BASH 8/13 g. Tabitha(7), Daniel(7) vs Lily(3), Ted(8) Tightening his grasp on his wand, Ted moved in the direction of the pitch, where he saw a few more of the Order members dueling. And, you know, it didn't hurt that it was away from the Whomping Willow-- to be completely honest, Ted had had enough of that silly tree. He didn't want to be worrying about it if he was going to be fighting somebody else. He had just darted past another fighting pair when he saw a shock of red hair. Red hair- it could only be one of two people that he could think of. But why would Lily-? He saw another redhead nearby and blinked. Merlin, not Tabitha again. Drawing himself up to his full height, he started toward them, taking a careful breath and reminding himself to keep a cool head. It would do no good to panic. Tabitha's lips curled into a grin: Someone new to play with. She was bruised and sore from the fight with Frank and Damocles -- and that fucking suit of armour -- but she was certainly well enough to continue fighting. She taunted Ted, beckoning him closer with an outstretched arm and curl of her finger before she lunged at the man, mouth hungry to shred and tear and rip into the weak, pathetic human. His whole body was still sore from his run-in with Fenrir and the Whomping Willow-- Ted couldn't help but find it a touch ironic that he was fighting against werewolves after everything he had done to try to help them previously. He paused in his tracks as she beckoned him, his wand coming up- "Impedimenta!" he cried, hoping to slow her down just enough to give him time to cast another hex in her direction. She caught him around the legs, and Ted fell backward to the ground with a low grunt. His wand slipped from his fingers and he scrabbled for it, forgetting it for a moment as he reached to shove Tabitha off him-- Merlin, but she was stronger than he remembered-- and one hand reached for his wand, fingers just wrapping around it as he tried to think of some spell- any spell- to push her back from him. Lily Potter was an excellent dueler, but being six months pregnant, she had quite the hard time maneuvering around. Her back was already killing her, but she had kept going. It had been a long while since she battled, and regardless of what James had to say about it, she was here in all of her pregnant glory hoping to somehow fend the Death Eaters off enough from Hogwarts. They were drastically outnumbered, but that never stopped them before. She was jogging over to the Pitch before seeing Ted Tonks in dire straits on the floor, wrestling a werewolf. Lily didn't even stop to think. "CONFRINGO!" she shouted, pointing her wand directly at Tabitha. From some distance away, Daniel heard Lily's shout and spun to see the redhead advancing on Tabitha and some one else. Well, that just would not do. With a low growl in his throat, he sprinted toward the group, clenching and unclenching his hands as he ran. He suspected it took some one who was either stupid or had quite a bit of gall to hex Tabitha that way. Even if it hit her, Daniel was sure she could take care of it herself. But, since he was right there, he dove toward Lily with his fingers (and consequently, nails) outstretched. The blasting curse struck Tabitha on her side, knocking her off of Ted and sending her rolling away on the grass. She raised her head with bared teeth, clutching her side as she looked to see who it was that attacked her. She spotted the red hair immediately, recognising Lily, and she snarled, screaming out at Daniel: "KILL HER. KILL HER!" She pushed herself up to her feet again, but she hadn't forgotten about Ted. She narrowed her eyes -- no, she would kill him in front of the redhead. Her attention was turned back to the man, and this time she went for his face, claws outstretched. Ted scrambled up to his feet, sucking in a breath at the sharp pain in his middle. He brought his wand up toward the male werewolf- "PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!" And then his attention was back to Tabitha as she turned back to him and he cast a stinging hex to her. He braced himself for her attack, free arm coming up to block his face as she came closer. As Tabitha screamed out to kill her, Lily watched as Daniel bounded forward in his bloodlust. All she could think of was to put up a quick shield charm, stumbling backward in the intensity of the moment. Looking over at Ted, her green eyes widened in fear. "TED! WATCH OUT!" Quickly, she cast a silent Revulsion Jinx on Tabitha, hoping both that it would hit and that her shield charm would hold up as well. In spite of his frustration at having been repelled by Lily's shield charm, Daniel was fortunate to have been near it when Ted's curse came at him, since he was able to hide behind it. Even if he'd been in fights like these before, having wizards cursing at him was never any less irritating. Growling low in his throat, he picked himself up and bristled at the redhead he knew he couldn't get anywhere near at the moment. But while she was warning Ted, he took the opportunity to swoop low to the ground, digging up a handful of dirt to throw at Lily's face. If he could find a way to get her to drop her shield charm, even just long enough to get his hands on her, that would be all he needed. While Ted had protected his face with his arms, there was nothing to protect Ted's arms from Tabitha's claws, and she lashed out at him, digging her claws roughly into his skin as she used the momentum and her body weight to try and push Ted down to the ground. Frustratingly enough, she couldn't hold on for long before once again Lily knocked her away with a spell, this time holding up her own arms to protect herself as she stumbled back from it. "Get her wand AWAY!" she yelled angrily at Daniel in her own frustration, wanting to just go help Daniel take care of her, but knowing this guy was probably too damn noble to let her. She looked back at Ted. "Come on, fight me. Fight me like a man," she taunted, scoffing at him. "Do you really need a little girl to come to your rescue? I've seen better spell work than that!" This time, she waited for Ted to make the first move. Lily was not prepared for the dirt flung at her face and she recoiled as it hit, stinging her eyes. She shouted in pain and outrage, stumbling backward and almost losing her balance which was already not so fantastic with being pregnant and all. Her shield charm petered out and she knew she was in trouble not knowing exactly what way Daniel was coming from. Sodding werewolves, as if they'd play fair. But did she really expect them to after breaking one of their ilk's legs a while back? Nothing would delight Lily more than to break either Daniel's or Tabitha's neck this time, that was for certain. Forcing her eyes open as tears streamed down her face, she blinked a few times before rather blindly casting a silent Confundo on the blurry moving form she hoped was Daniel. Ted was beginning to panic. The pain in his side was growing-- he was beginning to wonder if he'd broken a rib in that fight with Greyback. There was little time to think on that as Tabitha spoke to him; he cast a glance to Lily, his first instinct was to protect her and get her out of there, and, well, really- it went against his nature to be fighting like this. But he felt as though he