PLOT CALENDAR: January
Experimenting with a new rule: each player is limited to one plot for the first 6 hours. After that, the only limit is one plot per character.

JANUARY
SUN
1
Happy New Year! In the first moments of 2014, students staying over break are treated to an experimental fireworks show by Mr. Oakes. He floats an empty boat out into the lake, and sets off the fireworks remotely with magic. Although the show is astounding, it ends with the boat getting completely immolated. The last highlight of the show is watching the burning boat slowly sink into the murky water.
MON
2
Students are picked up by the magical buses and are brought back to Gooseberry. (There will not be an IC/OOC, but you can check out September for how it works.)

Casey Patterson decides to celebrate “Run It Up the Flagpole and See If Anyone Salutes” Day by stealing the boxer shorts of Dominic Tremblay and, well, they run them up the flagpole.
TUE

Classes resume.

🌟 At breakfast, Tabitha Ogletree gets her acceptance letter to Julliard and screams in shock, before blushing bright red and begging forgiveness for giving people a surprise.
WED
4
A heavy fog sets over campus. Visibility is limited to about 30 feet. When you look across the fields or down a path, you can see other students heading to and from classes, but every once in awhile, the silhouettes don’t move right. Sometimes, you think you can see someone standing out in the woods through the fog. It always turns out to just be trees.

Henrietta Gray is chatting with the portraits in the entryway to the sauna, and makes an unusual deal with them. If a visitor can either sing them a song or recount to them a story (a TV show episode usually does the trick), the portraits will be more forgiving of indiscretions. Etta shares this trick with their fellows!
  • From now on, if you bring a guest who is not a prefect or captain, the chance of getting caught lowers to 15%.

  • If you decide to have sex in the sauna, the chance of being caught has lowered to 25%.

  • If you take this plot, you are obligated to make a ward to the Head Boy, Head Girl, prefects, and captains to let them know. If you don’t, then Meggie will force Rafael to take it, and it’s going to be very unsexy.

MONTHLY BONDING ACTIVITIES for all seniors.

In honour of Gooseberry High’s tenth year anniversary, Mrs. Bloom announces at breakfast they will be inviting everyone’s parents/guardians to the school in order to become acquainted with their children’s teachers and how they spend their days. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place in two weeks, and your families have been notified by owl of all the details. If your character will be participating in this event, please fill out this form.

LARP Club returns from break to learn that King Elmasry has finally found a wife—but she turns out to be an evil enchantress who charms Reece Downing to serve her! Christopher Park engages them in a fierce battle, and would've killed Reece... if not for the quick actions of Gabriela Flores, who destroyed the magical amulet and freed them from the spell. The enchantress is neutralized, and our heroes save the day once again!

🌟 Casper Kim passes out during morning Quidditch practice, and ends up having to stay overnight in the infirmary.

In the middle of the afternoon, a blizzard sets in, stranding all the students in the lodge after dinner. The teachers pull out enough sleeping bags and couches for everyone to get comfy enough to spend the night. (IC/OOC to come.)
  • That evening, Philippa Nightingale sees something outside in the snow, looking through the windows at the end of a long hallway. The teachers assure them that it was just a bear, but Pippa is certain the arms and legs were too long…

  • That night, Cressida Quayle swears they saw someone outside the window—or at least, the shape was humanoid. Theresa Noble hears someone trying to open a locked door into the lodge. Hazel Keating on the third floor hears something walking around on the roof.

  • Everyone has trouble sleeping, and even the most courageous students feel unsettled.
MON

The blizzard lets up. All students are allowed to return to their cabins by the afternoon. Classes take place as normal, even if you didn’t get a shower or had to sleep in your clothes.

In Music this week, Ms. Thrussell teaches the students about magical compositions that inspire vivid emotional responses. She focuses on a masterpiece by Velasco Morales, composed in the late 1700s. Hayley Ferris masters the difficult piece, and all who hear it feel deep elation, like standing on a beach staring across the ocean, the warm sun on their skin and the breeze in their hair. Diego Morales declines to even try to learn the song penned by his ancestor.

