RP: The (part) Veela and the playboy
Date: 14 June 2006
Characters: Guilian Montague, Gabrielle Delacour
Location: Casino of Casino of Sidi Al'Nasir
Private/Public: Private, although anyone at the casino is welcome to see them.
Rating: ?
Warnings: -
Summary: Guilian is still at the Casino, and meets a very charming and beautiful diversion.

Guilian came back down from his rooms to join the dinner crowd. He hoped and prayed his father had been wise enough to go home. The last thing he needed was to truly get angry at Don.

No, he was going to enjoy the evening, and hopefully find something to divert his attention from the worries on his mind.

He decided to move to the bar, knowing for certain his father would not be in this part of the Casino. That's when he spotted a very, very appealing woman, one who was more than likely to be quite the diversion, at least for a while.

As soon as his eyes fell on her, he was mesmerised. That blonde hair, those deep eyes, and a smile that he knew would most literally light up a room. He couldn't help but stare, yet there she was, a vision of loveliness.

His sense of chivalry took over almost instantly, as he moved down to the bar towards her. He couldn't recall seeing her there before - he certainly would have noticed. But it seemed like he was just drawn to her, and he had almost tripped over his own feet before he realised that somehow, his pull to her was not natural. The dark magic spoke to him, telling him it wasn't quite right. Was it a spell, or something a little more natural?

He didn't know, but he was now right next to her, and he gave her his widest smile. "Good evening. Am I right in thinking you've not been her to the Casino before?" It seemed like all his smooth pickup lines had just failed him on the spot. That was lame, but well, honest.

"I'm Guilian, by the way. Guilian Montague. The pleasure is all mine."

Gabrielle was quite content in the fiery dress she had bought in the afternoon with Morag- one of several selections. While more feminine pastels usually agreed with her, this outfit made her feel like her Veela glow had become a moth-attracting flame. ...Except the moths were men, and she was really a very nice person! ...She was glad she did not talk about that particular metaphor out loud; it was awkward.

Her first precious rendezvous happened like clockwork. No drink had been fetched yet, and Gabrielle was merely smiling at the scenery when the eyes hit her. As usual, she pretended not to immediately notice, though she was giggling wildly through her teeth. She also pretended not to see him stumble, and not to find his 'come here often' line as tired as it was.

What she could not imagine her way out of, though, was that he was madly attractive, and carried with him the air of a rather unpleasant night. La, what had happened to the poor thing? All at once, toying with him seemed cruel. Instead, she suddenly, painfully wanted to make him smile.

"Nous verrons ce que nous verrons," she thought to herself, before putting on her best innocent face and saying "Bonjour. My name, eet eez Gabrielle Delacour, and you are vairy correct. I 'ave not been 'ere before, but ehm..." She looked right into his eyes, hoping to see him brighten, before adding, "I like eet."

Guilian didn't let the genuine smile on his own lips fade. When he heard the French accent in her speech, he seemed relieved.

He returned her greeting in flawless French. "Bonjour, Madamoiselle Delacour." That dress was sending out signals that nobody in the room could miss. "Welcome to the Casino Sidi Al'Nasir. I'm Guiliano Montague, and I must say that you are a very welcome sight this evening." She truly was. That dress she wore was utterly amazing, and he could see the fire in her eyes reflected in the shimmer of the fabric."

"Would you allow me to buy you a drink. That is, of course, unless you are waiting for someone?"

She was glad to see his mood improving so quickly, and moved a bit to allow him a seat, if he so wanted.

And he spoke French! Knowing she was much more eloquent in her native tongue, the girl switched over, as well. "Guilliano," she repeated, trying to keep her grin from spreading as she heard the name Montague again. Antonin had been right about the type of people that hovered in this place. "Being welcome in a strange place is one of the very best things, do you not agree?"

Gabrielle was to a point with men that she was somewhat numb to constant flirting, and took a bit of time to pick up on it. Without any underlying message or meaning, she brightly said, "I am told zat I must try ze champagne, and... pair'aps I 'ave been waiting for you!"

Guilian saw the light sparkling in her eyes when he spoke French, and knew he'd made the right move in speaking her native tongue. Of course he knew of the Delacours. Another fine French family. With undoubtedly beautiful women.

The way she said his name reminded him for just a second of Opal, but he shook away the memories of her, may she rest in peace. "Well I would hate to think any young woman would not enjoy a warm welcome in such a place."

At the request, he turned to the waiter, still speaking in flawless French, ordering up the finest bottle of Veuve-Clicquot champagne they had. He might not still have his father's unlimited patronage at the club, but he did have his own investments. He could afford it.

When she said she had possibly been waiting for him, he managed a rather joyful laugh. Who would have thought his mood could be so distracted by such a beauty?

"Well it seems the fates have smiled upon us both." When the champagne arrived, Guilian handed Gabrielle a glass. "Should we make a toast, Gabrielle?" He allowed himself to say her name, hearing how it sounded on his own tongue. It seemed to belong there.

Her eyebrows peaked a bit when Guilian chose a bottle. Normally, she would have worried that her charms were again driving a man to lavish displays that he could not afford, but in this case... it was likely all right.

Guilian seemed almost completely detached from whatever unpleasantry she had seen in him a mere moment ago. Were people not staring, she would have literally given herself a pat on the back. Endowing others with happiness was her life's mission, she thought.

Taking the glass, her pale fingers unavoidably touching his for a flash of a moment, she giggled. "If that is what you have deemed appropriate," she agreed in French. "Though you are the regular at this Casino. You can choose what toast to!"

...She could already predict what sort of romantic drivel he would come up with, like those before him. At least he was a pleasure to look at.

Guilian allowed his fingers to innocently brush against hers as she took the proffered glass of champagne.

At her insistence, he nodded graciously as he thought of an appropriate toast. He only had to take a moment, thinking on his rather... tumultuous afternoon after talking to Don.

"To new beginnings, to new places and new friends." He gave her a very sultry smile.

Their glasses tinkled softly as they clicked, and he took a small sip. "So have you seen anything here at the Casino that you like? They say there is something for absolutely everyone."

"Oui oui," she said simply in response. The toast was cliche- en garçon- but acceptable. She politely took a sip from her glass. It was by no means her first champagne, but it was probably the best, and the blonde found herself wondering about what else in Guilian's life could be so elegant. She ran a finger through her own soft hair in serene contemplation.

