Author's Note: I had to counteract Alya's sad fic with a fuzzy one. :D I'm using this for the 25 Flavors #23 "pick-your-own" prompt, using my own prompt of Christmas.
Margaret still hated this day. The previous two Christmases, since they had been married, had been .... interesting, since Demetrius loved it but Margaret hated it. But now there was Zacharias, too. Demetrius had wanted to go particularly all-out in decorations and gifts. It didn't seem to matter to Demetrius that Zach was only nine months old, he had still wanted the house to practically scream CHRISTMAS from every corner and surface. She knew what time Demetrius would wake up. They were married, after all, had been for three years, so she knew by now what time it would be that he got up in the morning. And so she got up early this morning, before he would be awake, and slipped out of their bedroom, down the hall to Zacharias' room. Demetrius didn't know about what Margaret had hidden away in Zach's room, that she had bought a couple weeks ago. Cringing, Margaret changed the baby into his new outfit, topping it all off with the hat. She hated it, wanted to throw the whole outfit into the fireplace downstairs, or feed it to rabid dogs, but Demetrius would love it, she knew. And so, when Demetrius woke up, it was to an empty bed. After checking the baby's room, which was likewise empty, he went downstairs to look for his wife and son. Margaret was sitting on the floor in front of the tree, Zacharias in her lap, the nine-month-old dressed in a tiny little red Santa suit, complete with the white cuffs, black belt, and red-and-white hat. Maybe he was rubbing off on her a bit, after all. |