Zoey Valentine is going through the Potions storage room, looking for some spare cauldrons. As they search, they accidentally disturb a large nest of billywigs! Zoey is stung immediately, and the strange insects scatter through the school. (IC/OOC to come.)
  • Although Mrs. O’Hare has a handle on the situation within hours, a lot of students get stung.

  • If your character is stung, for several hours they experience extreme giddiness, and may float a foot in the air. It’s up to you if your character got stung or not.

🎂 Happy birthday, Mackenzie Prince!

Mr. Thorn announces that there will be two unique Quidditch games taking place in the near future. They’ll be matches against a team from Ilvermorny, and a team from Hogwarts. The reason for this is that starting in March, Gooseberry has been chosen to host talent scouts from the American and British Quidditch leagues. All house team players will be seen by the scouts, but it’s still prestigious to be chosen for the Gooseberry team that’ll go up against the visiting schools. He advises everyone practice hard this month. Tryouts for the Gooseberry representative team will be held January 29th.

Anuhea Apalai wants to start a betting pool on which players will be selected.

🌕 WOLF MOON

Veronica Powers is out on a brisk hike when the trail crumbles beneath their feet and sends them down a small incline on Rattlesnake Trail. Luckily, they’re unhurt, but soon realize they’re not alone. A massive and very angry black bull moose has been disturbed by their fall, and proceeds to charge them! Vee escapes by running and tumbling down a hill. They arrive at the lodge bruised and a little bloody, with their hair full of twigs.
FRI

Friday the 13th! Students wake up amid jokes that today is supposed to be unlucky. No one’s too concerned, until the first person goes to open the door to their cabin. That’s strange, it’s stuck. Soon it becomes clear that the door is sealed. You’re locked in your cabins! (IC/OOC to come.)
  • All windows and doors are sealed shut magically. There’s nothing you can do to open them. Please don’t try fire, we don’t want anyone to kill themselves and all their roommates.

  • All students were in their assigned cabins that night. No exceptions. Sorry, this is just for ease of executing the event.

  • Staff will realize there’s a problem at 8:00 AM. They are similarly unable to unlock the cabins.

  • Staff conjure water and simple meals to students for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s not the best, but it’ll have to do.

  • At midnight, exactly 24 hours after the cabins first sealed, the doors and windows will magically unlock.

  • It’s assumed this was another freshman prank, but no culprits are found.
MONTHLY BONDING ACTIVITIES for all juniors are cancelled.

[Character N] gets up first and realizes the door’s finally unlocked, but decides to prank their roommates by claiming they’re still trapped. [Prefect Character O] puts a stop to the nonsense before their cabin panics. (Note: Characters N and O must be in the same house.)

The Annual Talent Show! This year, the best three performances will not only win prizes, but they’ll be asked to perform in front of the visiting parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you'd like to sign up your character for the talent show, please comment below.

The announced prizes are:
  • Third place: A pair of tiny pocket two-way mirrors. They show what the other one would be reflecting, and voices can be heard through them.

  • Second place: A probity probe in the form of a magnifying glass. When you look through it, anything magical that is hidden appears to glow.

  • First place: The 2013 Contrail Hurricane, a top of the line broom generously donated by a former student who was notoriously good at showtunes and Quidditch. This broom is the best of the best, and used by professional American teams.

Martin Luther King Day. No classes.

Joanna May is walking to the lodge to get in a little extra studying, and sees Mr. Elmasry leaning on a tree, looking unwell. He’s struggling to breathe, and seems to be in a lot of distress. Joanna panics when they see the gray tinge to his lips. They rush him to the lodge and to Healer Mufferaw, who’s appropriately upset… but not very surprised. He has a healing spell and a potion ready, and within 10 minutes Mr. Elmasry seems to be fine. Mufferaw has some choice words about how Karim needs to be careful breathing in all that dry, cold air. Mr. Elmasry, meanwhile, is deeply grateful, and reveals to Joanna that he’s struggled with severe asthma and other assorted health problems since he was a kid. It’s the whole reason he knows Healer Mufferaw so well.