At first, Gabrielle missed her cue, and started chattering idly. "Well, there are many sounds that overlap each other in certain areas- dealers, conversations, machines, music... this fascinates me, as a singer." She smiled, pausing to think again about her upcoming vocal recordings.

It was then that she realized what he was actually looking for, and just barely blushing, she laughed through the statement, "Ah, and you, Guiliano. Of course that." It was a silly mistake, but hopefully her Veela glow would compensate for the slip-up in flirtation. Taking another sip, she managed to wink in his direction, saving herself a bit of embarrassment.

Guilian could not help but be mesmerised as she let her fingers run through her hair. Of course, the thought of his own fingers doing the same immediately followed that thought, and he continued the smile that seemed to not want to leave his face.

It was as if her arrival was like a ray of sunshine that had warmed its way into the Casino, outshining all that surrounded him.

Hearing her idle conversation, his curiosity was piqued. "Oh, so you are a student of music? But of course you must be. With a voice that is so beautiful when speaking, you must be truly gifted when it comes to song." he seemed fascinated, and truly was, as he forgot all his own concerns. But then he laughed, almost waving away her direct answer. "Well yes, of course."

"Have you had a chance to hear any of the entertainment on offer this evening? Or were you perhaps planning on gracing us all with the gift of song?"

Guilian's presence intrigued Gabrielle, because like the champagne, he was like nothing she had met before. Something hung about him; it was invisible, but it carried weight, and she could feel it, heavy in the air. Her nearness seemed to drive him to ignore it, though, so she gave it little thought.

'Student' did not seem the correct word, and Gabrielle gladly explained herself. "Actually, I am a teacher!" she clarified with pride. "I educate the children at a primary school with my sister Fleur, and I use music as my primary and favorite tool. Yes, I am a singer, and it is my true passion. I actually came to London to do some recordings at Soho Studios." Every time she mentioned it, it made her happier.

"Oh, I think Antonin would be a bit startled if I took matters into my own hands like that and sang here," she said, though the notion made her heart quicken. Trying to shake it off, she said, "You could always, ehm, be one of my first buyers..."

Suddenly, the music heard around them seemed unpleasant next to what she knew she could do. She had to save it, though... save it for her time at Soho. This stranger's opinion didn't have to matter, but he was looking at her in a way that was hard to dismiss.

When she said she was a teacher, Guilian's interest was raised. So, a woman of substance and beauty. Gabrielle was more intriguing by the minute.

"Then you are truly a woman of substance." Guilian raised his glass to her in a toast. "It must be truly wonderful to follow your dreams. Being able to record... Congratulations." His wishes were genuine. It seemed that fortune was favouring the beautiful tonight.

Guilian wondered who this Antonin was, and he pushed away a sense of jealousy that seemed to creep into his words at the mention of a man's name. "Well perhaps you might want to give me a sneak peek at what I would be buying. I like to think I'm an astute investor. Not that I doubt your talents, they seem... immeasurable."

"And you know that word of mouth sales are always the strongest."

Gabrielle raised her glass in return again, smiling politely. Though she clearly was influencing his senses, Guilian was strange to watch. It was like he was trying to fight her control with smooth words, and though it shamed her to say, it was beginning to work. This was not fair...!

Her cheeks turned pink at his encouragement. "Ehm," she peered about the room, looking just a bit less sure than before, "I do not think I am allowed to just... just take over the scheduled entertainment for the night, Guiliano." The man's goings-on about his money made her want to be rebellious, though, as he could truly be of service to her future. Lee Jordan was a humble man, and did not hold the sway of a name like Montague.

She could not believe she was about to say what she was about to say, and she took a rather large swig of champagne before putting on a pretty face and making an entirely uncharacteristic suggestion. "If it means that much to you- if it really, really does- and believe me, I would never say anything like this to someone I just met if I did not think it truly meant something to them, but..." Her hands reached nervously for her own hair as she kept smiling. "Maybe I can show you later? I mean... by ourselves? You know, for business!"

...She knew right away that it was a terrible thing to propose. Her eyes became saucer-sized. Fleur would likely kick her out of the house and disown her or something if she heard of her little sister's debauchery! And Morag, Morag would take one of her new pairs of shoes and choke the Veela's lovely voice right out of her! The younger Delacour put her glass down and moved to stand up. English clumsily left her lips. "I am sorry, ehm... eet eez late. My friends, zey would prefair eet eef I returned to zem!"

Guilian felt a small thrill of victory at her blush. It offset the beautiful gown she wore, and bathed her face in an ethereal glow.

She seemed just a little unsure, and it probably was a little forward to just interrupt when the current singer went on a break. "But what is the gift of song if nobody hears it?" He would let her mull over that. "There are no rules about just singing to yourself, of course."

His words had been rather forward, and judging from her rather nervous reply, she was not used to such advances. His smile brightened when she somewhat agreed, and was stipulating business terms. Was she truly this innocent, or was she playing with him too?

But just as suddenly as she agreed, it was as if the room went cold, and she started to speak English, stammering that she needed to go back to her friends. He had to think fast before he lost her - and lost all reason to enjoy the rest of his evening. "Oh, no, please, I didn't mean to offend - I truly would like to hear you sing." He backpedalled slightly on the flirtatious tone.

"I really would love to hear you sing, and I really would love to know if you are interested in an investor. Purely business, of course." She'd not mentioned her friends until now, and he hoped she would stay just a while longer. Perhaps he could get her to relax.

"I would not presume to be any more forward than that, Mademoiselle Delacour." Perhaps it was the champagne, or the intoxication of her beauty, but if she left now, he'd feel rather bereft and go back to being morose.

"Perhaps I could escort you around and show you the other public areas of the club, then guide you back to your friends, if that is what you so wish. If they are worried, then I would like to assure them that you have been in good hands." His look was very, very expectant.

It wasn't that she was unfamiliar with aggressive men. What she was rarely exposed to, though, was a man who remained eloquent with his words while in her presence, and she was quickly learning that she had never bothered to learn how to defend herself. Goodness, the moment Fleur met one she married him, didn't she? She felt very lucky for Guilian's attention, but the unstable ground shook her, and she wanted to go...

...but that look on his face...