had no other choice, so he fumbled slightly as he brought his wand up in Tabitha's direction and cast the first thing to come to mind- "Avis-" a flock of birds (not soggy, this time!) came flying out- quickly followed by another blasting curse. Tabitha's advice came too late for Daniel to do much of anything to get Lily's wand from her. Even after he'd tried to blind her, she still somehow managed to find him through the dirt and though her confundus curse hit him in the arm, rather than the chest, the effect was very much the same. He'd already been slightly disoriented from his earlier fight with Sirius Black, but now his wits were completely at odds with each other. He stumbled backward, looking down at Lily with a confused expression on his face, unsure of what he'd just been doing or thinking. Looking around to get a better sense of the situation, he noticed Ted and Tabitha fighting not far away. The rush of birds that came from the end of the man's wand both frightened and further confused him and he sank to the ground with his eyes wide and overcompensatingly alert, hoping to avoid them should they fly too close to the ground. What the fuck! How was he doing that? Once again, something unexpected -- Tabitha's arms flew up to protect herself from the birds flying towards her, ducking her head down as the flock swarmed around her. Distracted by the birds, she hadn't noticed the blasting curse until it was too late. She was knocked clear off her feet, landing on the grass with a sudden, sharp pain in her shoulder as it crushed against the ground from the force of her fall. She snarled from the pain, curling up and clutching her shoulder -- she could barely move her arm. She had to really shove with her good arm to move into a crouching position so she could stand up again. Even with only one usable arm, Tabitha remained relentless, immediately going for Ted: She focused on trying to grab or bite or scratch his wand arm, anything to get that damn thing away from him. Still rubbing her eyes from the dirt, Lily looked over at the successfully Confunded Daniel before turning to see Tabitha bounding toward Ted again after the blasting curse. "GET OFF OF HIM!" she yelled. Lily was not in the mood for Tabitha to hurt Ted anymore than she had already. They were going to get out of this alive so help her Merlin. All three of them were -- Ted, Lily, and her baby. "LOCOMOTOR MORTIS!" Ted wasn't quick enough to avoid Tabby's attack, and he found himself on the ground once more, his ankle twisted under him. He felt teeth sink into his arm and he cried out again, his hold tightening on his wand in an attempt to simply not drop it. His free hand forming a fist, he swung again at Tabby's face. Daniel was still distracted by the birds, but after a few minutes of looking up at them, he realized that if one decided to obey nature's call, he would be right in the line of fire. Fortunately, as things were growing more hectic with the other three, his attention began to come back a bit at a time. He could see well enough to know that Tabitha needed his help, but it took him a moment to coordinate his body and mind to pick himself up and run toward them in something of a zig-zag. Once he was close enough, he lept (or more accurately, fell) toward Ted, searching for anything onto which he could latch with his teeth and nails. "NOOOO TED!" Lily had a look of sheer panic on her face. Ted was going to die if she didn't do something fast. What would she tell Andromeda? No, it wasn't going to happen. Not if she had anything to do about it. Regardless of her physical state, Lily bounded forward as though she wasn't pregnant at all. She attempted to get view of Ted to cast a strong Flagrante Curse on him, hopefully good enough to harshly burn both Tabitha and Daniel and make them focus on her instead. Not even seeing if that hit, she pointed her wand at Tabitha and bellowed a second safety hex, "LEVICORPUS!" "No!" Ted called out to Lily, hoping she'd stop. He swung at Tabitha again, then shoved her back, trying to scramble back up to his feet. He struggled, his twisted ankle sending a sharp pain up his entire leg. He nearly dropped his wand again but quickly brought it up to shoot another hex toward Tabitha. He had just gotten the spell out when he was knocked to the ground again by the other werewolf. He hit the back of his head on the ground- whoa, that made him dizzy- and scrabbled for his wand. Grasping it again he cast a quick "Rictusempra- hoping to at least distract Daniel enough to shove him off of him. Unfortunately, Daniel had no means of protecting himself from the fire Lily sent at them and was hit with the curse and his clothes and hair went up in flames. He was too focused on Ted to immediately back off, but the next charm gave him little choice. He fell away from him, a chaotic ball of fire and hoarse laughter. The only fortunate thing about the combination of the two curses was that rolling around with laughter had the side effect of helping put out the flames. By the time he had quieted down, he was both badly burned and completely out of breath, not to mention extremely angry. With a great deal of difficulty, Daniel hoisted himself to his feet to reach for Tabitha. He couldn't take both Lily and Ted on his own in his condition, but maybe with a little help, he could manage it. Ted moved out of Tabby's reach and turned his wand back to Daniel-- Lily had Tabitha in the air, after all, and he cast a stinging hex before another blasting curse in his direction, hoping to send him back- hey, maybe he'd hit his head on something! Ted wasn't really wanting to kill if he could help it, but at this point it looked to be him or them, and he really didn't want it to be him. It hurt to stand, and once he'd cast the spells back at Daniel he turned his wand on himself, muttering a quick healing spell-- it didn't do much but lessen the pain; he knew he'd need to get to a healer as soon as he could. That done, he looked back to Tabitha, casting another spell- "Furnunculus!" Lily tried to keep Tabitha up in the air for as long as possible. Eventually the spell would have to wear off and she didn't know how long she was going to be able to hold this. She could already feel her strength fading, as spells held too long often did to wizards. Conjuring up enough energy inside of her, she pulled Tabitha up a few feet higher before attempting to drop her, head-first, into Daniel who was right below her. There was almost nothing she could do up in the air as she was, and when she saw Daniel reach for her, she stretched out her hands to try and grab onto his. But before their hands met, more spells were flying toward them and all Tabitha could do was flail helplessly in the air. She grabbed onto her clothes, and pulled herself up -- curling up in the air to avoid getting hit by the spell. But there was nothing she could do when Lily dropped her. She fell onto Daniel, dazed as they hit the ground and hit her head. She shoved herself off of Daniel with a snarl, clutching her head as she tried to get everything to stop spinning. Since the majority of his skin was covered in burns, Daniel was not pleased in the least that Tabitha fell on top of him, knocking him to the ground where the dirt scraped against his raw wounds. It was harder than last time to