🎂 Happy birthday, Nathaniel Bird and Quinn Cunningham!

A wifi signal named iM HeRe appears late at night, accessible from anywhere on school grounds. When students connect to it and attempt to access the internet, the default page is a black screen which plays the videotape from The Ring. Nothing else loads online.
  • In the last hours of the prank in the early morning, the video suddenly changes to a strangely compelling live cam of the woods near Ebonhide. It makes you want to watch closely. It makes you want to go into the forest... However, a little after 8 AM, the wifi signal disappears, and the live cam is disabled.
WED

During breakfast, Ms. Vector announces that yesterday’s wifi signal was a prank played by a bunch of former Azurcrests. From the way other staff members keep glancing at him, it seems obvious they suspect Mr. Elmasry took part in this prank.

Victoria Powers is outside the History of Magic classroom before dinner and overhears Mr. Elmasry telling Mr. Merrill that none of his old school friends are taking credit for the last video. Mr. Merrill, uncharacteristically serious, warns him to “be careful about the kind of attention you attract.”

Boating Club goes ice fishing on the frozen lake. The bass and trout come unusually fast and furious, with everyone catching a record number of fish, and Ferdinand Ayers landing an impressive 14-pound, 12-ounce largemouth bass. There's enough fish that their catches will be the main course for tomorrow's dinner. Hope your parents like seafood!

🌟 Diego Morales organizes an unsanctioned overnight camping trip in the woods close to Azurcrest, making use of the warmed up tents from the last Grotto party. There will be alcohol and a party before bed.
FRI

Parent-Teacher Conferences begin. Family members start arriving Friday after classes end, and get settled into the newly renovated wing of the lodge. All visiting families are given one room each to share.

That evening, there’s a dinner for students and their families. After which, the winners of the talent show perform for the parents. No pressure! (IC/OOC to come.)

Second day of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Parents and guardians speak to Heads of House and other teachers about the students. That night, parents and other family members will all return home.

🌟 Students or family members outside enjoying nature before breakfast may hear something less peaceful than the birdsongs they were expecting. A game of pick-up hockey is happening by the docks, Quinn Cunningham and her mother versus Christopher Park and Jesse McBride. They sound loud and angry, and like they're having a great time.

After a tiring day, Penelope Vargas, [Character T] and Ennis Harper have the same idea. They’re surprised to run into one another in the Grotto, looking for peace and quiet… and a stiff drink.

🎂 Happy birthday, Reid Wainwright!

🌟 The Pennywise Pixies and the Goosey Griffins face off in the second game of the intramural pick-up hockey league! Run by Quinn Cunningham (with the help of Christopher Park), all skill levels are welcome, and players can join at any point in the season.

Casper Kim is walking in the evening, and they think they hear someone crying around a bend. They follow, and now the crying is further into the woods. They still follow, and once again, the source of the crying moves. They stop to think, and hear the same hitched sob from just a minute ago. The exact same sob. The crying seems to be a one minute loop playing endlessly on repeat. Suddenly terrified, Casper runs back to their cabin, inexplicably in tears.

TEAM GOOSEBERRY QUIDDITCH TRYOUTS
[info]goosemods
2016-12-31 11:53 am UTC (link)
Tryouts are held on January 29 for the Gooseberry representative team that’ll play in the Ilvermorny vs. Gooseberry game. The match will take place at the end of next month. Depending on the team’s performance, the roster for the game against Hogwarts may change.

Selection will be based on if it’s important to your character’s arc, and how active and involved your character is in Quidditch and the rest of the game. Non-team members and reserves can try out, but preference will be given to current house team players. After that, it’ll be sorted by RNG. The final team and reserves will be announced in February.

