Help Me Improve CU?
EDIT: PLEASE, EVERYONE, DO NOT CONTINUE EVENTS PAST PIRATE WEEK UNTIL THIS IS DISCUSSED WITH MOST PLAYERS. I know that it doesn't end until a few days from now, but I want to make SURE that most players have the choice to talk to me about what's contained here, as it will probably affect the future passing of time in CU.

If you guys have any ideas on how to possibly improve CU, let me know in the suggestion box. But also, I want to make a note for everyone~!

After the Blythe kidnapping thread events, I wanted to note that players may request that the days slow down more noticeably. My intention was to keep time loose in this game so that players could decide when to speed up or slow down themselves, but this isn't turning out too well. During plot-heavy events, whether characters are involved or not, i'm willing to have time go more slowly to ensure that things get worked on without forcing things too far ahead.

As an example, if we're undergoing a particularly plot-heavy period of time in CU, I AM willing to slow things down. If people need an actual representation of time being slowed so that people follow this better, we can do something where each day becomes one third of a day - and characters are not to go too far ahead. Time would still be loose, and characters could post things that go on early, noonish or late in the day regardless of which day it was, but people wouldn't really be welcomed to move ahead of that particular day yet.

I don't think the game is very friendly towards very involved threads right now, and I'm willing to think of ways to alter this somewhat with all of you. If you have any ideas, share them, and we can think about them. =3

Ah, and these suggestions can be shared here, the earlier link was for unrelated things as a reminder. XD

It would be really, really wonderful if we could have something done for time on large/heavily involved threads!

I'm very much new to this sort of RPing, and much more used to having...well...a week or two for a single day. (Which is why I tend to play threads out relatively slowly ICly, because I'm still adjusting to not having a week or two to get things done! And, you know, I'm a sucker for build up. :D)

Anyway, just heartily agreeing with this idea!

I'm glad that you're interested in this! I really, really want to make it easier for everyone to develop threads and characters better. It would also be more friendly to people who occasionally are busier during certain days.

I'm even willing to organize some kind of permanent slow down to make it easier on everyone, if I can think of a way to do this that pleases most of the people in the game.

This! I've run into some problems because I do get busy, especially during the week, with house upkeep and working and all that other stuff, and I feel really badly when the folks I'm threading with are much quicker, and end up getting held up because stuff needs to get wrapped up before a certain time, and RL just doesn't permit me to always be able to reply ASAP.

As for slow down, the easiest way I've found is just to have a designated length of time for each IC day.

I have the same problem, and it's even worse I suppose because i'm the mod. XD

I'm thinking this will probably be a very wise idea, and designated lengths of time for each IC day sounds good...hmm. About a week will probably be best, with it being possible to request shortenings and extensions depending on what's going to take place that IC day, perhaps?

While I'm all for attempting to slow the game down a bit for those of us who get a bit busy, extending it to a whole week for one IC day would be a bit much. I think maybe, at the highest, it should be three-four days. Otherwise things could get really bogged down, really fast.

Vic told me to tell you that she agrees, but ain't online right now. x3

That's a good point, thank you for speaking up. xD It might be better to do that instead.

I'm mostly interested in doing this so there's fewer plot problems - issues where other characters are breezing far ahead and reacting to things that aren't even CLOSE to being finished. Do you think just the three/four days would help that enough? I'm thinking so, but i'm curious. XD

Hee, no problem. <3

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's almost like everyone is on a different page, at the moment. Maybe it would be best to sit everyone down and sort out EXACTLY what is happening at this moment, before we attempt to slow the game down any, since it probably wouldn't make much difference if one person was like "ARR PIRATE" and another was like "SO LOL THAT EVENT ENDED". But once we get it sorted? I think it could work out. Unless a few people are having a hell of a lot of trouble posting. D:

Pardon the account switcharoo. XD

Yeah, i'm thinking that before this time thing gets changed to, there'd be a thread/discussion about what page everyone is on. I'd also list an "event date" where things finally start obeying the three or four day thing.

For example, i'm thinking that we should start doing this "slower time" thing on the day of the trial beginning, or the day after the pirate event ends? XD

Thirding...fourthing whatever the 3 days = 1 IC day.

Especially since I just found out I have one month to pack up all my things and move to my own house! it's going to be a busy month!

Hahaha it's cool, I do that same thing all the time. xD

Sounds like a good plan to me! :D

I think it would probably be better to do it on the day of the trial, though we should probably hold a poll about that one. I don't know what plans people may or may not have, you know?

It all seems reasonable, since I admit I will probably be busier once I'm back at Uni come September, and will have a hell of a workload to deal with. Also, the timezone differences can make threads take a lot longer. Overall, I do think such measures would improve things.

Awesome. Yeah, I want the timezone issues to be minimized by extending time like that, too. =3

Yes! I often feel bad about not being around when most other players are, but it's 2am in the morning where I am. I try to be around as much and as long as I can, but often this irks my parents since they don't like leaving me online after they go to bed, and often are not pleased when they see the light still on downstairs and have to get out of bed when they have work early the next morning to force me to go to sleep. ^^;;

This is a mighty good idea. Especially for those not in the same timezones.

I've seen it happen to good games that threads ran away with the plot so fast that 1. a part of the players (strangely it mostly seems to happen with those living in Europe) don't get a change to post and 2. the game burns out too fast. Happily the rules here seem to work so this doesn't happen, which doesn't say that a slowing of 'game time' wouldn't help in keeping it so.

Lovely ideas.

Much agreement with Clara; school will put a damper on my own rate of posting, so slower CU time would be great for plot-ful threads.

Oh thank goodness, I do agree on the three-for-one-IC day idea. Veeeery much so. Some days I get so busy and so burnt out myself... @_@ and I feel for our European friends as well.

Sometimes it is really hard to figure out time in the game depending upon the threads you are in, so slower time might be good for mass threads.

Also, I think that perhaps some sort of time system should be worked out so that people do not get confused as to when things happen and how they may interfere with/not bother other threads. Something that will still allow for the freedom of time while giving those who need a time reference something to go off of.

Hopefully it makes some sense because I know I was rambling.

Hmm, I sort of like this idea, but I hope that it doesn't change to "One day in CU = one week in our real world,"

I agree that a week is way too long, but extending it in general should be fine, and give people more time to enjoy malfunction days and plotting and so forth.