pick himself up again but he eventually managed it, only to lunge at Lily a moment later. He wanted to shred her skin like she'd shredded his and rip out her hair as payback for her having set his on fire. Adrenaline made him slightly more adept in spite of his injuries, but he was still significantly weakened. Even as determined as he was, there was no way he'd cause as much damage now as he would if he were fresh for the battle. Lily was out of breath. Her energy just wasn't the same since being pregnant. Wearily she looked up after Tabitha and Daniel had crashed into each other, and saw as Daniel got up, half-stumbling half-lunging toward her. All she could do was muster a weak, "Protego!" Ted couldn't quite help but snort with laughter as Tabitha crashed into Daniel. The laughter was short lived, of course, as Daniel started toward Lily. His wand came up, aiming at Daniel, and he cast a "Stupefy!" quickly followed by a conjunctivities curse, in case the first spell missed. His attention quickly returned to Tabitha, where he cast an impediment jinx, hoping to slow her up to give him enough time to help Lily. He wasn't sure if it hit, as his whole arm seemed to shake and Tabitha was moving about so much. Ted's spell sent Tabitha right down to the ground again, and she dug her claws into the dirt in frustration. More and more, she wished she was a witch, too. She wished she had magic. All she could do was borrow their powers with objects that already have spells on them. But she wasn't going to give up now. She knew they could beat them. After all, they were still just humans -- but Daniel and herself were so much more than that. They were the strong ones! She got to her feet again, focusing on Ted, and she lunged for him, going for his wand, his arm... anything she could grab onto. Daniel flew backward as he ran into Lily's shield charm and came to rest several feet away on the grass. Fortunately, the recoil threw him out of the path of Ted's stunner, but that didn't do much to quell his aggravation. He hated fighting wizards -- they had an unfair, cowardly advantage over them, even with their enhanced abilities. He just wanted to be able to get at them -- he knew that if he could, they wouldn't stand a chance. But there was no way he was going to get to Lily when she was protected, so he turned his attention to Ted and followed Tabitha's lead, lunging with his arms out to grasp onto anything he could. Together, they could tear him limb from limb. Ted stumbled back, his ankle nearly giving out under him as both werewolves turned on him. He gasped, bringing his wand up as he cast a quick shield charm-- he didn't know how well it would work; the spell felt weak, but then again, he felt rather exhausted. He cast another blasting curse in her direction and another toward Daniel, not even entirely sure if the spells would make their mark. Very grateful that her rather weak shield charm had done the trick, Lily turned around to see what exactly was happening now -- only to see Ted in a bind once more. Enough of this. She was very tired of the two of them, Tabitha and Daniel, constantly teaming up against Ted. Irate, she held her wand out, pointing directly at the male werewolf. "I said get off of him," she said with a piercing glare. Lily was growing rather weary of this fight. She threw a strong Severing Charm at Daniel and coupled it with a Reducto for an even nastier effect. Daniel let out a cry of pain when the Severing Charm hit the back of his arm and immediately drew back from the wizard, causing the blasting curse he'd just fired at him to miss by inches. Lily's curse, on the other hand, hit its intended mark and tore into the wound created by her previous charm. Howling with the sort of agony he'd never previously experienced, he reached to touch the wound and inspect the damage to see if he could stop the bleeding. What he felt there -- or rather, didn't feel there -- made his already sickeningly pale skin go even whiter. He'd lost his arm. That bitch had cut off his bloody arm. Normally, he'd have wanted to retaliate straight away, but it wasn't every day that he lost a limb and it was either the shock or the blood that he was very quickly losing that kept him from having any desire to do much of anything besides stare at the place where his arm used to be. Ted's blasting curse had successfully knocked Tabitha away again, and as she got back up -- a little slower now, feeling worn out -- but when she saw Daniel's arm get blasted off, she only stood there in shock for a moment before adrenaline pumped through her veins again, filled with rage. How dare she. She was going to kill her. Tabitha dashed forward to stand in front of Daniel, getting between him and the two of their attackers. "YOU BITCH!" she snarled, furiously, shouting loudly, her eyes locked on Lily. "I'm gonna fucking KILL YOU!" What in the hell was that? Or- who? Ted blinked, realizing that his was Not Good. "We should get out of here," he said softly to Lily. "Quickly." Lily wasn't surprised that her spell had done so much damage. A lot of anger had been pent up in it before it was sent. A part of her was very frightened, however, when she saw the looks on both Daniel and Tabitha's faces. She had readied her wand again, preparing for the worst, before a dark figure had caught her eye. Green eyes widened at the sight of him. Ted didn't need to tell her twice. She had to go find James, Sirius, Remus and Marlene and warn them all that Voldemort himself was here. "Let's go," she said to Ted, and with haste they both started down the hill to the Order's meeting place on the grounds for further instruction. She hoped James would be there. Tabitha turned away from the retreating forms of Lily and Ted to focus on Daniel, who seemed to be in a state of shock -- not that she blamed him. She made him sit down on the ground, kneeling beside him, trying to figure out what the hell she could do. She didn't have magic to just fix everything. She had to stop the bleeding. Tearing open the front of Daniel's shirt from top to bottom, she pulled it off of him, using the fabric to make a crude bandage around what was left of his arm. It was already soaking up with blood, but wrapping it up and putting pressure on the injury was all she could do. h. Ben(6), Graley(0) vs Aloysius(4), Mary(7) Graley vs Aloysius Graley looked around him as he walked, rubbing the back of his neck, knee a little stiff at this point. He could hear the sounds all around him and he was on the look out for people who did not look quite in place at the moment. Rubbing over his chin, he kept his wand out in front of him with his other hand, knees a little bit dirty from falling down earlier but he was unharmed thankfully. Well so far, he spotted someone who didn't look quite right to him, and although that meant a lot of things in his own world since his view of right was even more narrow than most, he still didn't recognize the person and therefore they were fair game as far as he was concerned. Raising his wand, he didn't even really bother to think about it before throwing a blasting curse at whoever the figure was. It had been sheer coincidence that Aloysius had been in camp when Rufus had sounded the alarm about an attack at Hogwarts. He'd been there to make use of some of the books, ostensibly