Who: Bucky, Peggy
Where: Bucky's place in 8.
When: The day after Peggy and Steve's date.
What: Breakfast, kitten meeting, probably some awkward. Will edit with warnings if they come up but probably mentions of fake threesomes and such.
They'd been talking about this for a while, but it hadn't actually happened until now. Bucky was usually always glad to see Peggy, long as he was up to people of any kind, and he'd been doing a lot better with that the last year. This wasn't an exception, except for how now Bucky was publicly either fucking the guy she wanted to date with Natasha, or they were both fucking the same woman, and Bucky went home to watch them together. Bucky didn't know which way the rumors were going, and he hadn't tried to find out. He figured he'd probably hear tomorrow anyway - he had to go talk to Sam soon.
He knew Peggy didn't believe, and that she liked him. But Bucky still hated that it was inevitably going to hurt her, make things strange and harder than they already were on her and Steve. And there was that little extra edge of nerves because ... Bucky wouldn't have tried to go after Steve when he wanted Peggy. Peggy did a better job talking sense to him than Bucky, and she was a better person and better for him. Bucky had been just a kid when he was Reaped, and he'd only just started to tip to the fact that not everyone wanted to see their best friend 24/7, or thought about them the same way Bucky did, that he saw Steve the same way Bucky saw the girls he went around with, or wanted to.
But Peggy and Erskine had heard Steve's name a lot in that first day of nervous babble, and Bucky half thought they both knew, when Erskine warned him off of saying Steve's name and had Peggy whisk him out of 8 without a goodbye to Steve.
Stupid moments of wondering aside, it wasn't anything, never would be. Steve's eyes were full of Peggy and Bucky didn't blame him. He just couldn't help but wonder if somewhere in the back of Peggy's clever mind, she'd wonder if Bucky had done it on purpose, or put himself in a position where it might be likely.
But she'd just been Peggy with him so far. Reassuring and encouraging over texts. So Bucky tried not to worry about it.
Bucky took over the sitting room, and the kitchen, so Becca didn't get in the way. Her affection for Steve didn't slide over to Peggy, who she still saw as part of the Capitol, no matter what Bucky said. His Ma was always polite, if she came out to talk at all. She usually didn't. Talking to Clint had been the most social Bucky had seen her for a while.
With Becca happier with Bucky not around, Bucky was starting to wonder if he shouldn't do what Scott and Natasha did, and get a place in the Capitol, once he had some money back in his account. Becca would be here to look after their mother, and not having Bucky there might actually be good for both of them. His mother either didn't look square at him most days, or her eyes caught on his arm. Maybe it'd be easier if she didn't see him every day. But for now, this was where he'd stick.
Bucky started coffee and put on water for tea, and set out stuff to fix breakfast (which was a thing he guessed he did for people now) when Peggy got there. He'd made sure he had the stuff to actually do sausage and bacon and had some fresh pastries and bread delivered. (From the baker Steve didn't like in town, but it wasn't like Bucky could bake, so what else was he going to do?)
The whole process was a little complicated by the fact that he had a ball of inquisitive fur around his ankles, on his shoulder, or poking her nose into fridges and cabinets the entire time. But Bucky didn't mind that either. Moo was cute - she got away with a lot.
When the doorbell rang, Bucky tried to pry Moo off, but she just trailed after him anyway. So he sighed and went to let Peggy in, Moo tucked in the crook of his right arm instead.
He let Peggy in, introducing her to the kitten - who mostly seemed immediately interested in climbing up to inspect Peggy's hair, though Bucky tried to take her down - and then ushered her into the kitchen to sit at the table. "I wanted it to be hot, so figured we could just talk while I cooked," Bucky said, starting to heat up the pan for the bacon. "I got a bunch of stuff for omelets, can do fried or scrambled or sunny side up - whatever you want." He looked at her over his shoulder, where Moo was still busily trying to find a way to climb up to her hair, and then asked carefully. "How you doing, Peggy?"