She returned to speaking French, at least. "Guiliano, my apologies for the outburst, I would hate to insult you, it's just that..." Ugh. There seemed to come a pivotal time in every meeting with a new male that she had to come clean. "I am part-Veela, if you have not noticed, and it makes me quite attractive. Oh, oh, I promise I do not mean that in a selfish way- just look at the way you are acting and you will understand what I mean!" She sighed. Explaining herself always felt like losing some game.

Suddenly, even though the Montague boy was the one doing the pressuring, Gabrielle ended up feeling guilty. She had deceived another person, and owed him something small, at least. "So be it," she said. "You can show me all the best things, if that is what will fuel your smile." Keeping people happy was what she truthfully wanted. "My friends can wait for at least a short while. I have a portkey."

She would probably come to regret revealing this fact, because it only gave Guiliano one more excuse to keep her. The air around him seemed heavy again, almost possessing its own voice. So strange... what did it mean?

Guilian was worried that their meeting would be far too brief, and something told him that he truly would have lost more than an opportunity to hear her voice if he just let her leave so suddenly.

But just as quickly, she was apologising to him. When she revealed she was part Veela, it all suddenly made sense. The way he had been insatiably drawn to her; the way she had truly helped him completely forget all that worried him. Even the dark magic that whispered to him had been silenced for a while. Had it too been in her thrall?

Nodding in understanding, he didn't let his smile subside. "That would explain why all my worries seemed to have fled since I noticed you in the room. You do not need to apologise. It seemed that it was just the tonic I needed to pick me up from... unpleasant experiences. You do not need to apologise. No wonder I was stumbling around like an incoherent teen. I am normally far more suave."

Standing, he took his glass of champagne, and offered Gabrielle his arm. "Well wandering around with you on my arm would be the real reason for the smile. In spite of what you might think, there are a few patrons who do have less innocent intentions."

At the mention of the portkey, he nodded. "Ah well, that is wise, your safety is very important."

"So, do you know any languages other than French and English?" he asked as they made their way out of the bar and towards the main casino rooms. "This is a casino, and so why not visit first the rooms where fortunes are made and broken? Do you like games of chance?" His last statement could have been laden with so much innuendo, but he tried to cut back, as much as he could. It was a little difficult, but he was trying.

Though she felt considerably better, now Gabrielle had something totally new to fret about. Whereas before she felt she was leading him on, now she was going to wonder all night whether or not he was just keeping her there for his own mental health. She was glad to help, but as he said he was usually even MORE suave, she worried a bit about what she was in for.

Either that, or she was very, very excited. One of the two.

"I have much to learn in this life, Guiliano," she said, taking his arm, "but I am not so foolish to believe that nobody will hurt me." The girl had seen her share of threats, related to both love and war.

As they walked, she breathed more easily, allowing herself to enjoy the fact that she was being escorted by someone rich, handsome, and seemingly intelligent. Despite the strange aura about him and his bizarre powers of persuasion, there was much to be said for the simple facts. "I am fluent in no others, but my parents were adamant about raising cultured girls. I can survive in a few other romantic languages, but as you can tell from my English, I am not the quickest to perfection."

There was a funny little twinkle in Guilian's eye when he mentioned the games, and Gabrielle got the feeling that gambling was something he enjoyed. "I have good luck," she said, foolishly daring to inject the smallest bit of tempting flirtation in her voice. She could not resist trying to win back control of the conversation.

"True, the current climate is not peaceful." He knew that for a fact. "But there is no need to invite danger when it can be repelled." He knew many, many witches were keen to be independent, but he didn't think any woman would ever knock back genuine chivalry.

He laughed warmly at her comments. "Ahh, but English is the hardest of them all to learn. All those exceptions to the rules. I'm sure you would probably find that Italian would be far easier on the palate. It is also a very musical language when spoken." He brought the conversation back to her joy of music.

They entered the hall for the general Casino games were held. "This is where those who like to occasionally gamble like to try their luck at the classic games." He showed her the roulette wheels, the card tables where many different games were taking place, and the games with dice.

"The use of magic is forbidden in here - there are spells that prevent anything that could remotely change the random chance that comes up."

When she said she had good luck, he raised an eyebrow. They were standing before a roulette wheel, where one punter had only recently vacated after losing all his chips. "Perhaps then, you would indulge me with a spin of the wheel?"

Pulling a few chips out of his pocket he lead her to the table, smiling at the croupier. He gambled only occasionally here, often preferring the high stakes rooms upstairs. That's where the real gambling and games of strategy took place. "Perhaps you would like to choose which number to place my bet?"

Guilian had found her weak spot. Ever since being rescued at the Triwizard Tournament by Harry Potter, Gabrielle loved heroism. "I think the two of us together equal a force to be reckoned with," she said, fighting the fact that her legs felt something like jelly. She had yet to identify his dark magic, and that he thus did not need the petite blonde for safety- even in the loosest definition.

"Perhaps you could teach me more Italian than I currently grasp," she said unconsciously. The response came as a sort of reflex for admirers- not Gulian specifically. She'd gotten the offer before. He had to go and throw in the music reference, though, and again she was struck. Suddenly the part-Veela was considering the tutor possibility for real.

Antonin had already explained the magical restrictions, but she nodded politely. Guilian was standing rather close to her at the roulette wheel, and she decided to see just how willing he was to listen to her.

Not breaking eye contact with him, and thus not looking at the wheel as she chose, either, she pointed blindly at the numbers. "Zat one," she smiled softly, batting her eyelashes. Just because he knew what she was now did not make him entirely immune. She locked her gaze into his, still pointing, still not seeing what she had chosen. Maybe she was just feeling too lucky to even look, hmm?

Guilian allowed himself a very warm laugh. What was it about her that made all the darkness just go away? Being around her felt... as if the past couple of months could be almost entirely forgotten. Or at least the numbness that came with the wielding of dark magic had lessened.

But the sense of darkness within seemed to... resonate with something when she was around. Now that she mentioned she was part Veela, his history of 'dark' magical creatures was coming back to him. Could it sense that somewhere in her core, she held a touch of dark? It seemed hard to believe, but he could not think of anything else in the few moments his mind pondered the thought. "A formidable force, indeed. Anyone should know better than to cross anyone even with the tiniest drop of Veela blood."

Guilian couldn't help the smirk that formed on his lips at her words. "That would imply that perhaps I could call on you again, if that is what you would wish." He knew the proper rules of courtship, and knew that if he wanted to spend more time with her, he would need to ask her permission. He was not too far gone down the dark path to forget such things.