for the more open plan he and Kate were working on for getting Jo out but actually for their much more secret plan but he'd made the quick decision that he was going. He was not going to stand out of this one. But when he arrived at Hogwarts, he almost regretted that decision. It looked like sheer chaos at first glance and there was nothing that was altering that initial assessment. There were people in masks and cloaks, people he knew were werewolves, hags and a few people he recognised from Dorcas' memorial... though he had no idea why they were here. He paused for a moment to assess the situation and work out the best thn for him to do. He had his wand in one hand and one of the silver knives he'd brought to Gairloch in the other. He had just made a decision to go and help a young woman had just come sprinting out of the bastle when he caught a flash of something out of the corner of his eye. He followed the young woman's lead and dropped to the ground, though his effort was far less graceful. He scrambled to his feet, casting a protective shield as he did so and focused on the masked man who had attacked him. He'd stated before that he knew how to fight and even knew more esoteric magic. Now was his chance to prove and hope that he didn't regret his earlier pugnacious words. He pointed his wand at the man and shouted, "Stupefy!" Graley knew how to fight, he had done it enough times in his life time, especially over the past year, to improve it and so when he heard the Stupefy, it wasn't hard for him to respond without a second thought, throwing up a shield charm with a small yell before he felt the charm hit and he dropped the shield a second later. "Confringo!" he said in reply throwing the curse at whoever this person was, followed by a Incendio aimed at his robes. Aloysius was inexperienced in fighting but he was a Ravenclaw, trained in logic. And the idea that a counterattack would follow his attack was really a no-brainer. So his shield was ready and easily deflected the first curse. He hadn't put up the strongest shield he knew though, not wanting to use up too much energy so early in matter. So the first curse took its toll on the shield and when the second one came along, it collapsed what was left of the shield, sending a weak wave of flames over Aloysius. He gave a yell and quickly beat out the flames before erecting another shield and flinging an Impedimenta followed by an Expelliarmus at his opponent. Graley was expecting the retaliation, but not so quickly and so when the Impedimenta came at him he wasn't prepared and was sent stumbling backwards before eventually falling down with a grunt, only to cast a Protego a second later when he heard the second spell, keeping his wand in his hand. He stood back up as quickly as he could, flinging a Confundo at his opponent followed by the Conjunctivitus Curse. Aloysius felt a sense of triumph when his spell caused the Death Eater to fall. It made him feel a lot better about his ability to fight, which had been dented somewhat by Rufus' persistent refusals in the past and even Pepper's dubious reactions. He squared his shoulders and put up a shield just in time to block the first spell that came his way but it was weakened enough that he had to take it down and before his could get another shield up the second spell hit him. He gave a pained yell and clapped a hand over his eyes, staggering away and casting another Impedimenta in the general direction that the spell had come from. he then concentrated on trying to reverse the effects of the spell as much as he could. Graley shielded the attack from the other man, moving out of the way as well so it wouldn't hit him, not wanting to go down. As soon as the spell passed him, he cast another Conjunctivitus Curse at the other man, knowing if he couldn't see, then it would make it a lot harder for him to attack him and do any sort of damage. Stepping to the other side, he raised his wand and cast an Expluso at him, keeping up with his double attacks. Aloysius managed to clear his eyes just enough to see and duck the second Conjunctivitus spell coming towards him but his visions was still blurred and his eyes watering copiously so he entirely missed seeing the Expulso which hit the ground at his feet. The resulting explosion sent him flying, dirt and rocks whipping into him. He hit the ground hard, right on one of the rock dislodged by the explosion and he heard a rib crack and then a sharp pain in his side. He gasped with pain but somehow managed to point his wand at his attacker and gasp out, "Silencio!" Graley felt the spell hit him and suddenly he couldn't talk as he opened his mouth and pointed his wand, trying to get something out at the other man, but he couldn't and he was annoyed at this as he pointed his wand again. The silent spells were getting slightly harder as time went on and he frowned, looking at the other man and concentrating a little bit harder before casting a Deprimo at him carefully aimed before he worked to cast a Finite Incantium on himself. Aloysius used the brief respite to magically bind his ribs, his eyes still watering though now as much from the pain as the Conjunctivitus. He couldn't do it very well as it had to be over his robes but it was enough to give him at least some relief. He was beginning to think that next time he should listen to Pepper and Rufus when they suggest he stay out of the damn fights. He hadn't exactly covered himself with glory here. He was hurt... and he suspected a bit more hurt than he thought... and the best he'd been able to do to his opponent was shut him up. He looked over at the Death Eater just in time to see the spell heading towards him. He had no time to duck and the best he could do was get a shield around himself. The spell still hit him with a huge amount of force and Aloysius felt as though he had been punched in the stomach by an elephant as he was once again thrown backwards, smashing into the base of the Quidditch stadium. He lay in the lee of the stand above him and gasped with pain, only able to get up a weak shielding charm in between gasps. Graley was able to talk now as he watched his opponent crash against the wall of the stadium a pleased smirk on his face as he walked closer, wand outstreached as he aimed at the other man's robes carefully. "Incendio!" he said loudly, taking another step forward to finish it off when he heard something and he turned, watching as the Dark Lord arrived, not paying any attention to the other man, figuring that he wasn't something he needed to worry about right now. Aloysius' shielding spell was only able to block a marginal amount of the spell cast at him and his robes burst into flames. He gave a shout, adrenaline rushing through him, waking him up and blocking the pain enough for him to cast an Aguamenta over himself. The flames were quenched in an instant and Aloysius braced himself for the next attack only to find his opponent looking away. He followed the man's gaze and saw someone who could only be Voldemort walking onto the grounds of Hogwarts. He stared for the briefest moment then logic reared its ugly head. He was injured, he was facing a superior opponent in experience and Voldemort had just arrived. He could not hope to win this in a fight. He had to get out of here, into the castle