So! The best architect in all of Middle Earth EVER is building me a hobbit hole! It'll take a while for him to finish it, of course, but when he's done, I want everyone to come visit, we'll have a big party with lots of ale and food and hobbit hospitality!

Who wants to help me plan the party? And I mean a hobbit-style party!

Master Merry
You don't
How flatter

I'm embarrassed
It will be finished soon enough, Master Hobbit. Though we may not aid you in decorating.

You'll come to my party, right?!

You'll be the guest of honor! What kind of food do you like? I've never had a party for an elf before.

Yes, of course. I should be delighted to attend a party hosted by a Hobbit.

I am a loose vegetarian, fortunately.

What does 'loose' vegetarian mean?

Do you eat...chicken? Fish?

Chicken and fish, yes. But even then it is a rare thing. I prefer vegetables and light dairy products.

Cheese and eggs though, right? I can make great souffles. And pies! And I'll make a great big salad!!

I shall be delighted! Truly, I look forward to it. Though - while you are a tall Hobbit, many others are taller besides. Will you host your party within or without?

Well, the cooking will have to happen inside. But we could put tables up and enjoy the outside!

That is a wonderful idea!

And you are treating my father well, Master Hobbit?

Oh, of course, my lady! I would make him eat more if I could, but Elves, well, you know how Elves are, of course.

He is very particular about it. If it's green and shows signs of having grown in the earth he will surely eat it.

Will you help me fix some of his favorite things for the party?

Aye! I will. What treats do Hobbits usually provide in parties though?

Oh, Hobbit parties can be amazing. When Bilbo turned 111, there was every kind of food and drink you could imagine! And enough for all the hobbits in Hobbitton, and the whole Shire, really! And there was music and dancing and fireworks...and more food! Enough to eat all through the night. Hobbit food, well, it isn't so different from big people food, really, except that even though we're smaller we tend to eat a lot more of it, and a lot more frequently, too.

Oh! It is not so different from the elves then. There is much food and music, and very much more dancing. We tell stories and sing into the night.

But pray tell, dear Hobbit, what are fireworks?

Well, they're dreadfully hard to describe with words, lady, but here is a picture, although, if you'll forgive my saying so, I think Gandalf's were far better than that.

Oh, no, lady, they're not.

They...they shoot up into the air and explode into color!

Like this.

But I don't know anyone around here who can make fireworks.

Are there any wizards?

Ask, perhaps! I wouldn't know. I have never met one.

I met two, Gandalf and Saruman. Didn't like Saruman much. Gandalf was great, though.