He could sense her warmth as he stood close to her as they stood by the table. Her scent was also intoxicating, and he had to compose himself as she stared deeply into his eyes as she blindly pointed to the numbers on the felt.

Pulling out the chips, he dared to keep her gaze, turning only to place them on the number she chose before the croupier announced there were no more bets. It was hard to try and pull his gaze away, but as his hand brushed along her elbow, they heard the ball as it was released into the roulette wheel.

Somehow, he just knew that their luck was ripe. The congratulations when the croupier called out their number, and added a generous increase to his chips made his smile warm. Taking their winnings, he handed half of them to Gabrielle. "It seems luck is a lady tonight. Take it, this is yours."

While Gabrielle had been trying desperately to change her former ways, her actions in the Casino were becoming quickly reflective of the young Delacour that had lived in France. She took amusement from playing with boys and having them do her bidding. Try as she might to kill the flaw, she was grinning from ear to ear as Guilian bet on her blind choice.

There was a very brief moment where the air around them became completely still as she felt his touch. Whatever power that resided within him was bearing down upon her through just a light brush, and she found herself surprised that she could still breathe. Again she wondered if something was wrong...

...but the moment she heard her their number, the part-Veela lost her adult composure and squealed, jumping up and down rapidly. She failed to notice how the very animal noise affected those around her, as men and women alike winced but tried to stay polite. With a shining smile, Gabbi snatched the chips from Guilian's giving hands as if they were a child's candy. "Merci~!" she laughed gleefully, before quickly clearing her throat and composing herself. "I told you, did I not?"

She looked around, already bored of roulette despite the fact that she seemed to have a knack for it. Already forgetting the mystery and intimidation that swam about her companion, she grabbed his hand, asking, "What now?!"

Somehow, Guilian just knew that their number was going to come up, and he did have to smile and laugh at her honest excitement over a win. She was truly a joyous sight like this, and he felt the pull, but now knowing that had to partly be the power of the Veela. Still, she was beautiful, and he knew that even without the Veela in her, she would be just as beautiful.

Chuckling warmly at her enthusiasm, he found she was now excited to play more, and grabbed his hand. "Ahh, one win and you're a hardened gambler." He looked around the room.

Letting his hand squeeze hers gently, he looked into the joy on her face. "Do we want another game of chance, or shall we move on to somewhere else; leave whilst we are still winners?" There were plenty of places to see - a true evening's entertainment, even without going anywhere private.

Something told him not to be too pushy - to take things slowly with Gabrielle. He didn't know why, but in such a short time she turned his night around for the better, and he didn't want that to end too soon.

"Card games, or dice games, or perhaps you'd like to take some air on the balcony?" Guilian left the choices entirely up to her. Right now, just being in her company was all he wanted.

"Oui, Guiliano," she giggled. "You had better stop me before I develop a world-crushing gambling problem!" Gabrielle briefly wondered if maybe she *could* develop a world-crushing gambling problem, but concluded that she was too pretty.

As Guilian looked at her, she felt examined- like he was pulling more out of her reactions and presence than the average, lust-driven boy. Maybe he needed somebody...

"Perhaps cards or..." the girl had only begun making a suggestion when something else more interesting popped into her head. "Guiliano, can you do card tricks?" It was as if Gabbi's mind was a light switch, blinking right into something else. "My grandfather did many absurd and wonderful things to impress my Veela grandmother, including Muggle parlor amusements like that." She paused, worried that Guilian did not care to hear such a mundane story. "Ehm... Not very interesting when you can do real magic, I suppose." She liked them, anyway.

Her giggle fuelled his own warm and rich laugh. "Oh Gabrielle, if only all gamblers were more responsible like you - quitting when they are ahead. Although I suppose someone rich and beautiful does need one little vice, now and then."

He heard her mention cards, then stop. When she spoke of card tricks, he looked confused. But she seemed to have sparkled some sort of memory - something that made her face light up even more. It was a fascinating insight into who she was - something more than just another beautiful woman.

But as she paused, he stopped. "What, you mean like this?" He put his hand to flick a curl that dared to escape errantly from behind her ear, only to produce another of the gambling chips. Holding a smirk, he shook his head. "I think everyone's grandfather had someone who did those tricks for us." He remembered his own Nonna, or was it some great aunt, who used to do something similar?

He handed her the chip and glanced at the other tables. "Perhaps we could take a little air, and tell me more about these card tricks." They stood near a door that lead to a balcony, and a stunning view over the busy streets of London. It was a good enough reason to take a break, and he was enamoured by the fact she seemed so innocent, yet lurking under the surface...

Gabrielle giggled without reserve when Guilian performed a perfect example of what she had been talking about. Taking the chip from his hand, she flicked her wrist and made it disappear again. She smiled for a moment, proud of herself... until the small circle hit the floor with a distinct click, having fallen from its hidden place in her dress. The girl's cheeks turned a bit pink as she said, "I guess I need practice."

The suggestion of going outside was a bit off-putting, as the games were fun and the people had a great energy. Winning chips was not half bad either. Still, with the way he looked at her, Gabrielle could tell that some part of him needed her to listen. She allowed the door to be opened, and the blonde had to admit that the view was incredible.

Smiling on the balcony, she continued chattering as if they had not just walked into an incredibly romantic scene. "Well, like I said, my grandmother was fully Veela- there was not human in her. Thus, humans did little that kept her attention, let alone entertained her..."

Guilian's face showed genuine mirth when Gabrielle made the chip disappear again, only to have it fall to the floor. He simply raised an eyebrow when she talked about practice. Before she could bend to pick it up, he summoned it wandlessly, the chip slowly rising and levitating until he grabbed it in the palm of his hand.

He just needed a little quiet time and space, he was feeling somewhat greedy, and he no longer wanted to share Gabrielle's presence with everyone else in the room. Just as they headed out, he took two glasses of champagne from the waiter who just happened to appear as he left (they thought of everything in this casino).

It was truly a beautiful summer night - clear skies, and the perfect romantic setting to be with any beautiful woman. Her presence seemed to be washing away all the dark thoughts - the worries and pain that had been consuming him for weeks now. He wanted to hang onto that for a while longer.

"But of course they would try their very best, wouldn't they? What was it about your grandfather that made her choose him? What quality did she see in him over other mere men?"