at the very least. Graley turned his head back towards his opponent and saw that he was gone and he bared his teeth and let out an annoyed noise. "Well, fuck," he muttered under his breath before turning, seeing where his Master stood and he decided he could be of more use there, to watch as they finally claimed the final deserved victory. Checking once more to make sure that the other man was indeed gone he headed towards where the fight was beginning. Mary vs Ben There were times when Leoben was almost unnaturally patient. Tonight was not one of those nights. With a working knowledge of what the Inner Circle was planning for tonight, he was pacing around in front of his fireplace, already in full black Death Eater garb. The only thing that was missing was the mask and even that was sitting face up on his desk, reflecting the flickering fire light. And yes, there just as he watched the minute hand round the six, the Mark on his arm seared, suddenly jet black against his skin. Leoben collected his mask and disappeared with a hurried pop. All around him were the sounds of battle and without a second of hesitation, Ben drew his wand, looking for an opportunity to engage one of the fools that dared to stand against them. And yes, there. A woman definitely younger than him, but perhaps not by much. With a flick, he threw a Conjunctivitis Hex at her. He knew from far too recent experience how debilitating that particular curse could be. Mary had been in the library when suddenly there was a flurry of activity in the castle. Armour was walking the halls, and she could hear the sounds of battle outside. She ran to the window and looked outside, only to see cloaked figures engaged with other figures, different colours of light casting an eerie glow over the world below. She hesitated for a moment, only a moment, knowing that she could well be blowing her 'dead' cover by going outside the front doors. But she was a trained duelist, and this was an attack on what was now her home. She couldn't just stand by. That wasn't the kind of person she was. Leoben put a shield charm up before either spell hit him, keeping him protected. For now, in any case. He had, by now, been in a handful of full scale battles and his moment of disorientation had dissipated before he'd even cast his first spell. "Incendio," he cast silently. It was quickly becoming a favourite of his. Especially here, when defence was not his priority. It was a quick slash of her wand, and a strong shield charm went up and deflected his incendio. She narrowed her eyes at the Death Eater, "You're gonna have to do better than that!" She shot off a sharp Stupefy and rounded to the left, circling around toward his right side, and casting, "Incarcerous" quickly after. Leoben's shield deflected the stunning hex, but the incarcerous hit his leg and was quickly trying to wrap itself around him. Enough. He hurled two blasting curses at her feet if only to give himself some time to diffindo the ropes winding up his leg. It only took a moment and then Ben's attention was back on his opponent. "Angor," he cast angrily, aiming right for her throat. She danced from one foot to the next, dodging his blasting curses, though the second sent a spray of debris across her face and she could feel the sting of the small cuts across her cheek. Mary went to shout another spell, but instead she choked, unable to get air into her lungs. She tried once, twice, but to no avail. She tried a silent Finite Incantatem, but it did nothing, and she cursed herself for not paying more attention when other duelers tried to teach her Dark Arts spells. She tried to breathe unsuccessfully again, and cast an angry, silent, stinging hex before she fell to her knees, trying desperately to breathe. A vicious smile pulled at Ben's lips behind his mask. He sidestepped the stinging hex with ease and kept all his attention on the curse. He wanted to see. He slowly crossed the space between them, ready to watch her suffocate at his will. There was only a foot or so between them when something crashed into the side of his head, breaking his concentration and likely fracturing his skull. Leoben stumbled to the side, almost losing his balance and seeing stars as his head reeled from the impact. Only narrowly did he miss a swipe of the sword, and he almost frantically cast a Revulsion jinx, sending the armour skidding back several metres. It at least gave him a little bit of time. His eyes flicked back to his original opponent, hoping to catch her before she could get back to her feet. "Sectumsempra!" The rush of air into her lungs was a relief, and she rested on all fours, gulping in great gasps of air that were like a cold glass of water on a sweltering day. It was only when she looked up and saw the armour being repelled away that she realised what had saved her. She didn't have time to dodge the spell, and hissed sharply as it dragged across her side. His leg tried to collapse under him, suddenly straining to hold his weight as parts of the muscle were hewn away. If Leoben had ever felt panic, this was quite close. He used another Revulsion Jinx against the armour to buy some time, but it would be short lived. He'd have to dispose of both of them quickly. "Ossiverso!" he half panted at his opponent, aiming for her arm, but really, would be quite happy if it hit her at all. She dodged his spell, or at least thought she had, unfortunately thinking he had aimed for her center rather than her arm. The spell hit her ribs and she screamed as her ribs twisted away from one another, and she arched back, stuck in a strange, almost statuesque position as the pain made her teeter on the edge of unconsciousness once more. The spell, unfortunately didn't last long. For as long as he had to focus, the suit of armour was making it's way right back toward him and broke Leoben's concentration as he twisted away from the sword, falling on his bleeding leg as he lost his balance. He rolled away from the sword again, automatically sending an incendio at it before remembering that fire probably wasn't likely to do anything against metal. At least not in short spurts. The sword grazed his side and this time, he growled, "Glassius!" in response. His back was turned to his other opponent for now, deeming the large, sword-wielding object to be a larger threat at the moment. The spell hit it's mark and the armour's joints started to freeze as the ice crept over it's surface and into the cracks. For the moment, he was safe. Or safer anyway, without the danger of being hewn apart by a normally inanimate object. And just as quickly as the pain came, it left, and once again Mary found herself on all fours, panting painfully. Her ribs screamed in agony, bent out of shape as they were, but she managed to get back to her feet, adreneline giving her the strength to keep going. His back was to her, and she cast Expelliarmus quickly, wanting to disarm him so she could get the upper hand. She cast Reducto right after, not caring about the fact that the spell could do some serious damage, but just wanting to end this duel now before she was injured even more than she was at the moment. Oh, the bad things that happened when one let their focus slip. Leoben's wand flicked out of his hand and he turned in anger and surprise just in time to see the spell