to finally get your feet back on solid ground, there’s an exhilarating zipline that will take you back.

OBSTACLE COURSE RULES
  1. There are three paths presented to students:

    • Challenging: This is for students who really want to test their abilities. Your character may wipe out. There’s a very slight chance of injury. This path is the most difficult, but each successful run will count as THREE points for your the character’s house. They will be in the running for the best time.
    • Normal: Slightly challenging, suitable for the a very fit teen. The hardest obstacles will be skipped, and there’s a lower chance of wiping out, and no chance of injury. Each successful run will count as TWO points for your the character’s house. They will be in the running for the best time.
    • Easy: This is basically just a fun walk through the course. The most challenging aspects will be on the level of a standard jungle gym, and you still get to go on the zipline! There’s no chance of failure or injury. Each successful run will count as ONE point for your the character’s house.

  2. When you post to participate in the obstacle course, you will receive your character’s time, and whether or not they completed the course.

  3. This means there are two competitions: best time and most athletic house.

  4. Your character is encouraged to at least take the easy path!

  5. Cecil’s Rule: You may skip the portions of the course with heights.

  6. Rafael’s Rule: If participating in the course would possibly be dangerous for you, Thorn may make you sit out. Anyone who is injured or ill will be asked to not participate, or only participate in the easiest route.

  7. Sy’s Rule: You may not push, shove, punch, trip, or otherwise harm the other students on the course.

  8. There are no prizes because the staff wants you terrible children to stop competing, you’re all winners!

  9. There’s a snack table that’s got lots of healthy options, like veggies and sandwiches, fresh water and sports drinks. Each house has their own little base camp where their Head of House is waiting.

  10. How is the winner calculated? When a participating character posts to their house's base, a mod will RNG a time for each character, and whether or not they complete the course. A house’s score is the total score of all their participating members, and the highest house score wins. There will also be a best time competition for Challenging and Normal runs. You have until Monday, March 13 at 11:59 PM MT to post to your house's base and have your character be counted.

Please fill out this form and post it to your house's comment to participate:

How athletic are they?:
Number rating: On a scale of 1-10, rate their performance.
Anything else?: Do you want them to fall in the water? Do they make it to the high trees, freeze up, and need to be helped down by a teacher?

» Ebonhide: They could be studying right now.

» Ribbonfin: Really, what matters most is that everyone had a good time.

» Azurcrest: Winning is FUN!!!

» Coppertale: Will the most competitive house take home the pointless non-prize?

» Sidelines: Here there are snacks and plenty of space to socialize!

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Rosy the Ribbonfraud

2017-03-10 02:54 pm UTC (link)
Name: Rosy Stoker
House: Ribbonfin
Difficulty Level: Challenging
How athletic are they?: She might not be the most athletic Stoker twin, but she's got endurance, coordination, and stubborn determination, which I'd say counts for something. Like a B+. If grading athleticism was a thing.
Number rating: 8? Ima say 8.
Anything else?: She believes in you Ribbonfin. Don't let her down (if you let her down it's okay she'll still love you) (but still try not to let her down).

Pippa!

2017-03-10 02:57 pm UTC (link)
Name: Pippa Nightingale
House: Ribbonfin
Difficulty Level: Easy
How athletic are they?: Pippa is energetic but not particularly athletic. She has the stamina to keep going, but her lack of coordination means she's quite likely to trip or fall off things. BUT IT'S THE TAKING PART THAT COUNTS.
Number rating: 5
Anything else?: Pippa gets her foot stuck in the woven rope bridge and needs the help of [Volunteer] to free herself!

Name: Calvin Evercreech
House: Ribbonfin
Difficulty Level: Easy
How athletic are they?: Like, not at all. Calvin is skinny and gangly, and as soon as he's asked to do anything truly athletic it becomes clear that he got a growth spurt recently. He's not used to being tall.
Number rating: 3
Anything else?: He's only doing this because he has to. Why can't the adults just let him and Cole sit on the sidelines and be lazy nerds.

Number rating: Like 3. He doesn't care. This is a nominal effort. Rosy can take the glory.

Number rating: 3. Even though it's on easy. 3.
Anything else?: I know it says no injuries, but he's gonna get his foot caught in the lip of the tire and trip. :| He's gonna skip the Azurcrest portion because it's Too High but mostly he's just Too Tired.

Kurt Wolfhart, who does not turn into a dog
[info]lovekurts
2017-03-10 03:52 pm UTC (link)
Name: Kurt Wolfhart
House: Ribbonfin
Difficulty Level: Easy.
How athletic are they? Between 'kinda' and 'sorta'; his hobbies involve a fair amount of exertion/manual labour/etc. so he's more sinewy than you'd expect him to be. He punched Sy Stoker that one time? That's got to count for something.
Number rating: 5. He'd rather try to enjoy the activity than challenge himself or win!
Anything else? He's focused on ~having a good time!~ and ~helping his peers!~ whenever he can. They don't even have to be in Ribbonfin. (This is assuming that helping others is allowed.)

How athletic are they?: More than most people probably anticipate. Despite being a generally sedentary person that would rather paint or draw or daydream than be up and moving, Cole has a considerable amount of natural athleticism and could probably be an exceptional athlete...if he wanted to try. Which he does not.
Number rating: 5

Isaiah was talked into this by Chris
[info]icovington
2017-03-11 10:32 am UTC (link)
Name: Isaiah Covington
House: Ribbonfin
Difficulty Level: Normal. He SHOULD pick easy, but he's got some pride, here.
How athletic are they?: Not very. He walks everywhere, as you do at Gooseberry, and he rides horses (I mean, look at who his uncle is, it's a Thing with his family,) but he doesn't otherwise participate in physical extracurriculars or sports or anything. He keeps himself in shape because he's got his pride, but he does the minimum to do so and it's as much because he's blessed with a good metabolism as any real work he puts into it. Despite what his PB looks like with his shirt off.
Number rating: If he did the easy course I'd give him a five, but he had to go and be proud, so 3.
Anything else?: He's doing it with Chris, who has stated he isn't going to let him fall. Do with that what you will.