She watched, impressed with his wandless magic, as Gabrielle could do no such thing. Her wand was still very necessary; perhaps he could teach her... along with the languages.

Taking a glass of champagne from him, she sipped during his question. "I do not know everything about my anscestors, as my parents were not entirely interested in silly love stories, but I think the answer was... determination? A Veela does not think like a human does; there is far less remorse and attachment... and my grandfather just wouldn't go away." She pondered for a moment, thinking of Fleur, and continued. "Honestly though, I'd rather believe she finally fell in love with someone- against the odds, you know? My sister married Bill after years and years of toying with people at Beauxbatons and even Hogwarts. Yes, the Weasley was very determined, but also he is brave and just outright loves her very very much! He would fight off the entire world for her, like a... like a crazy red-headed knight!" She giggled, before becoming serious. My Fleur realized his goodness, and became um... more human?"

She was glad to have explained in her more elaborate French. A strange look came across her face. It was uncomfortable and yet enlightening to talk about her sister, and thus herself, as abnormal. Gabrielle reached for the spot on her shoulder where she knew her hidden certification code to be- the one she had to get from Antonin as a promise to society of no darkness. A pale finger traced its invisible line, and she sighed, forgetting for a moment that Guilian was there. Umbridge was hurting people terribly who did not have connections like hers...

Guilian saw that his magic had impressed her, and he felt a wash of pride come over him. He knew a part of him was simply wanting to show off for her and for the Veela within, but he would have wanted to be chivalrous anyway.

He listened in fascination. Although as he watched her, he began to see that the qualities that were most desired by a Veela woman were determination and perseverance. Of course, every man would automatically try to just impress her - he had to show he was willing to go the distance.

Why his mind was suddenly thinking of such things - of plans to woo this woman - of the best way to get himself into her affections - he had no idea. Normally by this stage, he was merely thinking of ways to just get a woman up to his room for the evening.

Usually his interest lay in just the conquest. Ever since he'd had his heart broken by Opal, he'd only been interested in what he could take from a woman for one night. Even at the beginning of this evening, that had been his intention. But spending time with her, being with her and just feeling so much lighter for her presence...

He shook himself out of his thoughts. "So a man with determined patience, who is willing to love and fight to protect, and willing to lay down his life for her? That's the sort of man that can capture a Veela heart?" Guilian really was a romantic at heart. He'd always been such, even if that had seemed like a lifetime ago. "It sounds like you just need to meet your knight in shining armour." He gave her a bit of a challenging smirk.

She was suddenly looking out over the view, her hand to her shoulder as she was lost in her thoughts. He would have loved to know more about what she was thinking - what made her seem so whistful and for just a moment, slightly sad, and the urge to kiss her was becoming harder and harder to resist.

He came in close, his voice carrying across her ear. "So are you still waiting for your knight in shining armour to sweep you off your feet?"

His queries into the Veela heart were lofty, and even though she was still somewhat naive, Gabrielle did not entirely miss what Guilian was looking for. "You make it sound very admirable, but a 'Veela heart' as you say- one that is entirely Veela- is won more by servitude. Determination, as I said, but not always the good kind." It sounded shameful when put into words, especially given that Gabrielle occasionally indulged herself just the same. "Like I said, though, I hope that maybe my grandfather brought something more intimate out of my Veela grandmother, otherwise she sounds more than a bit cruel!" Gabrielle did not choose to elaborate further, as she knew full well that her grandfather lost many of his friends and opportunities over his dedicated obsession.

Feeling that both her reputation and her sister's were on the line, Gabrielle kept talking, trying to straighten the matter out. "The love, the protection, the care... that comes from our human portion, which, I must remind you, is larger than the Veela one." She was, for once, taking her humanism as a point of pride instead of her Veela beauty. This remembrance made her feel more comforted about Umbridge's decree. The toad woman would surely be proven wrong about those with allegedly dark blood, at least when confronted with people like the Delacours. Gabrielle returned to smiling brightly.

"Moi?" Guilian putting this story in terms of her desires should have been predicted, but Gabrielle was blindsided nonetheless. Of course he wanted to know about her wants; they all did. It was almost frustrating to realize the same old fact, because the conversation had been so real and warm... "Since the day Harry Potter pulled me from the merpeople, I knew that that sort of man was out there, waiting for me. Harry was not it, of course- it was a child's crush- but those people exist... and they are wonderful." When the sentence had begun, Gabrielle was sure she was going to put Guilian in his place, but instead, she was sighing dreamily, proving his point.

Positively glowing, she exclaimed in a voice much too loud for his closeness, "Many have tried to sweep me off my feet for the wrong reasons, Guiliano, but yes. I, Gabrielle Delacour, am waiting for that with all of my heart!"

Guilian sensed that Gabrielle seemed a little ashamed of her heritage. At least from her words. "Your Grandmere must have been a very special woman, Veela or no." He got the sense she didn't want to speak more about them, and he left it at that.

"You don't need to defend yourself to me, Gabrielle. I'm certainly not doubting that you are certainly a woman. A very human woman indeed."

He listened as she spoke of being pulled out of the water from the Tri-Wizard tournament. He remembered that, being only a third year himself. "Every girl needs to believe in a hero, just like some men like to rescue damsels in distress."

Letting out his own sigh, he recalled his own crush. Verity. His father's news was truly not so surprising, but even though he knew he would have made a far better husband for Ver than Damian, he knew that chasing that dream now was a folly. And after Opal broke his heart, he never dared to think he could open his heart to love again.

It must have been her mention of heart that made his flutter just a little more. That and the fact he felt drawn to her, the darkness drowned out of his hearing and his vision for just a short while. He was such a romanticist himself, he understood what she was saying.

He raised his glass to her in a toast. "Well then, Gabrielle Delacour, I do hope that your heart finds your prince - a man with determination and perseverance who loves you for more than just your beauty."

Knowing she was part Veela meant he logically knew that some of what he was feeling must have been her natural pull to him. But he felt something a little deeper. Perhaps it was just the fact that she'd made him forget his problems for just a while.

After swallowing a sip of his champagne, he dared to kiss the back of her hand, and he had no control over the words that escaped his lips. "Of course, I'd like the opportunity to perhaps get to know you a little better, Madamoiselle Delacour. May I have your permission to call on you again, to perhaps invite you for dinner, and dancing? I am still very interested in hearing you sing."