coming at him. And he was defenceless without his wand. It hit him full in the chest and he was thrown back a handful of yards. And the pain, Salazar, the pain. His chest up to his right shoulder was mangled and bloody, much of the skin obliterated. For a moment, he couldn't feel at all, all his breath caught in his throat. When it washed over him, Leoben couldn't move, reduced to a heap in the grass. It was only by pure self-preservation that he pushed himself up enough to get to his hands and knees a full minute. And only happy chance that he spotted his wand lying in the space between them. Leoben crawled toward it, feeling a faint surge of triumph when his fingers closed around it. He muttered a shield charm and then looked across to the girl. "Crucio!" he hissed, more than happy to pay her back for the waves of pain shooting across his torso and arm. She shot an incarcerous at him, but it was deflected by his shield charm. She raised her wand to cast another, stronger spell, when she was hit and nearly thrown backwards. She writhed on the ground, her ribs cracking and snapping in their already weakened state, the pain unlike anything she had felt before. She didn't know how long it lasted, but it felt like eternity. And when the spell finally lifted, she found herself unable to move, barely able to breathe. She stared up at the sky above her as it spun, and tears slid down the sides of her face. She was going to die here. The only satisfaction she had with that thought was that it wasn't Demetrius, that it wasn't that bastard who got to finish her off. Slowly, Ben climbed to his feet, holding the curse for as long as he could before he had to stop, the pain in his chest overriding, for a moment, his need to torture the animal that did this to him. He glanced over the immediate area, finding no one close enough to engage him in the next few minutes or so (he hoped, anyway) and then stalked over to her prone form. He was going to make her suffer. Ben never had been the type to just kill and have that be that. His boot crunched down on her arm, right at the elbow. It was only to hold it in place. "Musculus mortis!" he growled, training the beam of light at her forearm. Mary struggled to get up; she could hear his steps crunching up to her, the uneven gait of his steps giving away his approach. As much as she wanted to, though, she couldn't, and she let her eyes lock on him as he came into her vision. She closed them, expecting death, expecting something other than his foot on her arm. Her eyes fluttered open, confused, and then there it was again. The pain. It was slow at first, a creeping burning until it was nearly agonizing. She writhed, trying to get away from him, but his foot pinned her and she was so close to delirium that her wand lay forgotten beside her. It was so strange, at least in her mind, that she had fought and dueled with Demetrius and he barely bested her. This man had the upper hand from the beginning, and while she had managed to hurt him rather decently (or so she thought), she'd never caught up. Was it her ire of Demetrius that had kept her going? Or her lack of practice in the previous weeks that had led to this? Or maybe she'd just not been ready for battle. Either way, the searing pain was creeping, slowly, across her forearm and it took everything in her not to scream. She glared at him and through gritted teeth managed to growl out, "Coward. Why not-- just-- finish it?" Leoben kept his concentration, watching the effects of the spell spread with such a feeling of wonder and victory that he could only smile behind his mask at her question. Green eyes, the only part of his face that was actually visible behind the mask almost glinted with delight. He hurt, yes. And just as soon as he had killed her, he knew he would feel it more than he was now. But right now, he wasn't taking a proper tally of his injuries, trying desperately to ignore the blood pouring down his side. But he was good at this. This part, he liked. Quite a lot. "Because my Lord deserves your screams," he said softly, and then redoubled his efforts on the spell. "Scream for him." She writhed again in pain, but her fingers brushed up against her wand. Her salvation. She let her fingers wrap around it as she moved, hissing sharply to keep herself from following his command. She would not scream for his Lord. She would not. "Your... Lord," she managed to get out in a mocking voice amid the strain, "is a fool. You want... me to scream?" She drew in a great breath and her eyes moved from his to the frozen metal statue not 2 meters behind him, "REDUCTO" she shouted, her wand aimed at the armour he had frozen so well, and she fell back quickly, her arm covering her face as shards of metal flew everywhere from the explosion. She heard shouts and screams of terror, and she peeked out from behind her arm to see people fleeing into Hogwarts. But why? Ben was not so lucky. The armour exploded and he was thrown sideways. Breathing had already been difficult at best but now it was near impossible. He felt utterly dazed, only barely noting people running past, the screams falling on nearly deaf ears. He laid quite still for a moment, until a sharp pain made itself more and more present somewhere along his side. Finally, he lifted his head enough to see what had been part of a helmet embedded into his ribs. Blood was flooding his mouth and he was dizzy. But out of the corner of his eye, he saw their hope and faith. Fear gripped him for a moment and was quickly replaced with awe. He couldn't help but watch. What awed Ben terrified Mary, and her fear gave her enough strength to roll onto her stomach, push up from the ground, and follow the fleeing people. Her progress felt agonizingly slow, but she wouldn't, couldn't turn around to see the duel that was transpiring behind her. She made it up the main steps, her heart pounding in her chest, and through the main doors. Her eyes scanned over the people who had fled, and she went to turn around, to look out the doors at Dumbledore, but her blood, her injuries, rebelled against her, and she crumpled to the floor in a messy heap. i. Walden(1), Iago (2) vs Kate(3) Kate responded to the alarm in Gairloch immediately, apparating to the Hogwarts grounds and making her way through the battles, a shield charm around her. All thoughts about Gawain, and Elle, the safety of her friends and colleagues had to be safely tucked away. As well she needed to put away any thoughts of what had happened the last time she was in a battle on the Hogwarts grounds. With any fortune, she would be a stronger dueller than she had been last time, but regardless she needed to focus and to concentrate. As she took the path up towards the castle, she found herself face to face with two Death Eaters and thankfully, some statues from Hogwarts that seemed to be taking this assault against the castle rather personally. "Expelliarmus," she pointed her wand at one of the Death Eaters, shooting a tripping jinx in the direction of the other one. The duel with Aberforth had not gone the way Walden would have liked and he cursed the old man quietly as he held his recently broken wrist. It would only make sense that it was his wand arm. The instrument was now in his left hand and he turned it idly as he tried to find a comfortable hold. When