SOPHOMORE SEANCE

Micah St. Clair proposes a seance in the woods with his classmates. Despite teachers re-emphasizing the ban on the Grotto only a few days before, sophomore students sneak out after dinner to make their way to the Grotto. Everyone is warned to avoid attracting attention from non-sophomores or getting caught. ALSO BRING YOUR COOLEST SEANCE CLOTHING GUYS WE'VE GOT TO SET THE MOOD!!!!!

In the middle of the Grotto clearing, Micah's thrown down blankets over the snow, and conjured two small tables. One table has lit candles for mood lighting and a bowl of burning herbs (or like, whatever, Micah grabbed something nice-smelling from the greenhouse). The other has a Ouija board and planchette.

Everyone who wants to COMMUNE WITH THE FOREST SPIRIT is asked to gather around the table and lightly place their fingers on the planchette. One person asks a question at a time, so as not to confuse THE SPIRITS. They can stay and ask questions until the prefects (hi Ree!!!!) determine that it's nearing curfew and everyone needs to go back to camp.

THE RULES

SOPHOMORES ONLY. No snitching and no party crashers! :(((

NO JOURNALS. We're setting an atmosphere here!!!! This also means that everyone is FORBIDDEN from discussing the seance with anyone outside of the sophomore class (although of course Micah can't actually enforce this).

TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY or get out of the circle! You're going to ruin the ~~supernatural vibes~~ they've got going here.

DON'T PUSH THE PLANCHETTE. We're supposed to be communing here!!! (That said, if a character is trying to push for a specific answer, just say so, but for the sake of fairness, I'll be limiting how many times anyone can manipulate the planchette.)

YOU CAN ASK ANYTHING YOU WANT. No making fun of anyone's question!!! Everyone's allowed to ask a ghost if there's anyone who wants to kiss them. :(

» ArrivalS: For making plans, sneaking out, or greeting your friends at the Grotto.

» Observers: For those of you who are total wusses and don't want to MAYBE get possessed.

	Micah's the first person here, of course, and he sets up the atmosphere. Like, what is this? Sage? It's probably sage? Whatever, we're burning it now!!! He will also be reminding everyone about Ouija rules. "We need to bring POSITIVE ENERGY to the circle," he keeps saying. "Or else you're INVITING EVIL SPIRITS into your HOME." Except that Micah TOTALLY dragged Will and Jeffy with him the second he left the cabin. "SAFETY IN NUMBERS!!!!!" he proclaimed (but quietly, so no prefects would catch them). "But seriously guys you can't let me walk to the Grotto by myself, I might get KIDNAPPED or something."

Also, he made Will and Jeffy hold the blankets and tables and stuff. LOOK, Micah needed ONE HAND FREE for his camera.

Ana has never actually been involved in a seance, but considering all the weird things that happen around camp, she's on board with believing anything is possible. She's not nearly as apprehensive about this as maybe she should be, because even if there is a ghost, ouija boards are still for fun right? And this is a fun thing to do with friends.

Taking a sniff as she arrives, she looks around. "What is that smell?" She's grinning, though, obviously ready to get started.

"Suuuuuusaaanaaaaaa," Micah intones in his most ghostly voice as he sneaks up on her, which isn't really sneaking when he's talking and holding a candlestick in one hand and his camcorder in the other. "And uhhh I don't know? Like rosemary or something. Thyme????"

(For the record, Micah's idea of a seance outfit is apparently to deck himself like an Oscar Wildean Victorian dandy in a velvet suit jacket he clearly stole from Drama club, which... maybe isn't inappropriate but it does serve to make him look ridiculous.)

	Frankie's more than happy to tag along with her, even if she's far less seance-chic. There may or may not be hand-holding - but she's a big fan of the buddy system even when they're not attempting to summon potentially malevolent spirits. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Essie is tagging along with this group as well, armed with Diego's crucifix and a little bit of knowledge. Like always, she's a mixture of SUPER EXCITED and RATHER ALARMED. Especially since Pippa suggested this is maybe not the best idea. (She continued to insist she was just writing a paper when she saw Diego. The secret's safe, guys!!!) Calvin (& Cole & Others?)