His face held an expectant look, but if she declined, he at least had proven himself a gentleman, and had not crossed any boundaries. He might be a Montague in name, and only one step away from his father disinheriting him, but he would not disgrace his family name in such a way.

Had he just formally asked if he could court her? He'd only ever done that for Opal, and he'd sworn to himself he would not do that again. Merlin!

She tilted her head, looking at Guilian and wondering if he'd actually ever saved any damsels in distress. Gabrielle was willing to believe him, but doubted the Montague had done anything like Harry Potter or Jander Mulboon had done for her. ...Then again, was it fair to even compare?

Surprised to hear another toast, she raised her glass abruptly, wanting to keep up. Taking another sip, she decided she could have no more after the second serving. She would hate to do something stupid and then have Morag hear about it. In fact, the blonde was probably already in trouble... "Merci," she smiled, "A lovely wish." It was lovely indeed, and Gabrielle could at least enjoy it for now.

As usual, the kiss on the hand did not surprise her; it was something many men tried. The succeeding words provided little shock, either, but she certainly didn't mind them from such a gorgeous individual. Her thoughts trailed to Jander, and how he had disappeared again just after he had returned to her the entire world. They then tumbled to Lee Jordan, and how she forced him to go home and sleep before she accepted his help with her singing career. Allowing men their space to breathe after the sometimes-suffocating meets with her was the kind thing to do. Really, Gabrielle should have left Guilian to himself for the rest of the night, given the Veela influence AND given the champagne. Instead, just as she had allowed him to gamble his money, she allowed him more. Of course, the blonde did not notice the immediate regret that had shot into his mind.

"I would like that very much, Guiliano." She was sure to give him a very pretty and thankful look through her lashes. "I am leaving London within the week, though, and do not know how to find you outside of this!" She was genuinely disappointed.

Guilian would have given all to be a Legilimens at this moment - to know what was going through her mind as she thanked him.

It seemed an eternity before she answered (at least it felt that way to him). His smile widened when she agreed, but then said she was leaving London at the end of the week. "Will you still permit me to hear you sing?" He would like that very much.

But as he was about to tell her that he was from Italy, and to let her know of his home - he realised he really didn't have a home, not if his father had been good on his promise. He knew the extent of Don's temper. He'd already be changing the wards on the Montague home, if he hadn't done so already.

"My business is keeping me in the UK for the time being. I have taken rooms here at the Casino, although if I need to stay for much longer, I might have to go and look for a place in Hogsmeade, perhaps." He probably should find somewhere a little more solid, and a home in Hogsmeade could be an investment.

Or he could probably even ask Damian if he could use their house. Right, that would most likely go down very well. "But alas, after you leave London, I do not know how to find you outside of this either." He smirked, hoping to learn more about her, about where she lived.

"I will be recording at Soho Studios before I go, and I will be sure to send you the results." Gabrielle paused, quickly realizing that the gift was probably not entirely what he wanted. Brushing a strand of hair behind her shoulder, she added, "...and of course you can get a real-life taste, too, since I will apparently be seeing you again!" The girl silently promised herself to give Guilian her recordings anyway, as good advertisement was good advertisement.

Maybe it was the fact that she rarely consumed alcohol and was already finishing a second glass of champagne, but the idea of seeing one of the Casino's rooms was tempting. Taking a deep breath and remembering her sister's good example, Gabrielle stayed behaved. She would go back to Antonin and Morag, she would, she would.

The word 'Hogsmeade' definitely made her smile widen. It did not seem like a place for someone as well-off as him to live, though. Then again, the Delacours were currently residing there, weren't they?

"Oh!" She felt rather ashamed for having complained when he was equally clueless. "Of course! I live with my Fleur in Hogsmeade, on 7 Bilius Way! It is a very nice place, though small for me, and her entire family lives there. You would like the children!" The blonde again noted Guilian's closeness. "...I mean, if you like children in general. If you don't like children, you'd probably dislike Charlotte and Lucas, but they are just the sweetest and if so obviously you do..." Gabrielle realized she had entered a babbling spell and bit her bottom lip. A small giggle hatched through her teeth, and for a moment all she could do was look in her companion's eyes.

Ungracefully returning to the subject at hand, she managed to say something entirely innocent that would only fuel him. "I tend to feel like quite the intruder there, as she has her own life and does not need to watch over mine. Perhaps we will both be looking for houses at the same time! That would... that would be fun!"

Guilian was truly hoping for an invitation to come and hear her sing, not just the results of the recording, but his disappointment waned when she said she could hear him when they met again. Of course it was rude to just invite himself along, and he quelled his own enthusiasm. Ahh, that sounds wonderful. I mean, I would certainly not want to distract you on such an important occasion.

It was a very surprising revelation to hear that she lived in Hogsmeade. He took a mental note of the address, hoping to send along some flowers, or a gift or two in congratulations after her recording.

"Oh I do love children." Her smile was infectious, as was her enthusiasm. "I have a much younger sister - she is eight - and she's a darling." Although will she still think the same of me now that father has basically banished me? He did miss Lucrezia, but keeping away was for the best. He just wished Don could have left it at that. "Her name is Lucrezia, and I don't get to see her often enough. She's with my parents in Italy."

Her last words did make him raise an eyebrow, and the obvious comment about looking to move into the same house was begging to be said on the end of his lips. But he managed to refrain just in time, not letting himself look like a complete tosser. Well if you are in need of any assistance in finding a place, then perhaps we could pool our resources to find the best places Hogsmeade has to offer. I do a lot of work negotiating contracts. It's what I do."

He realised for all their conversation, he'd really not told her what business he was in. Well, apart from being a Death Eater. "I help translate contracts, and work through negotiation. I would hate to think anyone would take advantage of you. Even you admitted your English was not perfect. Unscrupulous people can write contracts in such ways you truly don't realise it's a bad deal until it's far too late." It was a genuine offer to help, and he knew how sneaky some estate agents could be.

"So is that a date?" He asked with a hint of a smirk?

She nodded politely, holding back a laugh. In a situation like the one that was sure to arise at Soho Studios, Guilian's 'distraction' was not the one to worry about. Gabrielle left the matter at that.