Kate came into view Walden grumbled. She looked young and he thought he'd seen her before. Auror, he thought. It didn't really matter who she was, in the end. He cast a shielding charm and kept a hold of his wand, though it was much more difficult for him now that he was using an untrained arm. "Stupefy!" The stunning spell left his wand with a jolt and he urged himself to get control, ignoring the pain that pulsed from his wrist and the other injuries he'd sustained. Kate would likely have been hit by the spell if it had not been for a boar statue that stepped into the line of the spell. She was thankful for it, as it would have been hugely embarrassing to have been stunned just as she arrived into battle. One couldn't precisely thank a statue for keeping them on their feet, so she just decided to make it worth the statues while, by actually making a difference in this battle. She took a stance, watching as the Serpent seemed to be engaging the other Death Eater with a series of spells that she would not have wanted to defend against. It looked to her that the Death Eater she was fighting at the moment might be fighting with a hand other than his normal, and she set her jaw, she was going to take advantage of that. "Rictusempra," she cast the spell as quietly as she could do so that he hopefully would not be able to expect it. She then followed that by a Jelly fingers jinx sent straight towards his wand hand. In his previous battle he'd been slow to block spells and he found the same true for his encounter with the female. The jinx hit his hand and he felt his fingers lose all tension. Walden lost the grip on his wand but he caught it with his injured hand, wincing as he did so. With searing pain he pointed the wand at a decent sized rock and shouted "Accio!". The object flew to his hand and there was more pain and he flung his arm forward, pitching the rock in the direction of her head. As the rock soared he reversed the jelly jinx and followed his attack with a weak blast from the tip of his wand. Kate's eyes widened at once as the Death Eater sent a rock hurdling towards her head. "Impedimenta!" She exclaimed quickly, giving herself enough time to side step it so that it flew safely overhead. Unfortunately for Kate she would not get out of it quite so easily as she ended up still getting the edges of the blasting curse. A stronger one might have seriously damaged her, but as it was, it merely threw her backwards a short distance, where she landed on her rear, her wand still tightly grasped in her hand. The Boar statue seemed to take that occurrence as the opportunity to actually step in and rush the Death Eater, while Kate scrambled to her feet, brushing the grit out of her hands. Walden had not expected to have the Boar come after him but he reacted quickly. His wand was back in his left hand and with a confident flourish he produced a perfect stunning spell that engulfed the stone animal. The hold wouldn't last long, especially since the creature was one of Dumbledore's creations, but it would buy him enough time to deal with the Auror. He was already back on her feet and he grit his teeth. Walden extended his arm again and with another twist of his left hand he cast a non-verbal Cruciatus, the beam of light flashing from the tip of his wand like a bullet. Kate was thankful for the Boar's distraction, but the distraction had not been quite enough to keep her in the lead. Walden's Cruciatus hit her and she practically dropped her wand with the pain of it. It was not the first time she'd been hit with the Unforgivable, and if this war were to continue, it would likely not be the last, but every single time she cried out, the pain was worse than she even remembered it being almost as if her mind blocked those moments out forever. Walden loved using the Cruciatus. He didn't enjoy it as much as some people but there was some enjoyment from watching an enemy in total agony. He smiled when she cried out and he stepped closer to increase the pain, holding his wand steady in his weaker hand. Walden was about to lift the curse so he could finish the job but his Stupefy had worn off and the Boar charged again and this time it clipped one of Walden's legs. He kicked at the stone beast and immediately regretted it. He'd momentarily forgotten the Boar was made of rock and as his toe throbbed he swore and growled. The animal swung around to charge again and Walden planted his feet and pointed his wand. "Deprimo!" and another flourish followed by another loud incantation. "Expulso!" He fired off two more blasts and then, for good measure he shouted, "Avada Kedavra! The statue shuddered and then exploded, sending shards of rock in every direction. As the Cruciatus broke off, Kate managed to shudder and after a moment's hesitation she pulled herself to her feet in time to see the Death Eater throwing what could only be termed a temper tantrum at the large stone statue that had been assisting her. It would have been comical under different circumstances, but she decided that she wasn't going to waste time waiting for him to figure out that she'd recovered. "Incendio," she cast, and the string of fire shot from her wand towards him and she winced as the statue exploded. That... well, was a shame. The beast had been rather helpful and together they might have had a chance. By herself - well, no she would have a chance - she was not going to end up this time as she had last time. "Protego!" His shield blocked the flames and they shot off and ignited a bush nearby. His wrist was on fire but he ignored it, stepping closer to Kate. It took concentration and perfect technique with his untrained wrist but a blue stream of sparks flew from the tip of his wand as his non-verbal had commanded. The light wrapped around her arm like a serpent and he pulled his wand closer to his chest which caused her arm to bend. If he kept the spell in place her arm would stretch with his movements, bend with his own bends, and it would eventually snap. He wished he could be lucky enough if only to see the look on her face. Damn, Kate thought briefly as she realised that the flames had not engulfed his entire being, which was rather what she'd hoped for them to do. She raised her wand to cast another spell when the light from his wand engulfed her arm and pulled it, tugging it in ways that it should never have been forced to go. Her wand in the hand of the arm being bent, Kate found herself once again in pain and at the mercy of the Death Eater in front of her. But this time there was no Statue that might jump in to rescue her. Her eyes widened, staring at the arm as it moved at his command, crying out as it twisted uncomfortably. At the moment she felt almost no qualm at all about using the cruciatus curse back on him, however illegal it might be to do so. But for now she simply had to get the use of her arm back. Walden watched her face with fascination as he continued to twist his wand. Her arm was extended in front of her now so that she could see what was happening. There was no sense in depriving her of something to look at. He took a few more slow turns of the wand just for his own enjoyment and then he pulled his arm back and then flipped his wand quickly, causing her arm to jerk and then bend. The sudden movement caused Kate's entire arm to