Alice seemed satisfied with that answer about Frank, not looking into prying further at the moment. Just pleased that while she was in here for whatever was wrong with her, her baby was being well cared for and loved by the rest of their family.
She couldn't seem to pry her eyes from the photo, a solid, tangible thing in this scary and uncertain world. And anchor against the sea raging around her, a sea that she seemed to drown in and didn't understand why, when she should know how to swim.
She did look up again, blue eyes vague, and nodded in acknowledgement, but immediately went back to gazing at the photo as if unaware that she was on the floor.