Her hands clasped together in delight when told of Lucrezia. "She sounds precious, and I wish she were in my classes so that I could meet her!" Italy sounded equally enthralling. "Italy? You did not mention that before. I assume your parents live somewhere spectacular, so... why would you move to Hogsmeade? You are so very lucky!" Deciding to be fair, Gabrielle injected her own reason. "Me, I just wanted to be away from my parents. I am not a baby!" The way she crossed her arms, though, along with the childish scowl on her face, perhaps suggested otherwise.

Gabrielle Delacour was bright, but never claimed to be the smartest person she knew. Hearing Guilian simply speak of his occupation made her feel all the more that she needed his help. If she did not even understand what he did for a living, how could she secure a contract without him? It pained her to believe that people would take advantage of her as he said they would. "I did not know it could be that bad," the blonde answered, easily convinced.

She raised her eyebrows, noting the mischief in Guilian's expression. "Not sure," Gabrielle returned the look. "Do contract negotiators often include dates in the fine print?"

"Oh Lucrezia would love you, I just know it. She loves to be a lady, and she does so like to meet other ladies as she tries to emulate them." It always made him laugh to see her copy the ladies that she met. She was going to be a mankiller when she was a woman, but for now, she was still his little adorable sister. "I'm sure your niece and nephew try to do the same for those they admire?"

He had to do a little quick thinking as she started to talk about Italy and his family. "They do. I guess I didn't mention it as I've only just left home myself - trying to make my own way in the world."

"But business is keeping me here for quite some time. It's hard to build my own little business empire when my father's shadow looms so large back home. I need to make a name for myself here. Until then, the businesses back home won't ever see me as anything but my father's son."
It was a true assessment of things, and he really didn't have to live under the Montague banner to be his own man. He could see now that this his father's 'punishments' were only going to help him.

At her emphatic words about being the baby, he smiled. "Parents can be a little overprotective sometimes, can't they?"

He must have managed to clinch the deal with his talk of contracts. "Oh, not everyone is unscrupulous, but it never hurts to have someone read the fine print, and ensure you are getting the best deal."

She was following his lead admirably, and he let his hand slide along to her elbow. He'd like to do a hell of a lot more than that, but whatever was drawing him to her was telling him that perhaps he should wait for her to approve any bold move he might want to make. "Only when they wish to ensure that they don't lose out on the deal to someone else."

A cool breeze came in, catching her hair and he was momentarily mesmerised. "So, shall we head back inside and see if lady luck is still with us at the card tables, or do you need to go and meet with your friends?"

The part-Veela giggled sheepishly, realizing what a strong influence their Weasley father had had on Fleur's children. "Lucas and Charlotte prefer to emulate fairies. And pirates. And, ehm... fairy pirates." She imagined some sort of ugly creature with a hook for a hand and petite wings, but quickly straightened her train of thought. "Pirates seem to be the popular trend amongst the children of Hogsmeade!"

"Ah, magnifique!" she smiled, happy to have someone equally enthusiastic about making their own destiny. She felt a special connection to Guilian as he explained his desire for independence.

While Guilian's help with languages seemed like a valuable asset, Gabrielle would not feel talked down to. "I think I manage to get admirable deals simply by being what I am," she said with a proud tone that bordered on arrogance. After a moment of suspense, she winked, "Help me if you must!"

Her voice became airy as his hand met her pale skin. "I see. I suppose you would know that better than most." His touch was not unwelcome, as their conversation had found many common bonds between them. Cautiously (but not ashamed), she stepped closer, allowing her shoulder and upper arm to be against his chest. She liked the companionship, and Guilian seemed surprisingly able to control himself. Still, she would watch his reactions closely in case of any spur-of-the-moment loss of composure.

Standing silently, she caught him staring. For once, Gabrielle did not dismiss the attention as just another look from just another boy, because this one had expressed several times now their sameness. He was setting out on his own from his family, and had a sadness about him that she felt she could fix with her own, similar experiences.

"Ehm... actually... I think I would like to stay out here a bit longer," she said, "because I want you to share something with me. Before, when we first saw each other, you seemed upset, and now you do not. I do not mean to be rude, I promise, I have just come to care about your well-being through our talk, and maybe it is too much, and I only mean to-" she stopped rambling abruptly.

"What was haunting you so?"

"Children can be so very imaginative. Sometimes I wonder if growing up is truly worth it." He looked back at his own carefree childhood and wondered for a moment if he could ever capture something like that again. A wistful sigh escaped his lips.

When she put it like that, he had to concede that she probably could get herself a very good deal. "I have no doubt that between us, we could hammer out a deal that would be a win for everyone." He was good and confident, and he certainly would have no hesitation in offering up his services.

He allowed a soft laugh to escape his lips at her words. He didn't fail to notice how she let more of her soft skin lean closer against his body. The darkness inside was crooning - as if it were being stroked or petted by being in her presence. "I do believe a gentleman needs a chance to prove his determination and perseverance."

His eyes were affixed on hers, and to be perfectly honest, he truly didn't think he would have noticed a band of aurors and death eaters if they started to fight all around him. She was stunning, and not just her beauty. The longer he stayed talking, the more he realised she was charming, intelligent and quite self-determined. Could anyone truly see all that lay underneath her beauty?

When she wanted to stay outside, he raised an eyebrow. But she was more astute than he'd given her credit for, and he knew that to lie to her would be wrong. But would the complete truth drive her away and he'd never see her again?

He stopped her rambling, running a hand through his own hair. "No, no, it's all right. I have to admit the longer I am in your presence, the better I am feeling." He stopped for a moment, and looked into her eyes. "My father was here earlier today, and he is displeased that I do not come home. He does not have the faith that I know what I am doing, and that I have to do this on my own." It was the truth, from a certain point of view.

But then he didn't know why, but he felt the need to share more. Much more. "My father is quick to anger, and he has basically cut me off from the family until such time as I see sense, and will return with my tail between my legs, begging him for his forgiveness." Shaking his head, he looked away and sighed.

As he looked back to her, he gave a little smile. "But us Montagues are all far too proud to ever do that, and when Father sees what a success I will be, he will be the one who will have to admit that he was wrong."

"Thank you, Gabrielle, for helping me to forget my worries. You are truly magical.

She smiled at Guilian, feeling as if each thing he said opened up some new door about his personality. He was acting suave and adult, but really, had a child-like side similar to Gabrielle's. She liked it, as it showed both playfulness and vulnerability.

