Keep Your Friends Close...
Who: Jazz, Rascal, and Midvalley
Where: The Garage (AKA: Jazz's Room)
When: The day after Inquisitive Day
Rating: PG-13 (maybe R, depending on how it goes)
Warnings: Language, innuendos, violent natures
Summary: Jazz and Sal have been wanting to meet for a while, but Sal has ideas of his own. He tries to remove Jazz's weapons while the transformer is asleep. But things don't always go as planned these days...

It had been a fair week or two since the incident with Mitch, Henry, and Will on the grounds of Niflheim. Ever since that day, when things hadn't even gone according to plan, Sal had kept it quiet. Emerald had disappeared, Una was off on her own, and Light was in serious condition no thanks to an insane Carrion. In other words, Sal had nothing to do, no one to pick on.

Hm. He looked at his left hand, the bones in his fingers having healed crookedly. Falling off the roof, Sal discovered, was not a good idea. It was still painful to hold a gun - hold anything, really, but he did and without hesistation. And this was probably why some of them healed in funny directions.

ANYWAY. That wasn't the point. The point was that he'd been chatting it up with Jazz. And while this mechanized man confused the hell out of him, he couldn't resist the opportunity to entertain himself. Everybody had to sleep - even robots, Sal figured. So why not pay Jazz a visit, then? Those guns he must have had....they'd be big ones. Big ones with heavy firepower. To obtain them would be victory in the making. Who cared if they were actually getting along? If Sal wanted it, he'd try to get it.

Hoping against hope that Jazz would be in lullaby land, Sal made his way to the garage with a toolbox gripped in his broken fingers.

Jazz is recharging. 64% avareness under standart, that is how they'd always done it.

Just a light nap, nothing more.

In the dreams haunting his processor in the few times that he allows himself the time to shut down, he can see it all over again. The way eyes lost their fire, how the once smoth-talking excentric hiding in a laboratory became arrogant and aloof. This is not what he wants to remember, but still... it is the way of his people.

Somewhere deep within his firewalls, there is a part of him that hopes he will not wake up again with weapons blazing and another comrade lacking some extremities.

Pushing open the door to the garage, Sal gazed around very warily in search of any movement, whether it be from Jazz or even Gin. But there was nothing whatsoever to indicate that anyone was active within the vicinity. So he crept in quietly, closing the door gently, as to not alarm anyone who might have been hiding off beyond Sal's senses.

When he reached the middle of the garage, he frowned, stumped to find there was no one in the room at all. He was bummed, really, and decided it wasn't worth it to hang around and wait for Jazz. Just as he decided to return to the door, he caught a slumbering sigh in the air. The human spun around.

"Holy..." Sal bit back the rest of the thought as he realized he was standing right next to Jazz, who was easily three times his size. His shock quickly melted into mischieviousness. "Well, hello there, big guy..."

Going to work as fast as he could, Sal found some piping and scaffolding-type structures across the wall nearest to Jazz. He angled himself up them as best as he could, finally after some long attempts to get the toolbox out of several jams. With a heave-ho, Sal hopped over onto Jazz's shoulder, grinning like the little devil he was.

The dream has changed. Lost are the few moments of happiness with a complete triade. Now there is nothing but a battle fought within the borders of human structures.

Concrete breaks under their not so merciful touch, glass splinters and creates a myraide of mirror images all showing what few can imagine - hell on Earth and there is nothing anybody can do. Humans scream as they fall; maybe some of them are even destroyed under his own foot. He does not wish to think about it.

Megatron...

He takes the garantuan flyer on, alone and without back-up. It is a suicide mission.

"You want a piece of me!" he screams. "You want a piece of me!"

And here is it where the dream changes. Megatron shrinks until he is nothing but a dwarf in their people's eyes. The small figure crouches on his shoulder, intend on some damage or other.

Without even thinking about it Jazz turns around so that the small being that was Megatron is now under him, fusion cannon aimed directly at its head.

"YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME!" he screams again. Somewhere in the back of his mind there is a hint of knowledge that at this precise moment his eyes gleam as crimson as death.

Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit....

Just as Sal had been prepared to make his way down Jazz's arm, intent on reaching the base of one of his canons and detaching it. It seemed like a pretty straightforward, albeit dangerous, plan, but he was willing to trust in his limbs to get him there in once piece.

But Jazz started going berserk. Sal found himself nailing his arms around the giant 'man's' arms as he began yelling: "You want a piece of me!"

Sal, who really didn't want a piece of Jazz at the moment, just stayed quiet and hoped against hope that whatever nightmare Jazz was having would quickly die. But that would not be the case, as the metal man's eyes open wide and bloody red.

You've gotta be fucking kidding me Sal thought as he held tight to the backside of Jazz's arm, hoping that he wouldn't notice him there.

Still within the grasp of scrambled memory files, Jazz reacts to his surroundings in a way that his comrades would describe as 'off'. At the moment there is no smoothe-talking charmer, there is only the heir. Lord High Protector Megatron's heir.

