Long story short: You've been snatched by a magical island ~~or read into it by a little girl~~ that seems to grab people from any dimension/time/planet you can possibly think of. You'll have characters from literature or television rubbing shoulders with people from many different time periods.

Nobody's found a way to leave, and bad shit tends to happen to you if you get too close to the giant stone tower at the center of the city.