If your character going to try out for the interhouse team, fill out the following form and reply to this comment with the participating character(s):

Remember to submit your participating characters by 11:59 PM (MT) on Sunday, January 29 in order to be considered for the final roster.

JEFFERSON KEY
[info]magicnumber
2016-12-31 01:00 pm UTC (link)
Character: Jefferson Key!
House: Azurcrest!
Current Position: Chaser! Yes these are all getting explanation points FIGHT ME
Strengths: Jeffy has a strong arm and fast reflexes, and ENOUGH ENERGY FOR FIVE QUIDDITCH TEAMS. He does not seem to lose his steam until after the game is over.
Weaknesses: He is just not an aggressive player. Jeffy just wants to play, he doesn't necessarily feel like he needs to win to have fun. He understands that he'll probably get smacked in the face with a Bludger a time or two, but HE DOESN'T WANT TO HURT ANYONE :((((( There is also a chance he might try to start conversations with people during the game. Like they have three seconds of down time and he's like, "HI GUYS! HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND???"
Narrative Importance: JEFFY IS A SHINY NEW PENNY, so I don't necessarily expect him to end up on the team. BUT FIGHT ME. He has that whole "hey Jeffy you're not supposed to be focusing on sports or thinking of it as a viable career option for your future" dilemma going on, and this sounds like it's something that would encourage him to focus on sports and think of it as a viable career option for his future. JEFFY. LISTEN TO YOUR ADULTS.

QUINN CUNNINGHAM
[info]qnnc
2016-12-31 01:14 pm UTC (link)
Character: Quinn Cunningham
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Reserve (used for Beater and Chaser). Trying out for Beater.
Strengths: Very quick to act, has no problem making the snap decisions. Fearless. Freakin' strong and smacks those Bludgers with a merciless determination. She spends so much time on the bench that when she's allowed to play she goes ALL. OUT. People often then realize why she's usually benched.
Weaknesses: ... See above. Her primary weakness on the pitch is that she's so violent she becomes a liability in the long-term. Also, while a talented flyer (like any Quidditch player would be), she's not the type who becomes one with her broom. (Her bat, on the other hand...)
Narrative Importance: It's very in-character for her to try out, but her professional sports dreams died looong ago. Making the team would not help her catch her dream (nor to shackle it to her heart). She doesn't need to be prioritized.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

QUINN CUNNINGHAM -- addendum! because a lot can change in a month!
[info]qnnc
2017-01-29 10:25 pm UTC (link)
rn quinn is more invested in the team than she (or i~) expected, due a combo of (1) introspective anon brood fests, (2) discovering that she and chris clean up the pitch as co-beaters, and (3) actually playing with people she gels really well with (#2 dream team + not being benched = yeah!!!).

it still isn't a life or death situation for her, nor is it an arc-breaking one, but i will say that whichever way it goes will have an impact on her development over the next couple of months. more than it did before, at the very least. pro sports was a possibility as her illogical contingency plan at the beginning of gooseberry, but then she got knocked down to reserve and decided "welp! only one option left for me, hurray healing." will she keep questioning her career goals? will the fallback come back? stay tuned.

ZOEY VALENTINE
[info]valentinez
2016-12-31 03:02 pm UTC (link)
Character: Z
House: Ribbonfin
Current Position: Chaser, trying out for Chaser.
Strengths: Zoey is a quick thinker. She's good at anticipating and taking advantage of openings, recognizing other players' patterns and weaknesses, changing play style on a dime, etc. Her biggest strength, though, is working as part of a team -- she operates very much as part of that Chaser trio rather than as an individual.
Weaknesses: Not particularly physically strong. Easily pushed around. If asked to do something a particular way or to follow a narrow plan, she can lack individual initiative.
Narrative Importance: I think it's important for Z to see that she DOES have other talents that are marketable and good and worth developing, not just Potions or arts/Divination stuff that she holds onto so tightly for the sake of it.

