While Caroline was eternally grateful for the safety Camp provided, it was always kind of tough to have to bring people in. Nothing like telling someone they were stuck for the foreseeable future in a shitty version of reality and no one had any way of sending them back. Even worse when she had to make sure the information they gave her was the truth, and nothing but the truth. Caroline always took her vampire skills as the just because I can doesn't mean I should. She could approach every conversation with ears wide open for the signs of lying, but she chose not to. People lied, it's what they did. Not always about big things, but the little things, and Caroline was no exception. She figured if she'd like the ability to lie the odd time, so would others. Even worse, was the knowing if they were lying, that she'd have to compel them to get the truth. It wasn't ideal, but it kept people safe in the Camp. So she did it. She grabbed the notepad she used to jot things down, and her list of questions that were required by Council and headed into the quarantine building. One of the guards motioned her toward the little room she used in the barrack style building and she knocked before she opened. She started to talk as she walked in. "Hi, I'm Caroline and I know this is pretty crazy but..." she paused as she looked at the woman sitting at the table. "Natasha?" she asked before she could even think twice about it. They had lists. Joey and Steve. People that she kept an eye out for. Steve's was probably the longest - she figured that was probably what happened when you were Captain America - but Natasha's name had been the top. Natasha's was the only one she had a face to the name, a picture that had clearly been ripped out of a magazine Steve had been carrying on him for a while before he showed it to her when they made the lists. She hadn't asked much about it, it wasn't her place, and she knew how much it sucked to be stuck here without someone you cared about. |
