Who: Donnie and OPEN
Where: Blockbuster
When: April 1st, evening

Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw her. At first he'd assumed it was Rachel, warped to resemble someone else by his subconscious, but it wasn't. This woman, whoever she was, had nothing to do with his girlfriend.

She was familiar though, this stranger. As soon as sleep took over she'd be there, her sculpted hands brushing against his cheek and through his hair, making him feel calm and comfortable in his own mind. For a recurring dream, it wasn't all that bad.

It was just a pity he couldn't remember her. Once he woke up, the woman's face, her eyes, her smile were gone and out of his head, as if they'd never been there in the first place. The only time he remembered what she looked like was when he was asleep. That didn't mean he didn't think about her during waking hours, though. In fact, thinking about his dream woman was starting to be one of Donnies favourite ways to pass the time...which was why he decided it had to stop.

Moving his eyes over the shelf, Donnie picked up a dvd and stared blankly at the cover. He wasn't here to rent a dvd, not really. Movies made him sleepy, but Rachel was out and it wasn't like he read books. He just needed something to occupy him, to stop him thinking about a woman who wasn't real.

Ant suddenly entered Blockbuster and after a quick chat with the clerk, strolled down an aisle where a gothic looking boy was standing. He was glancing over the shelves for the movie he wanted to see, but it was no where to be found thus far. The further down the aisle he walked, looking for the movie, the closer he came to the goth boy.

Donnie rubbed his eyes, noticing the black on his hands when he took them away from his face. Shit. He had to stop doing that. Lazily, he put the dvd back and shuffled along. Maybe they had Beavis and Butthead. That was pretty funny...

As he sailed down the aisle, R.M.S. Donnie suddenly it an iceberg...a person shaped iceberg, standing in the middle of the row.

"Sorry, man," he muttered, not looking up.

The movie he was looking for was called "Brick," and the clerk said it had been in this aisle, but he wasn't finding it. Suddenly the goth with smeared eyeliner and possibly mascara was uh oh blocked by him.

"No big deal... man. You'd think these aisles wouldn't be so narrow."

Ant didn't think he knew anyone so goth that they wore this much makeup, but then there was something about this guy, "Hey, I know you from somewhere?"

"What?" Donnie looked up and blinked. "Oh, yeah. They're like...not wide enough for people." He threw the stranger a dazed smile as the mystery woman in his head teased him towards the door, back home to his warm, comfy bed...

Her tempting was in vain. Turning to look at the other man, Donnie scratched his temple with blackened finger tips, mind suitably distracted. "Uh...I dunno, maybe. I work at Hot Topic, could've seen you there, man."

The stranger seemed distracted...

Too distracted.

Ant had never spent much time in Hot Topic. He couldn't remember ever buying anything in there either. It was unlikely that he knew the stranger from there.

"I don't think so, but this city isn't that big, I've probably more likely to have seen you out clubbing."

Donnie scratched the back of his head. It was much easier for customers to remember staff than for staff to remember customers. Then again, this guy didn't look like he went to Hot Topic. He was kind of...preppy...

"Uh...yeah, maybe." Although that was doubtful. Dude, that guy would never hit the places he did in a million years! "But..I dunno man, you probably aren't the type to hang where I go." Especially if he used words like clubbing.

That was a good point.

"Hmm. Well, beats me, but you do---"

Have a certain feel about you that feels like---

"Remind me of---"

a pleasant excursion elsewhere---

He smiled and shook his head, thinking of beings like Dreams.

Maybe it was something from a dream.

"someone."

Maybe even another place and time.

"Go to college?"

Donnie smiled again and shook his head. "No, man, but my girlfriend does. She's at the GWU. Does art there, something like that."

Maybe he had seen him around. The guy had a familiar feel to him, as if they'd met somewhere before.

Another connection.

No. Well...maybe, but it was nothing like Galen's. Maybe he'd just seen this guy some place...

"What's your name, man?"

"Ant. Ant Erasmus."

"I attend GWU," and he nodded thinking they were finally getting somewhere possibly...

Maybe he'd seen him around and about campus.

"I take photography in the arts building," and maybe he even knew the girlfriend he thought.

"Who is your girlfriend?"

This guy attended GWU! That had to be it! He could've known any of their friends...hell, he could've hung out with them once, probably briefly. No wonder his face rang a bell.

"I'm Donnie. My girlfriend's called Rachel, Rachel Lang. She's in her second year now...I think."

Donnie scratched his head. "I have a buddy who went there too, he did art. Kinda think he's before your time though..."

Rachel Lang. He immediately recognized the name placing it with pieces that had been hung in the hall he frequented on his way to the campus dark rooms and he did think he'd met her. Met her, even though he couldn't remember them spending much time around each other, but then he could have seen Donnie here and there around the building or at some of the artsy functions on campus.

"Hey I think I've met her. I've seen some of her stuff. Guess next semester she'll be submitting for the junior exhibit."

So maybe the mystery was solved and that was where he knew Donnie from.

"Uh...yeah, yeah she will," Donnie replied. Whether it was true or not, he didn't know. People expecting you to understand their college terms and phrases was one of the downsides of not going.

"Her teachers get on her ass, but she's a good artist." Really, he didn't go to her campus much, but he had to have met this guy somewhere, right?