WILDE
[info]destructobot
2016-12-31 03:08 pm UTC (link)
Character: Jonny Wilde!
House: Ebonhide
Current Position: Reserve Keeper, trying out for Keeper.
Strengths: Wilde is a very zen player. You might expect him to be mean and reckless and tough, etc, and in some ways he is, but he's mainly very calm and unshakable. No flinching here. IN THE ZONE. He's hard to knock off a broom and doesn't seem to register pain.
Weaknesses: There's a reason he's on Reserve. He's a good player, just not the very best. A specific weakness might be hearing and/or collaborating with other players when they offer advice.
Narrative Importance: I feel like there's no way he wouldn't give this a go, honestly. He loves and hates being Reserve Keeper, and he wants to prove that he's BETTER THAN YOU THINK.

Leo Fiori
[info]challenge
2016-12-31 03:14 pm UTC (link)
Character: Leonardo Fiori
House: Ebonhide
Current Position: Beater
Strengths: He's a very, very calculating player. He can scope out other players' weaknesses and exploit them very well. He's strong physically and has a cold aggression that is never personal on the field. He's calm under pressure and good at determining plays. Quidditch is one of the like 3 things he eats/sleeps/breathes, duh.
Weaknesses: He tends to view the game as a chessboard and be vulnerable to surprises he does not see coming. He's even worse at taking uncalculated risks. He also-also is used to being the captain and balks a little at taking orders from other people if he doesn't agree with them.
Narrative Importance: I MEAN I could work with it either way! Quidditch isn't Leo's primary career goal; and as they round the bend to the end of sr year, maybe he's focusing more on Aurordom. But realistically, he would like to keep the option of pro Quidditch on the back burner, and is going to do everything he possibly can to be as impressive at Quidditch as he possibly can, and would try REALLY hard to get on this team. MOSTLY because he's also ridiculously competitive in everything he tries with no off switch, which I probably didn't have to say again.
Yes I know it's stupid to have competitive athletics as a backup career.
This is Leo we are talking about.

SYLVESTER STOKER
[info]stokers
2016-12-31 03:16 pm UTC (link)
Character: Sy Stoker
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Chaser
Strengths: Strength, stamina, determination. He's not the fastest flier, but he works well in a Chaser trio (prefers a win for the whole team vs. chasing glory in getting the most goals). Good strategist. Pays attention to everything that's happening on the field.
Weaknesses: Terrible temper. Loses his composure when his team is losing. Competitive and aggressive, plays rough, will stop at nothing to get the Quaffle. Controlling, likes to be in charge and order people around, which can lead to him losing focus.
Narrative Importance: Sy wants to be a pro Quidditch player (which is VERY MUCH not what his parents want for him), so being recognized will bolster him quite a bit after this terrible season he's been having. Buuuuut he'll survive even if he doesn't get it, and LBR he has not earned the privilege with his recent behaviour. Plus I know that, as a mod character, Sy will be lower priority than other people WHICH IS OK but I would really like it. :((( Meggie is going to have to decide the roster, I can't be trusted here.

"Competitive and aggressive, plays rough, will stop at nothing to get the Quaffle" sounds like a half-assed negative that's actually a positive... I MEAN LIKE he's an asshole who's always on the brink of breaking rules, he'll elbow other Chasers and bump into them too hard in trying to steal the Quaffle from them. Not necessarily qualities you want to put on a team who's representing the whole school?

Penelope Vargas
[info]sneakoscoped
2016-12-31 03:47 pm UTC (link)
Character: Penny Vargas
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Reserve Seeker
Strengths: She's very fast and agile, she's great on a broom, and has really keen eyesight.
Weaknesses: She was kicked off for being unsportsmanlike. She's very concerned with how shitty her teammates are doing, and was often too frustrated with what she perceived as their "poor" performance and lashed out at the team. She was very good at seeking even then, but her attitude was... more than lacking.
Narrative Importance: This actually means a LOT to Penny. She was kicked off her own team for being a bitch when she was younger and with the new seeker not sucking, she never had a chance to get back and prove she could be better. She wants to PROVE that she's NOT just a reserve, she CAN be a starter and she IS good.