His eyes find the insect. Organic, definitely one of higher evolved species. Squishy...

"Since when do you have the habit of keeping pets, dearest creator?" he asks the mighty flyer, though it may look like as if he's speaking to the... what ever it is.

After all, in his dream-scrabled processor both Megatron and the insect on his arm are one and the same.

Pets?

Even asleep, Jazz seemed to have a way with saying the wrong thing to Sal, and the asexual human rolled his eyes as the great inorganic being responded to his presence as though he were a fly on his nose. Irritated, frustrated that he wouldn't be able to get this done due to Jazz's light sleeping, Sal made to shimmy back up his arm.

He'd just have to try again later.

It was disappointing, really, because Sal had wanted so badly to disarm Jazz, but as always, plans were ruined. His broken fingers ached as they grasped the metal plates of his arm and he bit back a moan.

"Fine, be that way." He sneered. "Be that way, ruin my afternoon."

Ruin my afternoon, the older mech says. Jazz has to smile at that. It isn't a nice smile.

"What is one ruined afternoon for you, Megs? I had three hundred vorns ruined because of you! Can you imagine how... annoying it is to listen to your onw kid whining because the creator of the child's creator had the gall to rip out the kid's vocoder?"

He moves his arm in such a way that he is able to touch the other individual. Somewhere here is sure that his third would love to try a vivisection on the squishy animal, both of them really.

"You never liked me hooking up with lab rats, didn't you?"

The 'holy shits' in the back of Sal's mind were more frequent and more panicked as Jazz responded to what appeared to be his 'ruined afternoon' comment and lifted his arm to where he perched.

Lab rats? Hell, no, Sal was not going to be the invisible third party to whatever conversation Jazz was having in his sleep. The little human dodged past Jazz's probing hand, swinging up to his shoulder. The toolbox was forgotten as he made his way over to sit next to Jazz's ear.

He had to get the hand away from him! So he leaned in next to Jazz's ear and began to talk to him in his sleep:

"Don't touch the lab rat, it has cooties." Sal tried not laugh. "Evil virus cooties. If you poke it, you'll get the cooties and die."

"Why should I do that?" Jazz looks down at Sal. "After all, I would be deceiving myself. You know as well as I that you'll try again to get at my hardware. So, why bother with it?"

He shrugs and lets himself glide down into an elegant sprawl. Now he was able to look into Sal's eyes.

"And you already know you're dangerous. Why should I tell you things you've known for a long time." He inspects his fingers like someone who's just come from a manicure. "Do you feel threatened by my little harmless self?"

"Yes, but it does so make me feel better when someone reminds me every now and then."

Sal put the part on the table beside him, making sure to keep it close. If Jazz was expecting him to come back and use it on him, he'd better not lose it. Otherwise, their second naptime encounter would be disappointing. Now that Jazz could see him eye-to-eye, thinks became both a bit more comfortable and more awkward. So this was the guy who was so interested in him.

"I don't feel threatened by you, but I do find you to be a challenge. And what kind of nuisance would I be if I didn't try to meet that challenge, hm?" He threw Jazz another cheeky grin. "Just another attempted conquest."

"And that we want you to be absotively poselutely not. After all, one needs a bit of bite in life to make things interesting."

He smirks and gives Sal his bet come hither look. This kind of look always got him some hugging time with his third, be it either his giant explorer or his machiavellian scientist.

"I'd do anything to make you feel better, you know?"

Midvalley had been meaning to ask Jazz if he needed "de-glitching," and resolved to go to the garage to see if the robot was awake. Before he saw Jazz's face though, he heard words and saw a human figure standing near Jazz.

Suspecting one or both of them had already seen him, he said, "Sorry, am I interrupting something?"

He said it without sarcasm though. If Jazz had private business with someone else, he'd clear out. He couldn't help wondering if it was a certain type of privacy that Jazz might require, though they hadn't locked the door and he didn't see a holo... but maybe that's wasn't Midvalley's business either, especially since he'd turned down the honor of being Jazz's "third."

Anyway, though he'd really regret the loss of Jazz's affections if that occurred, he'd never been much of a jealous type.

"Nope," replies Jazz with a grin.

Than he creates an avatar, the very same that shared such a nice time with Midvalley, and lets it move towards the other man with the full intention to give him a Hollywood-worthy welcome kiss.

Sal was about to retort heavily, quickly, desperately that he was tired of receiving Jazz's sweetheart comments and stares when another voice echoed in the large garage. He cocked his head over in the direction of the approaching figure, grateful for the interuption, and recognized Midvalley.

Hm. He owed him one.

But when Jazz created a holo person - oh, yes, because there were ghosts in Niflheim, Sal thought bemusedly - and he approached Midvalley in hopes to give him a kiss, the asexual being held his face in hands. EUGH! It was like watching someone's own parents make out!