pop from the shoulder socket and there was a crack that accompanied it as a bone in her arm snapped from the pressure and sudden movement. Walden grinned beneath his mask, thrilled to finally have the upper hand for what seemed like the first time that evening. Kate screamed as her shoulder seemed to move almost of its own accord, but it was not - it was the Death Eater and she gaped at the useless arm beside her, wand still grasped in the hand. She felt anger rise in her at how easily he'd been able to render her wand arm useless. With her left hand she reached for the wand, pointing it at the Death Eater and with actual intention she threw his cruciatus back at him, albeit perhaps somewhat less focused and more clumsily cast than it might have been had she been casting the spell using her proper hand and not distracted by pain coursing through her side. It did not bother her that the spell was technically still illegal, or that its sole purpose was to cause pain - right now she wanted to cause pain. She was so tired of tents. wilderness. cold showers. bugs. worms. jo being brainwashed into a passive queen. And right now all of her frustrations from four months of living like a criminal were focused into this one Death Eater and she sincerely hoped he felt every single one of them. Kate's Cruciatus hit Walden and he felt the pain move through him like a fire. He'd been cursed before but it had been stronger. He could feel her anger and it fueled him. He lifted his leg and kicked her hand hard, hoping to knock the wand away. Kate had not been expecting him to kick at her hand, and it startled her, breaking her concentration, and the curse with it. She backed up, keeping her hold on the wand, and casting an instant shielding charm before he had a chance to recover. She was going to cast him with fire again, and perhaps a cutting curse as well, but it was at that moment that she became aware of screams, and she turned around and froze at the sight of - HIM - He whose name she really didn't even want to think because what if it drew his attention to her? Kate was no Gryffindor. She had never been a foolish brave type of woman, relying instead upon sheer determination and hard work to be a good Auror, and this was not the day she wished to start. As the tell tale green light flew from his wand, Kate forgot about the fact that she'd had any plans for the Death Eater in front of her, and casting a second shield charm behind her, she ran for the castle, only worried that Gawain might not be there - and praying that he wouldn't stay behind to be potentially injured or killed. Walden had intended on killing her but he was equally distracted by the new sounds pervading the air. There was a feeling of terror spreading over the grounds and he saw the familiar green flash. His opponent was gone but he didn't care. Perhaps she would meet her end at the hands of another. For now he would compose himself and head back towards the center of the grounds to where Voldemort was gathering.

3. Reinforcements arrive; BASH! (cont)
Somewhere along the way, Ted had lost track of Fenrir Greyback. He wasn't sure if it was the Whomping Willow, or one of the hits the werewolf had gotten in, but he knew that it hurt. Nothing seemed to be broken, at least- he'd managed a few easy healing spells to bandage up some of the more serious looking cuts. But now- where in the hell had Greyback gone off to?
The spell tripped her up, but Tabitha caught herself on her hands and knees -- she snarled, glaring up at Ted in her fury. She vaguely recognised him; he must have been someone she fought before. It was just so hard to remember everyone. Even on the ground, she kept going to him, running her tongue along the edges of her teeth as she remembered the man of whose kneecap she removed with her husband -- and that only added fuel to her rage. Aaron wasn't here, and Tabitha lunged for Ted's legs.
Lily's spell whizzed by just above Tabitha's head as she and Ted fell to the ground, and as soon as that sweet, sweet taste of blood began to fill her mouth, she bit down harder. She grabbed the wrist of his wand arm to try and hold him still, but she hadn't accounted for the man using his fists. The punch hit her solidly on the side of the face, and she pulled her head back, tearing away flesh and muscle with her teeth from Ted's arm as she did, momentarily dazed from the blow.
Once again, Tabitha's cloak had come in handy: As soon as she saw the flames approaching her, she pulled her cloak up, still amazed as the cloth protected her from the flames as if it were made of steel. But her cloak couldn't protect her from everything. Lily's spell caught her ankle, pulling her up and off of Ted until she was hanging upside down in the air. Ted's hex slashed across her arm, a deep cut oozing blood down along her skin, staining her clothes. Tabitha snarled in fury at being left so helpless, and she tried to grab at Ted, at Lily, at anything to get back down to the ground.
But before she could even act out on her threats, a shadowy figure was passing through the gates and onto the grounds of Hogwarts, and even Tabitha felt fear at the sight of him. She had to remind herself that he was on their side, taking a step back towards Daniel and turning to grin at Ted and Lily. She didn't say anything, though -- if they wanted to stay and fight, she wasn't about to stop them.
Ted watched, stunned, as Daniel's arm disappeared before his eyes. At least- it had been there a moment ago and now it was- well, gone. His wand arm came up as Tabitha rushed forward, but his attention was soon distracted by-

He took the opportunity presented by his attacker's distracion and crawled into the underbelly of the stadium, pain shootng through him with every move. He'd been here once before when he'd gotten curious about the structure of the place and before McGonagall had caught him and dragged him out by the scruff of the neck. He could crawl around closer to the castle and get in that way.
So she turned on her heel and sprinted out of the library, down the main flights of stairs, pulling her currently blonde hair back into a ponytail until she burst onto the front lawn. There was so much going on, she wasn't quite sure where to turn. She began to run onto the grass, when a spell came flying at her. She tucked and rolled, somersaulting under the spell and back onto her feet. She sprinted toward the assailant and shot off a tripping jinx followed by an Expelliarmus. This wasn't her first time dueling for her life (thank you, Demetrius Mulciber), but it was her first time in battle. The smell of spent spells, shouts, screams, and flashes of light were distracting, but she was determined to endure through it. She had to protect her home.
"Incendio!" she cried out, unable to focus to cast quietly or even silently. She got to her feet and ignored the pain in her side, her knees bent as she settled into a ready position. She cast a shield charm quickly, hoping to avert the spell he sent at her next.
Salazar, this was a mess. The flames caught him along his side, managing to light his robes... and skin. Leoben cried out in pain, not helped along by the suit of armour. He managed to get out of the way enough to avoid a deep cut, but the sword fell across his leg anyway, the blade biting into his thigh.