Avery Davenport
[info]extra_sweet
2016-12-31 03:47 pm UTC (link)
Character: Avery Davenport
House: Ribbonfin
Current Position: Keeper
Strengths: Level-headedness, quick response time, and speed. Avery is very good at what she does, and she is most comfortable playing sports so she's not as tense up there. Plus, she just wants to have fun - it helps.
Weaknesses: Sometimes she can be too concerned with her teammates, and gets mildly distracted from her keeping duties. She's also not super loud, so sometimes communicating with her team can be difficult!
Narrative Importance: Avery would love to be on the team, it would make her damn happy for sure, but she is not fussed if she doesn't make it because, well, she's Avery. She's not fussed with much.

HENRIETTA GRAY
[info]unregrettable
2016-12-31 05:36 pm UTC (link)
Character: Henrietta Gray
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Seeker
Strengths: CATCHING THE SNITCH. Okay so mainly ~aerial agility~ e.g. flying really fast, speedy turns and manoeuvres, THE WRONKSI FEINT, not getting hit by Bludgers, etc. She's not afraid of getting hurt and will take risks in order to win but I'm not sure if this counts as a strength or a liability...
Weaknesses: Dividing her attention between looking for the Snitch, and keeping an eye on the rest of the game. (As a captain I think she struggles with knowing how much/how little to instruct the rest of her team during the game. She trusts them to do a good job, but she also knows it's her role to pull it all together, but doing that means splitting her concentration which makes her nervous.)
Narrative Importance: It's not really that important, since Etta doesn't plan on going pro in Quidditch, but she's sure as hell still going to try out. BECAUSE GOOSEBERRY HAVE TO WIN.

LEVI KRAMER
[info]idfk
2016-12-31 08:06 pm UTC (link)
Character: Levi Kramer
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Chaser
Strengths: Stunts (he's a crowd pleaser), flying finesse, and distraction/fake outs. He's very "LOOK AT ME!!" in his practice and his focus is on distracting the other team and playing mind games so that they're not focusing on taking his teammates down.
Weaknesses: Levi doesn't score as many goals as his teammates because he's busy showboating. His strategy relies on them to make up for it.
Narrative Importance: Levi is going out for professional Quid and his entire school career has been focused on the goal of him playing profesional Quid when he graduates. He has no real back up career plans if he fails. If Levi doesn't make the team, he'll feel like he's not good enough to play at a professional level if he can't even make it onto a high school team. It'll go beyond the scope of simple Butthurt: he will be Anally Devastated. And probably cry in private for the first time in forever. BOY PUT ALL HIS EGGS IN ONE BASKET.

CLEM DECOURT
[info]neattrick
2017-01-01 04:20 am UTC (link)

Character: Clementine Decourt.
House: Ebonhide.
Current Position: Chaser.
Strengths: Clem is an indisputably talented Quidditch player, so all her bragging isn't 100% hot air. Her primary asset as a player is her impeccable aim - she's a big goal-scorer for her team and has on occasion made impressive goals from midfield. She's not the fastest flyer, but makes up for her lack of speed with her maneuverability. She's especially good at getting the quaffle away from other people. She's also a surprisingly good team player considering how competitive she is; she always knows exactly where her teammates are and what they're doing, and will pass the quaffle off if she isn't the person who needs to be in possession.
Weaknesses: Most of her flaws as an athlete are tied up in her ego: her ability to keep an eye on her teammates occasionally means she's not focusing on what she needs to be focusing on, she has control issues (SHE KNOWS BEST JUST LISTEN TO HER), and she's super injury-prone. Obviously Quidditch is a high risk sport but she seems to get hurt a LOT. And then once she is hurt she hates tapping out and letting a reserve take her place. She'll play with one arm if she has to and she'll DO IT BETTER THAN YOU COULD. She probably gets hurt so much because she guns so hard for the other players. She's rough. She's also a sore loser but that doesn't impact her gameplay TOO much.
Narrative Importance: It's pretty important to her, yeah. She's a athletics scholarship student, got into the school based on her talent, wants to go pro after she graduates... I'm not saying it'd KILL HER if she didn't make the team but it'd mess up her year for sure.