Her tone, even in French, became staunch. "Well, your father needs to understand that you are going to be who you want to be. There is nothing wrong with wishing success and happiness for yourself! It is not right that he made you feel sad over it!!" Guilian seemed to have very heavy-handed parents. Money did tend to make people stuffy, even selfish; her own ancestors were fine examples. In her large blue eyes settled pity.

She was glad to see him return his gaze to her, where he appeared happier. "I am sure that your business will be wonderful, and he will see it and be so proud of you!" Of course, Gabrielle was thinking in terms of contracts and negotiations and such- nothing of the dark magic that secretly resided in Guilian Montague. "I will gladly be a very vocal client, telling everyone about the effectiveness of your services!" She smiled, determined to help, and missing entirely how many ways her statement could be taken.

The blonde was honored to be thanked in such a kind way. "Merci, Gulie," she said, pulling the nickname out of nowhere. It sounded like a girl's name, and Gabrielle giggled brightly, not hesitating to put her small arms around his waist. She gave him an encouraging squeeze. "I am most glad to have helped!" She stayed there for a moment before adding, "As for life's darknesses... I guess be strong, surround yourself with the right people, and do not look back."

In the context of Guilian, she had no idea how deeply she was truly speaking.

Guilian had a vision of Gabrielle standing up to his father, and for just a moment he almost laughed. Oh that would be a priceless encounter, although he realised all too soon that an encounter like that wasn't likely to happen any time soon. "I am sure that you would be a formidable opponent for my father, should you ever perchance, to meet him."

But with each word, she was making the smile on his face want to stay there, and he almost looked away in embarrassment. "Oh well, how about we wait and see, although I am sure that I will be the one singing your praises for the music you will make."

Her diminutive use of his name did make him chuckle, and the feel of her hands around his waist was more than he'd dreamed of. "You are indeed a breath of fresh air, Gabrielle."

But the intoxicating combination of how close she was, the hands around his waist and the words where she was telling him to be strong was almost too much. His hand cupped her chin, and he let his tongue whet his lower lip.

"I don't want to look back," he admitted frankly, his words whispered. "I'm only looking forward, and right now I'd like to steal a kiss, if I may be so bold." His lips hovered close to hers, but he wasn't going to ruin this by kissing her against her will. "I'd like something to remind me that this hasn't all just been a wonderfully pleasant dream."

He wanted to look forward to so much more, and even as he felt the darkness in him resonate with something in her presence, he just knew that pursuing her was going to be something far more dangerous than he'd ever done before.

Her heart quickened as he requested a kiss. Gabrielle had assumed that, like all men, Guilian would eventually break and make some foolish choice. He would kiss her and then beg to take her home and continue to embarrass himself in a flurry of Veela-ispired stupidity.

...Guilian Montague appeared different, though. He had moved slowly through the evening, and seemed to have genuine connections to Gabrielle and her trials. She felt they understood each other, at least more than resulted from the average male encounter with her, and she wanted to believe she had found something. Nothing pleased Gabrielle more than to make others happy, and something about Guiliano was brightening by the minute. It had been her doing, and now he was asking her to make it truly real for him. It was not said aloud, but Gabrielle wanted proof too. More than anything, she wanted proof that she could be cherished for more than her Veela beauty (as fun as it could be), and so...

Her heavy black lashes closed over her eyes like folding butterfly wings, and she tilted herself upward to breathe his air. Hesitating for only a moment to smile against his lips, she let her mouth gently meet his, kissing Guilian with a delicacy that matched the glow constantly surrounding her.

If Guilian had ever thought he'd truly kissed, or been kissed by a woman, then it was nothing compared to what he was doing right now. When her lips first met his, he felt something more than just the connection of lips.

She tasted like everything he'd ever imagined, the softness of her kiss brushing against his sparking more than just the usual desire he felt in such a connection.

His lips pressed just a little more firmly, as he let his tongue graze across her lower lip, daring her boldly to want a little more. But as his hands cupped her face, he knew that this fleeting moment was all he was going to get until the next time they met.

In the space of a few short hours, he'd lost his whole world, but now, right here, he felt as if there was hope for the future, and that was all the hope he needed to keep going.

With far too much reluctance, he broke away, his hands still cupping her face, his eyes still not willing to break the contact as well. He wasn't sure his voice was up to talking, but he made a valiant effort at forming words. "Well, that will certainly remind me of this night. Thank you, Gabrielle. Thank you for everything."

Gabrielle had resisted indulgence in male attention for a very long time. She had promised to not hurt anybody's feelings or lead anyone on after leaving France, and she had almost forgotten what it was like when a part-Veela girl kissed a very normal man. Guilian's reaction was thrilling; he seemed lost in bliss. Equally thrilling for the girl, though, was simply being kissed, and she had to force herself to pull away instead of tasting more deeply.

The depth of his gratitude surprised her. Gabbi knew herself to be warm and welcoming, but Guilian sounded as if the very foundations of his life had changed! The same guilt as always set in, and the girl assumed that her Veela magnetism had dragged him too far. "You are most welcome," she said politely, though feeling suddenly ashamed. It was time for her to return to Antonin and Morag, and for another man to feel foolish about what he had done in her presence.

"My companions are surely looking for me," she said, feeling her cheeks flush. Hopefully he would not hate her later, because kissing him was everything she had needed. She did not mention the prospect of seeing him again, because as much as she wanted to, Gabrielle was sure she probably wouldn't. That's usually how things went. The part-Veela was not a dark creature like Umbridge said, but she certainly did not lead an entirely fair, human life.

"Bonsoir, Gulie- ehm, Guiliano!" Walking briskly, she left the balcony in favor of the Casino's interior.

Guilian knew that if she were as innocent and pure as she was beautiful, there would be a moment when this night would soon end.

Alas, it came, and as she spoke of her friends, he saw the rise of colour in her cheeks. "Of course, you must." He nodded graciously, stepping back and letting her leave, as reluctant as he was for that.

She was already leaving by the time his voice came to him, a smile for the diminutive of his name she had coined. "Bonsoir, Mademoiselle Gabrielle." His smile for her was warm, and he knew that things were never going to be the same again.

Standing there for the longest time, he felt something inside that was fluttering out of sync with his heartbeat, and he knew that somehow, some way, he was gong to prove to her that he wanted her for more than just her beauty. Anyone who could suppress the darkness like that was the sort of witch he was truly intent on seeing again.

Come hell, or high water. One way or another, he was going to make her his.
