Fred was busily trying to clear things up in the workshop Neville had afforded himself and George within 7 Oddington. They had just finished a very messy experiment and scouring charms were having little effect. “This is not good....” well, the mess was not good, the experiment however was a success and George had gone running to finalize the charms on the said product that resulted in spatters and scorch-marks. “Yeah, don’t offer to help or anything.... wanker!” Fred called after his twin when he was left in the debacle.
When he was finished, and had sufficiently cleaned himself up as well, he headed downstairs for something to eat. Finding the kitchen empty was unusual and wonderful, though as soon as he sat down with a huge sandwich and a pint of ale, an unfamiliar owl swooped into the open verandah doors that backed onto the yard and greenhouses.
Fred sipped at his ale and took the letter from the barn owl’s leg and fed him a treat before sending it away. Flipping it over, he noticed it was addressed to Neville, from London. Fred knew very little of what was going on with Neville - what with his Dad passing away, he seemed to be cheering up a little, he wished his new brother didn’t have to keep receiving news that would upset him. But it seemed to be going around with everyone those days.
So slowly, Fred meandered into Neville’s extensive greenhouses until he found him untangling vines from off of his arm, seemingly coaxing them off with gentle words until he had them righted. “Nev.... uh, there was an owl that came for you. Here, it had this.” Fred stepped back cautiously as his brother-in-law took the letter and sighed deeply. “Is it about your mum mate?”