Christopher Park
[info]doyouevenlift
2017-01-03 12:08 am UTC (link)
Character: Chris Park
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Beater
Strengths: Chris is very aggressive on field, with pinpoint accuracy. He's also quick, agile, and undaunted in the air. He's not exactly one with the broom, but he is definitely one with his bat. Nothing's personal to him on the field.
Weaknesses: Clearly, Chris doesn't quit even when he's injured, which can negatively impact the game, and he tends to focus in on specific players. For most teams - that's usually the opposing beaters, for Azurcrest, it's mainly just Levi.
Narrative Importance: Chris hasn't publicly committed to anything. He hasn't been filling out applications for programs after high school, and it's quietly because he's seriously contemplating going pro for quidditch. He sacrificed a promising hockey career path (which may or may not have actually happened) to attend this school, and he's not ready to completely abandon the route of professional dangerous sport yet. So it's high priority for Chris, even though he won't publicly admit it, and if he actually loses out on making the team, he'll be pretty butthurt about it. Even worse than he's been about coppertale losing literally every game. This loss would just cement that he's got no business playing quidditch. It's just been a really bad season you guys.

Sofia Delgado

2017-01-03 12:10 am UTC (link)
Character: Sofia Delgado
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Current Beater, trying out for Beater.
Strengths: Focus, strength, team player, speed.
Weaknesses: Tends to focus too much on the bludgers/chasers and doesn't really notice the other beaters until it's too late. Can be a little too rough, and at times a little bit too overconfident in her skill.
Narrative Importance: Trying out is something that Sofia would definitely do, and while being a professional player isn't her dream or anything, she definitely wouldn't say no to it.

REID WAINWRIGHT..... after talking to marin
[info]unresponsive
2017-01-03 02:31 am UTC (link)
I CHANGED MY MIND I WANT MORE TO DO WITH REID I'M ENTERING HIM FOR REAL.

Character: Reid Wainwright
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Current Chaser, former Seeker. Tried out for Seeker.
Strengths: Speed, agility. Reid is extremely skilled and confident on a broom, making him difficult to hit or catch up with. He readily takes risks and can weave through moving obstacles with ease, which was useful when pursuing the Snitch through a busy pitch.
Weaknesses: Focus, teamwork, keeping an eye on his fellow Chasers, and judging distances for passes. Reid's only been playing as a Chaser since this school year, and while he's improving, it's not all smooth sailing. Returning to Seeker has him a little nervous, and feeling like he has a lot to prove after having it taken from him means that Reid won't be at his most natural.
Narrative Importance: Being a Chaser has been a good lesson for Reid, but he's not really a natural at it. What's been important for him, though, is gaining a deeper connection to his team. He never really appreciated what being a Seeker meant, because he could put so much distance between himself and the actual game. With Coppertale performing so poorly and him struggling to master being a Chaser, his investment in winning has really increased, because he has to be part of the team and experience their struggles. Buuuuut his heart still lies with Seeker. He misses it so badly. I think it would be a good opportunity for him to bring his new sense of responsibility and teamwork to the Seeker position, and encourage him to try out for Seeker again next year and prove to Sy that's where he belongs.

SUSANA VELASQUEZ
[info]gottaplay
2017-01-05 12:39 am UTC (link)
Character: Susana Velasquez
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Keeper
Strengths: Ana is a natural, and has great instincts when it comes to the game. She's young, but those natural talents make it a bit less of an issue. She is quick thinking, passionate, and 100% focused when playing. She doesn't shy away from any hit, any play, anything that will help her team win.
Weaknesses: Ana can become frustrated still if she is doing poorly, which only makes it worse. She's gotten better, but she's still learning. She also tends to fixate on one thing, missing occasional others (like bludgers to her head)
Narrative Importance: Ana lives for Quidditch. It's her passion, and really the only thing that makes her feel like she is worth attention. Playing on the team would validate all the years of fighting with her parents over it being "foolish", and would also kind of show her that even though she's getting more friends now it doesn't effect her performance.

