Regulus was already on the roof of Building D when he sent his last text to Sirius. One of the perks to having magic again, even if the execution of apparating was a bit sketchy. As doing any kind of magic right now was a bit of a struggle because Regulus refused to use Potter's wand. A cigarette was in one hand the moment the world righted itself and his lighter in the other, the metal muggle object a hold over habit from two months of no magical abilities. Plus, the way the lid flipped and the weight of it balanced in his hand made it ideal for fidgety hands. And Regulus was right twitchy and nervous about now.
Juno's offer was so many things, terrifying, possibly amazing, but the former drowned out the latter that it was difficult for Regulus to think objectively. If he said no, things would continue on as usual, he would do what were essentially patch jobs on his psyche and self-esteem, and never addressing the underlying ailments, but Juno would never have to know all of his secrets. Or he could take Juno up on her offer to 'fix' him, but he would have to show her everything. And that could only end with her completely hating him and never wanting to have anything to do with him. Then again, if he chose option A Juno was bound to get fed up with him before long and leave him anyway. He couldn't stack the deck in a way that lead to a favorable outcome.
And then there was his insistence conviction that he didn't really deserve to have this opportunity. He held onto his guilt tighter than a vice, and nothing he'd experienced here had made him change his stance on the subject. A former Death Eater shouldn't get to find peace.
But Juno wanted to help him and it was just tempting enough that Regulus was deeply disturbed. It pressed on him so he couldn't think about anything else, and, obviously, he couldn't sleep. And if he couldn't sleep then, obviously, neither should his brother. And as luck would have it, Sirius could also be a voice of dissent to this conundrum.
Regulus paced the roof waiting for Sirius to show up.