It was probably from campus that he'd seen Donnie, but something about the guy seemed...safe?

It was a strange feeling and thought.

"I've liked what I've saw of her stuff."

Out of the corner of his eye he finally caught sight of the movie he'd been looking for. Looking between Donnie and the shelf he idly reached out and picked it up from the shelf, "Thought I'd unwind after writing some papers with a few movies."

And then inspiration hit him suddenly, "You know? You have an interesting look and I'm looking for new subjects all the time. You should let me photograph you some time."

Donnie nodded. Rachel was talented, but Donnie didn't really understand what some of her paintings were supposed to mean. Or be. The colours were nice, but they never looked like what she was painting. They always looked sort of...warped, like something out of a dream.

Maybe she'd be the next Picasso. That guy had done pretty well for himself drawing weird stuff.

Donnie looked at the cover of the dvd Ant had picked up. "I haven't seen that...I don't think," he replied, which was technically correct. Movies always made him so sleepy...

The invitation to be photographed threw him slightly though. Donnie took pride in his appearance and ignored the narrow-minded idiots who, in his opinion, were too blinded by conformity to see how cool originality was...but he'd never been asked to model before, not by anyone other than Rachel, anyway. "Uh...yeah, sure. As long as it's not like...when I'm at work," he shrugged, smiling.

Maybe he could be a Hot Topic model. That would be cool.

Ant thought much the same about Donnie's girlfriends work with one exception and that was from what he'd seen of Rachel's abstractions the girl must have knew how to paint emotion. He could have swore that was what he had seen in the canvas...

"Really? It's pretty good. It's a mystery of sorts," he commented after Donnie said he'd not seen it.

"Nah, I wouldn't want to impose on anyone while they are working. I'll give you my number and you can let me know when you want to do it. Whenever you are free. I'm flexible."

He chuckled thinking of a possible outcome of a phone call, "If a guy called Dante picks up? Just tell him you want to talk to me because my roommate is kind of a weird guy."

He gave a bit of a shrug. "I don't watch films, they make me sleep. I like music, nothin' like music to keep you awake."

Awake and away from thoughts about imaginary women.

"Cool. Uh...it's just photgraphs, right? Rachel's asked me to do those naked drawing classes, but like...no."

People asked you to do all sorts in the name of art these days, it was better to check. Hmm...maybe he'd even get paid for it. There was a jacket he'd been after, Rachel had said the rent was going up though...

"Hye man, weird's cool," Donnie protested. What was so bad about weird people? He was one.

"Really? Movies make you sleep and music keeps you awake?"

Usually it was the other way around. He didn't think he'd ever met anyone who was like that.

"Right, just photographs. Clothed. You can wear what you want. I really just try to capture a person how they are, and see if I can capture whatever emotion they are feeling."

Donnie had not met Dante, or as Ant had discovered after talking to him and now knew him/her: Eris, "Well maybe you'll want to stop by and met him then. He needs friends, he is new in town and hasn't had the chance to make any. I have to warn you though, he is a handful and he says some outrageous things---"

"Uh..." Donnie scratched his head. "Actually, they both make me sleep...unless I'm at a gig. You can't sleep then."

And he was already starting to feel tired. His words were sluggish, less well put together than Donnie knew they should be...a small part of him was sure he could hear the woman calling him too.

Yawning, he tried to shake it off and listen to the guy in front of him.

"I don't think sheel's an emotion," he aid, smiling, "but sure man. You got an email or somethin'?"

Outrageous things? Were they bad outrageous things or good outrageous things? The good were always welcome, but the bad weren't, mainly because they were...well, bad. "Sure man, he sounds like a trip." Maybe he was on one, it would explain the outrageous claims.

A gig? The guy must have been a musician when he wasn't working at HT.

"Um--I do. Do you have a good memory? Or should I write it down?"

"No man, my memory's shitty. Here," Donnie held out his hand to Ant. "Just write it down anywhere there. Easier for me to remember if it's on me." There was the ghost of another number still on his skin.

Ant usually carried a pen around. He whipped one out of his backpack, and proceeded to scribble it down under the remains of the ghost number.

"Well, there it is."

Two guys swapping email addresses in a video store. This was gonna look hella weird.

"Not a bad idea." He didn't even think about how weird it might look but then he rarely did unless he was with Dante and Dante was doing something weird like shouting FIRE for the hell of it. "What is it?"

Taking the pen from the man's hand, he removed the lid and scribbled down his email address onto Ant's hand. You had to take opportunities like this. Rachel wanted him to do something with his life...maybe this was it. He hoped she wouldn't get jealous that someone else was using him in projects.

"So...I should wait for an email then?"

"Uh huh," he watched Donnie scribble his addy across his hand. He hadn't written on himself or been written on since high school. It brought back memories.

"I'll email you and we can work out when would be a good time and place for a photoshoot," he said happy to have a new subject/model, maybe this could get them both noticed.

He was suddenly feeling a little sleepy and yawned, "I think after I rent this movie I might save it to watch tomorrow. I'm feeling a little sleepy..."

Which was a little odd since he was usually wide attack at this time of evening, "Sleep must be contagious."

He smiled at Donnie sleepy eyed and walked off toward the counter...