ULYSSES QUAYLE
[info]kingulysses
2017-01-10 05:04 pm UTC (link)
Character: Ulysses Quayle, now with fewer confusing typos!
House: Ebonhide
Current Position: Chaser
Strengths: Gotta go fast. He's zippy on the pitch, and you can expect him to be anywhere you lob the quaffle. You throw, he will catch -- even if he's nearly got to break his neck to do it. Honestly, Ulysses probably would have made a strong Seeker, but he loves the excitement of his position and would never switch. Being a hummingbird comes in handy as a Chaser, though, especially since he's also a good catch.
Weaknesses: Not the best team player. Ulysses is determined to show everyone he's capable and, as a result, is an occasional quaffle-hoarder. Believe it or not, he's not trying to throw anyone under the bus; the tunnel vision just sets in when the quaffle is in his hand. Leo's style as a player and as captain is, hopefully, beating that tendency out of him.
Narrative Importance: Team I-Used-To-Play-For-Ilvermorny-And-Now-I-Have-Something-To-Prove. Also, if Clem gets on and he doesn't, he'll be officially losing to his nemesis and will be intolerable for weeks. Anyway, Ulysses is a new character, but he'd definitely try out so I gotta comment here anyway.

Re: TEAM GOOSEBERRY QUIDDITCH TRYOUTS
[info]reehobbs
2017-01-12 03:56 pm UTC (link)
Character: Ree Hobbs
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Beater
Strengths: She's fearless, she's good at following visual cues and thinking a step or two ahead and therefore aiming that Bludger at the right place/right time.
Weaknesses: She's not always the best at following directions. Sorry, Captain. She's also not terribly competitive.
Narrative Importance: It is not going to break my heart or Ree's if she doesn't make the team. Quidditch is something she does because it's a lot of fun, not because she intends to go pro or anything. She is therefore trying out for this because it's fun, too. And because it'll give her a chance to go up against/interact with some of her old schoolmates, and that's awesome.

Jaime Castillo
[info]lupofiasco
2017-01-15 01:33 am UTC (link)
Character: Jaime Castillo
House: Azurcrest
Current Position: Chaser
Strengths: Skilled broom work - he's good at advancing, dodging, and generally keeping opponents on their figurative toes. He's a good team player.
Weaknesses: He can be a little unfocused and silly sometimes; if he's feeling particularly flustered by something he can get caught up in his head and not pay enough attention. Someone flirting with him is definitely a tactic that could be used in-game to derail him.
Narrative Importance: It's only somewhat important in that Jaime has literally zero plans for his life after Gooseberry and he's suddenly starting to realize that maybe he should start thinking about that - while he's not necessarily super interested in going pro his poor little self is scrambling to find any viable job related to something he likes.

Guess who keeps forgetting that they didn't do this~
[info]tightwire
2017-01-15 10:07 pm UTC (link)
Character: Roxanne Barringer
House: Coppertale
Current Position: Beater
Strengths: Insanity. The broom and Roxie are not one. The broom is a thing she can use to hang off of or stand on top of. She's talented, but her talent clearly stems from other sources and she's better at genuinely insane hits than she is at the simplistic staples. (Her strengths are weaknesses. I am terrible at this.)
Weaknesses: Roxie has the skill and strength, but lacks in the competitiveness and bloodthirstiness. And the real, gritty passion. She loves playing, enjoys the hell out of her teammates. But if players are supposed to be looking for glory or anything, she really isn't doing that. She's just having fun.
Narrative Importance: She'd be very happy to make it, but not making it wouldn't devastate her. As stated, she loves Quidditch, but it isn't what she wants to do. And Roxie just plain likes watching other people do the things that they're passionate about. So she'll be happy with the result either way.