"Good fucking grief." He muttered from between his fingers. "I'm officially scared."

The kiss with Midvalley is as sweet as he intended it to be. He sighs internally. That is what I needed, he thinks. Such a nice feeling.

When Sal mutters something about being scared, he answers with his real mouth, as the other one is busy at the moment.

"Really, my dear, I thought you could appreciate a beautiful shell."

His avatar's arms now move to encircle Midvalley in a hug, its head tilting to the side until it as well looked at Sal.

Yes, this holo person was good-looking - aesthetically pleasing. But Sal didn't have hormones like everyone else did. Only in female and male forms did he ever feel anything. As such, Sal was content with just glaring from behind his fingers, wishing it would stop and now scared they would come after him.

The holo's stare and its warm embrace with Midvalley left Sal's eye twitching. This was the standard for cruel and unusual punishment.

"You know what? I think I'm gonna let the two of you catch up. This was just not on today's to-do list." And he grabbed the part, ready to leave.

{AN: Shall we do this as Sal, Midvalley, Jazz?}

"I don't want to intimidate you, my dear. I simply find it a dreaful waste that you do not want to see your potential."

He turns around and finds Midvalley's gaze again. Sal is now behind him. If the avatar were a true organic, he'd probably feel a bit disconcerned to have such a deadly individual as Sal in his back. Or maybe not, after all it is easier to trust those who are distrustful.

His words are for Sal. "Despite what you think of me, my beauty, I do not wish to get in your knickers at the moment. You wouldn't know what to do with a third that's ready to die and kill for you."

The smile on the holo's face in meant only for Midvalley.

Sal laughed, throwing his head back. "A dreadful waste! A dreadful waste. Oh, Jazzy, you do tickle me pink."

He shook his head, staring at the back of Jazz's head. Jazz was staring straight at Midvalley when he said those last lines. The way he worded it and the way Midvalley's face looked hinted to Sal that they were serious about their feelings.

"Tell me, Jazzy, Midvalley. Why is it so important to be in a relationship? What's the appeal? Explain it to me, guys."

"When I was alive, I'm not sure I could have told you either. At least not toward the end. I thought the world was ending, and I lived like it was. And died like it was too. And maybe that world did end; Lucifer couldn't tell me, or wouldn't."

Midvalley tried not to think of all the lost ones: Nick, Dominique, poor broken Hopperd.

"I thought here would be like that too, to be honest. You meet people and if you hook up it's because you both might die the next day. But then I met Jazz, and now maybe this world isn't ending as fast as I thought. And if someone's going to reach out to me and give me something to appreciate in life besides my music and winning this damn game..."

Midvalley realizes he sounds actually sentimental.

"Well, maybe you still don't get it. I don't mean that as an insult, though. Some people don't get music either."

"Some things are not meant to be understood." The voice has the slight metallic tinge of Jazz' real body, a sound like the smallest echo ever imagined hiding in the air waves.

"Like music these things need to be lived, to be mourned and cursed and cut out of a beating heart. Like the most effulgent of musical poetry it can only be fully understood once it is too late."

Jazz now lets his avatar melt back into his core, while at the same moment a silver hand is streched out to touch Midvalley's fingers.

"Some things just are."

Midvalley's sentimental reaction didn't fly over Sal's head. In fact, the asexual being almost fell sorry for him. It must have been excrutiating when loneliness really set in to someone who was used to being around others. As Sal had never been anything other than 'lonely' - not that he would have ever considered himself as such - so he was biased, and heavily so.

He figured the same had to be true of Jazz. They really were a pair of lost souls.

Sal almost laughed.

"Alright. Alright." He shook his head, all of his amusement tucked behind his tongue. "I'll try to lay off the queer jokes. Just, in return, lay off of me. I'll feel sorry for you, you'll feel sorry for me. Sound peachy?"

Midvalley put his hand in the robot's metal one. It was odd, contemplating the physical differences between his body and Jazz's real one, yet it didn't bother him much anymore.

"But I am." His eyes are on Sal, even when his hand wander around Midvalley's back and softly begins to play with the other's hair. There is a cold fire burning behind the blue crystals, tinting the eyes into a pale red.

"Even the Chaos Bringer has someone to share eternity with. After all, if you can't love you at least can have a nemesis. And you know as well as I that enemies are more closer to our hearts than anything else."

Hooray for Midvalley! Sal could have appreciatively smacked his ass for that one. But Jazz continued to press the issue to the point that Sal wanted to whip out his gun and ask him to please suck face on that.

The asexual being sighed dramatically once more, striking a near dramatic pose while histrionically wailing: "You're right! All these years alone and in hiding, and I never learned the meaning of love from anyone! All the missed opportunities, the secret meeting places, the special songs, the long nights by the riverbanks. Oh, Jazzy, I feel like I've been mislead all my life! How can I ever thank you for bringing me to the light!?"

Then he deadpanned. "I'm outta here." And went to the door.
