Prior to Elia's death, Toria had made at least semi-frequent appearances to court, when she wasn't kept busy with her music lessons and personal intrigues. Lately, however, she'd become reclusive, taking her meals in her room when permitted. The song she was composing gave her a sense of purpose, and she didn't trust her own judgment for anything other than music and basic social graces just yet. She wasn't ready to detach herself from her emotions, and she wasn't in the mood to endure court banter and pretend she was interested in gossip. Fortunately, working on something that had been a personal request from the king was a perfectly valid reason to be busier than normal. One could scarcely blame her if she wanted to focus on that. Upset as she was, and as doubtful of her judgment she was (emotions were something to be wary of, after all), she had considered her options.
It was strange, but the most challenging part of this was finding the right words. She had a main melody line worked out that could be cheerful and lively or beautiful and sorrowful depending on how it was played, and had begun to compose the individual instrumental parts. What she really needed was to get a small group of musicians together to hear the composition. Perhaps the words would come then.
(ooc: Guess what song came on while I was writing this? Winamp is psychic, apparently)