Calvin arrives with Cole, and they both look exhausted. Calvin's not sure why he stubbornly decided to stay up with Cole, but it had a lot to do with knowing he was probably going to be up until 5:00 AM working on a dress for Coralee. And so he stayed awake and studied, or read, or watched Cole work. Watching a boy sew shouldn't have been something that could keep Calvin's attention for hours, but somehow did anyway. Calvin made it until about 3:00 AM when he finally gave in. He's still not certain how much longer Cole was awake.

And then he had a long morning continuously nudging Cole to keep him awake in class. Calvin was running on pure bitterness all day, but Cole didn't have anything like that to keep him going. Studying in the atrium turned into napping in the atrium which turned into waking up with Cole's head on his shoulder which turned into Calvin panicking only slightly. It was really admirably subtle, he thinks.

But here they are. Calvin is not bringing much positive energy, but he is dressed in a black cloak with a hood that adds a lot to the atmosphere. It is entirely by accident. He's just very wizardy.

Cole isn't bringing much energy in general. While the nap this afternoon helped, he's still tired after his late night and everyone can likely see it. He's quieter than usual and more prone to spacing out more than usual (which is saying something) and seems to always be yawning or rubbing at his eyes or slowly listing to one side until his shoulder hits Calvin's. But it was worth it because he'd finished the dress and it was beautiful. And Coralee had liked the dress. She'd even sent him a note back (with a heart on it!!!). So being is tired all right.

He'd forgotten about seance clothes entirely and stands beside Calvin in a dark hooded sweatshirt (hood now up in a failed attempt to fit in with the others), jeans, sneakers, and a wool beanie. After several long moments spent in silence, dark eyes half-lidded and staring off into the darker trees, he asks abruptly without turning to look at Calvin, "....Do you think anything will show up?" So, at least, he's not just asleep standing up. He doesn't sound concerned, really, just mildly curious.

Calvin doesn't pull away when Cole periodically bumps shoulders with him. He's on edge, but he desperately doesn't want to show it. The other sophomores are frustratingly brave, or so Calvin is convinced. Everyone here probably belongs in Gryffindor. Yes, all of you.* Can they tell Calvin's afraid? Probably.

It's pretty out here, though, with the snow and all the naked trees. It reminds him a little of one of his father's paintings hanging in the hall of their home. Except that one is during the daytime, and lacks the ~*spooky*~ atmosphere Micah has so enthusiastically designed. Calvin thinks he sees the hint of a genuine film maker in him when he's like this. Surrounded by happy friends, Calvin lets his guard down. Just a little.

Except when Cole speaks, Calvin still jerks, startled. "O-oh," he says quickly, covering his own nerves. "We might. After all, we already know there's something out here." A pause. "Are you nervous at all?"

* Except for Pippa who is basically the second coming of Helga Hufflepuff.

Wait, we were supposed to wear a seance outfit??? Pippa turns up in her usual multicoloured hash of clothing, including a knitted bobble hat, with her hair in pigtails. She is dressed for WARMTH and COMFORT and also she's wearing sensible shoes in case she needs to run away. But seriously, after tripping on her Merida dress the last time, there is NO WAY she's wearing anything she can't easily move in.

Her eyes are twice as wide as normal, and she's uncharacteristically quiet. Pippa isn't sure this is a good idea... but everyone else seems to think it'll be okay? And she doesn't want to miss out? Just in case they DO get answers?

She arrives with [Volunteers!] because there's no way she's trekking to the Grotto alone.

	Pippa is glad to have her best friend to cling to, because she knows Essie won't make fun of her for maybe clinging a little too tightly. Hazel is really excited about this seance partially because she's never done one before and partially because she's seriously curious about what's in the woods! She rolls up looking absolutely pumped, unsurprisingly, and immediately starts to investigate their set-up. Sadly she doesn't really own anything ~spooky~ to wear - are black polka dot tights seance-y enough? She thinks they are.
